Sounders win a wild one

1
You have to check out Goal Seattle's report of the game.

Apparently after a 2-1 Sounders win over Montreal in the first leg of the first round of the USL playoffs, the Impact coach went into the stands at Starfire and was getting into it with the fans.

The match was testy too, with a bunch of cards and chippiness. Click to continue reading...

Friday links: Reform here and there, DeRo blogs

1

Left out of the headline: "Touchy in Toronto." But that theme will turn up here as well.

- Crew math: If you're wondering why today's story on Columbus didn't say in so many words that the Crew have clinched a playoff spot, it's because a Columbus Dispatch reader came up with a far-out scenario in which they would, in fact, not advance.

Sounders drop season finale, Cascadia Cup

0
(Rick Morrison for Goal Seattle with the photo, if you couldn't tell)

It was a pretty inconsequential game in the standings, Seattle and Vancouver had already qualified for the playoffs, but the Cascadia Cup was lost.

The Northwest derby might not be around for awhile, so it's sad that the Sounders couldn't hold onto it until then. Click to continue reading...

Ottawa Is Still On The Ass of Vancouver & Montreal

3
The funny thing about the MLS expansion race is that you don't hear a damn thing from anyone for months but then all of a sudden one group says "We're still trying to get a team" and this avalanche "Hey, we're still in this too!" articles comes flying at you.

Portland started off the latest round of madness last week, quickly followed by Vancouver and some overgrown children who carry dolls. Click to continue reading...

Weekend results favor RailHawks

0
According to SportsClubStats.com, the RailHawks chances of making the playoffs jumped from 5% to 15% over the weekend as every USL result fell in our favor. Obviously, the win over the Battery was the biggest result to improve our standing, but a Vancouver-Minnesota draw and the Rhinos' victory over Portland also boosted our chances. Portland and Vancouver make MLS bids

1
Of course, Seattle's rivals couldn't even wait until the Sounders got in the league before crashing the party.

But honestly, both cities have great bids. They both love soccer, which means full stadiums and excitement for all.

Portland, which calls itself Soccer Town U.S.A., is planning on renovating PGE Park to make it a soccer specific stadium. Click to continue reading...

MLS Destiny!

That was supposed to be a play on Manifest Destiny. You know, with the expansion and all?

MLS Rumors got the hot tip on which two cities are looking to be added by 2011:
My sources are adamant that the expansion teams have already been determined. Atlanta missed out. No word on Portland.

The End of an Era (For Now or Forever?)

3
It's over. Dunzo. Outta here like last year. And to put it in the most eloquent way I can think of...it totally sucks. The oldest existent soccer rivalry in the country has gone the way of the dodo and even though I'm not a supporter of either club --at least not officially, but I do have my preferences-- I have to say I'm kinda bummed for a few different reasons. Early lapses crush Carolina (Cary News)

1
Considering the Carolina RailHawks have never won a game when theyve allowed the first goal, spotting league-leading Vancouver a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes Friday made for a disastrous night.
The Whitecaps struck for three goals in the first half and despite playing a man down the entire second half, dealt the RailHawks a 3-2 defeat, extending Carolinas USL First Division winless streak to 13 games. Click to continue reading...

More Football in Canada Eh?

15
According to Martin Rogers' latest MLS expansion update from Yahoo! sports, Montreal and Vancouver seem to be two of the frontrunner's for 2011 MLS expansion, with a lot of focus on the City of Saints.

According to the piece, "Joey Saputo, owner of United Soccer League side Montreal Impact, is determined to secure an MLS license and already has some infrastructure in place. Click to continue reading...

MLS Expansion - Canadian teams the favorites

4
I've enclosed a link to an article from ESPN ad its been widely reported that MLS will add 2 more expansion teams in 2011 and it seems like the front runners are Montreal and Vancouver. I've written about this before and I stand by my opinion that I think it would be a really good idea to add teams in Montreal and Vancouver, assuming that MLS will have the same type of impact in those cities that its had in Toronto. RailHawks blow man advantage, can't finish off Timbers

1
After being gifted a man advantage for about the final 50 minutes of the match in Portland Thursday night when Chris Brown elbowed David Stokes in the face, the RailHawks failed to take advantage of their superior numbers to steal three points from the Timbers.
Instead, the RailHawks continued their undisciplined trend of earning ejections themselves as David Stokes was sent off late in the second half for a second yellow. Click to continue reading...

Get out your Richter Scales, the Quakes are in Town!

2

Another day, another game (or so it seems) for TFC. Tomorrow, cellar-dwellars San Jose pay their first ever visit to BMO Field, in what some fans are calling a must-win game. They cite the fact that we have not won in the past 7 games. Personally, this is an overreaction to me. 2 of those games were meaningless friendlies (Pachuca & Independiente) in which we played with a collection of players nobody had ever heard of (Murphy Wiredu, anyone?

Carver’s Conundrum

0

Carver released a team update yesterday in what feels like a heads up for bad things to come on Saturday. Thanks to that piss poor call by Jorge Gonzalez (I'm not going to drop that one any time soon) Edu's out, leaving a hole in the mid-field. Dichio is still seriously concussed so we're still lacking solid striking capability.

A Hard-Fought (but disppointing) Draw

1

If I was making commemorative t-shirts for our match in BC they'd read, 'We went to Vancouver and all we came back with was a lousy draw.' While it was lousy result it was far from a lousy match. It would have been a satisfactory result if we were playing a team like New England but the Whitecaps are far from it.

Montreal's to lose

1
The Montreal Impact are celebrating tonight's 2-2 draw between Vancouver and Toronto FC. TFC came back nicely to take the lead after falling behind just before halftime, only to give up the lead three minutes from time. Eduardo Sebrango took advantage of a shockingly bad Edu clearance, rounded 'keeper Greg Sutton, and slotted the ball into the net. Click to continue reading...

TFC stumbles to a messy tie in Vancouver, 2-2

0
Trying to keep my positive side up - at least TFC have a chance to finish strong against Montreal later this month. It is simple, win and they're in. In, of course, is to be the Canadian club champs and play in the Concacaf Champions League. Yet judging by the performance in Vancouver, the negatives could easily get to you.
