Hope for Valencia?

0

Some news today after yesterday's reports of impending doom for our Beloved club ...

- Vicente Soriano may have found a way out of this mess ... imperative word being maybe.
According to a report in Las Provincias, the Old Mestalla's buyer is allowing Valencia CF to show their agreement to Bancaja in order to obtain more funds for the club.

The Future of Valencia CF

0

If you haven't read today's Spanish tabloids, here's the main crux of the news: Valencia CF, as an entity, are in deep trouble.

If Valencia don't come up with 50 million Euros by December 31st, the club may have to declare bankruptcy.

We all knew this day might come. Now here we are, a month away from what could be one of the darkest moments in club history.

Valencia … Oh Valencia …

0

Yesterday's 3-2 win against Real Betis is the type of game champions need to win.

And win we did, although in usual nervy fashion.

We scored two goals in the first 20 minutes to take seeming command of the match only to watch it slip away. Juanma pulled a goal back for the Sevilla side 11 minutes after the break and Achille Emana equalized from the penalty spot not long after.

Who’s The Fool Now?

0

Happy Thanksgiving to all of the American Valencia followers ... and to anyone out there that likes stuffing their face full of food! It was an enjoyable holiday full of grub, merriment and joy.

One of the reasons the holiday turned out so well was the 4-0 bashing we gave to Norway's Rosenborg last night.

Problems

0

Everything is going just fine with Valencia CF these days.

Or not, depending on how you look at it.

On the one hand, we have the best striker in the world in David Villa.

We have David Silva on the come back trail.

We're in 4th place in Spain, a mere 5 points from the leader FC Barcelona.

Boring?

1

Goal.com's Arjun Miglani may call himself a football fan/journalist, but based on his assessment of yesterday's 0-0 draw between Valencia and Sevilla, I'm not so sure of the former.
Here's Mr. Miglani's take on yesterday's match ...

Both these sides harbour ambitions of challenging for the title, but, on the basis of this performance, that appears to be an unrealistic goal.

Quick Tidbits

0

Some quick ones before today's match-up against Sevilla FC ...

- Goal.com thinks it'll be a wide open affair ...

Games of this calibre are usually very open and attack minded. With both teams level on points, it's the winner who will have the last laugh. Remember, the Pizjuan is an extremely difficult stadium to play in, especially with the fans right up to the pitch.

Deadly Stretch

0

So here we are, the beginning of our deadly stretch of matches against the big boys of La Liga.

First up? The Sevillistas of Andalucia: Sevilla FC.
This promises to be a good game. Sevilla are tied with us in points at 23 and are a well-oiled machine, with deadly strikers Luis Fabiano and Frederic Kanoute up front and Adriano and Jesus Navas running up the wings.

Curro Torres

0

Curro Torres.

He's played many roles with Valencia CF since signing for the club in 1997.

He's been loaned out to various teams, played for the B team, kept the locker room in order, bar backed at Manolo El Del Bombo's and served non-alcoholic beer at the Mestalla.

But seriously .

Uggh …

0

That was bad. That was pathetic. That was ... Koeman-like?

Ok, maybe I'm going too far.

Last night's 3-2 loss to Villa's Sporting Gijon was a game we had to have. We can ill afford to lose points, what with this brutal schedule ahead of us in the league ...
11/23 - Sevilla
11/30 - Betis
12/6 - Barcelona
12/14 - Espanyol
12/21 - Real Madrid
1/4 - Atletico
1/11 - Villarreal
1/18 - Athletic Bilbao

Factor in Copa Del Rey, UEFA Cup and international matches for our top players and we're talking a glut of games in a short period of time.

Villa’s Heart

0

A quick post before today's match-up against Sporting Gijon.

Gijon aren't a particularly sexy club. They finished 3rd in Spain's Second Division last season and were promoted for the first time in 10 years.

They're currently languishing in 14th place, eleven points behind Los Che.

Best Fans in the World

1

Valencia CF have the best fans in the world.

At least that's what team president/owner Vicente Soriano thinks after the club sold out of their new club memberships.

Valencia wanted 2,600 new members to raise badly needed funds.
"Our supporters have proven again that they are the best in the world," Soriano said.

Shenanigans

0

Great win against Getafe this Sunday for our Beloved.

I thought the contest was a hard-fought affair. The match had nine yellow cards and one red to Roberto Soldado for a headbutt on Carlos Marchena (more on that later). This speaks volumes about how hard-core this game turned out.

Getafe had no answers for our fiery defense and quick counter-attacks.

Quick and Hasty

0

Sorry, my friends. This one's going to be quick as I'm pressed for time.

I turn to my 'friends' at goal.com for some information today ...

First, a preview of tomorrow's Getafe-Valencia match, a re-match of last season's Copa Del Rey final.

According to the sages at the website:

If Valencia do choose to continue playing reckless attacking football, they could be caught again against a Getafe side who, like Racing, thrive by playing on the counter.

Oh Oh

After Valencia's lackluster 1-1 draw with FC Copenhagen yesterday at the Mestalla in the opening match of the UEFA Cup group stage, are our Beloved in trouble?

