A Gentle Reminder

1

I listen to several different football podcasts and try to read as much about the beautiful game as possible (while trying not to get fired from my other job that actually pays me money). In the past few days I have noticed a disturbing trend in the coverage of Manchester United's newest player, Dimitar Berbatov.

Who’s the world’s most expensive football player?

1
Mortgage prices are dropping, the credit crunch is hitting us all, and it seems the only things in life that are getting more expensive is food, petrol and footballers. The amount of money spent on individual players these days is ridiculous. Is Cristiano Ronaldo really worth 75 million? If we actually look at what Real Madrid would be getting for their money, it's a name basically. Click to continue reading...

Top 10 transfer flops

35
We all know the situation...your clubs signs a 'gem' of a player that is set to take the season by storm. Excitement builds as the season gets going and your new signing takes to the field. But a lot of the time, the hype is far too much and a 'proven' goalscorer becomes a fat, overrated waste of money. Click to continue reading...

Adios Gomito, Bienvenidos Gallardo

0
You all know that I've been one of Gomez's strongest advocates since starting this blog. I would still to this day pick Gomez over Veron if I had a choice, because Gomez fits our style of play so well, and the team would have had to be restructured in my opinion to work with Veron.

But now it's a different internationally reknowned Argentinian in the conversation, and I'm not sure if I still feel the same way. Click to continue reading...

Offseason Trends

0
It's crazy to think that the MLS season ended less than a month ago.

We've seen so many changes since then it's ridiculous. Carroll, Boswell, and Perkins are all gone. We'll probably be adding Gomez's name to that list by the end of the month. And now the one huge story that we were expecting this offseason has fallen through. Click to continue reading...

DC and Veron Agree To Deal

2
Let the rumors end about Argentine play-maker Juan Sebastian Veron signing with DC United end. Both sides have agreed to a $3-4 million a year deal that will be signed and officially announced next week. Tomorrow Veron's contract with his current club Estudiantes de la Plata will officially run out and he will board a plane [. Click to continue reading...

Veron to United: Next Week

1
CNN/SI.com is reporting that Juan Sebastian Veron will sign a multi-year contract with DC United and be introduced next week. The salary is in the $3-4 million range per year.

Ok, at least we now have a time frame for an announcement. I can't wait for this saga to be done with. Click to continue reading...

The Donovan Rule

0
I've written before that I don't like the idea of Juan Sebastian Veron as a replacement for Christian Gomez. Because Gomez is a proven commodity as the best player on this team. Maybe Veron will be even better, but in my opinion, probably not.

Well all reports are indicating that Veron is close to signing with DC (for something around $15 million? Click to continue reading...

Veron to DC United close?

14
Goal.com is reporting that Juan Sebastian Veron is very close to signing a contract with DC United. His current contract with Estudiantes de la Plata ends this December, which is the end of the Argentine Apertura.

This is nothing new, and I am not holding my breath on this one. I would be very happy to see Veron in a DC United jersey, but until he signs and is introduced, I will reserve full judgement. Click to continue reading...

Veron to DC United on Again?

2
Ives reported Monday that the earlier reports of Juan Sebastian Veron's possible move to DC United next season is closer than ever. Veron would become United's Designated Player Allocation signing if this comes through. Assuming that this happens, what does this do for the club next season? Does anyone have to get the boot if Veron makes his way to the Black & Red? Click to continue reading...

United Close to a DP

17
I know you're thinking, "there is no way you can sign anyone right now, all the deadlines are up, the windows have closed." Well that is all true but rumors are already flying around that DC is close to landing a Designated Player for next season. Word around the league is that DC is close to [...] Click to continue reading...

Weekend Review and News

4
I probably won't get into too much detail over the weekend games. I honestly got to see very little of them due to things going on around me right now. Plus it was a gorgeous weekend that I didn't want to miss out on. Anyways, a few things to discuss that are going on in the [...] Click to continue reading...

Veron to DC United?

6
The guys over at the Sideline View have found some very interesting reports of how DC United might be using their Designated Player Allocation slot. Appartently, Juan Sebastian Veron is in talks to either return to Estudiantes or move north and join DC United.

I don't know if this is anything more than a rumor, but if this is true...holy shit would this strengthen the club. Click to continue reading...