Let's not go crazy and say the club is in crisis. But something's off with the team the last few games.

Could it be the lack of team depth?

The Season Marches On

It's been an exciting few days here in the USA ... while I don't want to make this a political blog, what a breathtaking time to be here ... I'm honored to have been a part of it.

Anyways, as for where President-Elect Obama will play, how about center back, where we're about to lose Real Madrid retread Ivan Helguera?

Racing and a Chelsea Link?

0

After thumping third division side Portugalete 4-1 in the Copa Del Rey midweek (I'd previously said Segunda B side Portugalete ... ), Our Beloved are back at the Mestalla for a Saturday evening match against 17th-place Racing Santander.

Nicola Zigic's former club is struggling, scoring a scant 5 goals during the season.

The Copa and Our Chances

0

Tomorrow, Our Beloved begin defense of our Copa Del Rey championship against Segunda B minnows Club Portugalete.

Although Portugalete are enjoying a bit of an economic and sporting renaissance (they recently secured 1.5 million Euros from the local council to upgrade their training facilities and have won 12 consecutive home games), Valencia are expected to cakewalk against the Basque side.

Two Points Left on the Table

First off, great comments by everyone in the comments section of the blog ... keep up the great analysis and witty rapport. I love reading what everyone else thinks and we're building a nice community of people interested in Valencia CF.

Now, on to the game.

We're still leaders in Spain.

Good Vibrations

0

The days pass until our next game against Recreativo this Sunday and the accolades continue to rain in.

First off, a nice little ditty about our wonder coach Unai Emery and his resemblances to former coach and current Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez.

Valencia have been transformed from a strife-ridden side that flirted with relegation last season to the early Primera Liga leaders thanks to new coach Unai Emery's ability to unite the dressing room.

Another Week, Another Win …

0

I'm loving this way too much, I really am ...

Valencia's 4-0 victory over Numancia at the Mestalla yesterday opened up a two-point gap at the top of the Spanish La Liga.

The unambitious David Villa added two goals to increase his league-leading tally to eight. Vicente and Mata added the other two.

News? What News?

0

Valencia are back, playing Numancia this Sunday at the Mestalla.

Didn't that two week international break between league matches for World Cup qualifying seem longer than usual?
I'm glad our Beloved are finally back ...

In that two-week span, the news out of the Mestalla has been relatively sparse.

Lack of Ambition?!?

1

Not much to report after Spain's emphatic 3-0 victory over Estonia. I had the pleasure of watching the match with Timothy Lakefront at my local and good times were had. Thanks for coming, Tim.

As for our Beloved, the news wires are a bit cold. But here's 2 news tidbits I saw bandying around the soccer news wires.

Give Us a Chance!

0

With this being an international weekend jam-packed with World Cup qualifying, it's a nice time to sit back, relax and enjoy our status as the top team in Spain.

It's early, but that doesn't mean we can't revel in what our club's accomplished. After last season, I think we have that right .

UEFA Cup and Mijatovic

1

Today's UEFA Cup draw drew up some nice surprises for our Beloved.

For starters, we got a relatively easy draw. Of course, I'm saying this in the calm of October, when we're in first place.

Who knows what our season will look like in a few months time.

But from here, it looks good.

1st Place Valencia

0

Another game, another week where our Beloved top the Spanish La Liga table.

This week, an emphatic 1-0 victory over Real Valladolid, the goal coming from Portuguese midfielder Manuel Fernandes. I mention this because it's the first time since December 22, 2007 and a 2-2 draw against Real Zaragoza that a foreign player scored for Valencia.

Valencia Move On

0

Sorry for my prolonged absence and end of the Streak. A nasty illness did me in. But I'm back and getting better. The Streak will return at a later time!

So what did I miss?

For starters, Valencia played a cagey match today against Maritimo but finally advanced in the UEFA Cup with a 2-1 victory, goals by David Villa (who else?

The One Thing Wrong with Valencia

3

This has been pointed out by Dina in yesterday's comments and by some other posters around the internet, the one thing wrong with Valencia CF as currently constructed: Our lack of another goalscorer besides David Villa.

Look at the numbers: In 4 games, Villa has scored half of Valencia's 8 goals, tied with Florent Sinama Pongolle of Atletico Madird and Rafael Van der Vaart of Real Madrid as Pichichi (leading scorer) of La Liga.

Official: Soriano Takes Over

1

Talk about a good start to the season.

We're in first place after 4 games.
David Villa is scoring goals for us in buckets.
We're short Silva, Vicente, Baraja and Marchena and still holding strong.

Now this: Juan Soler is no more. Vicente Soriano is officially the largest shareholder at Valencia.

MaraVilla

This'll be a short post today. I'll leave the prognosis to you.

But my initial impressions after today's 2-0 over Malaga are good.

We didn't play great. But who cares? We have the three points and remain at the top of the table with 10 points, tied with Villarreal.

If I'd told you before the season started that this is where we'd be, we would have signed up for it right away.
