Uniform Code

17
Some discussion over at Uniwatch about the collecting and wearing of jerseys (I'm sure it's going to get heated now that people have brought up their "rules" for what you can and can't collect or wear and the proper etiquette, so read at your own risk, but I'm out of the conversation now). But while [. Click to continue reading...

If you were watching the U.S. Olympic team play and felt like something was missing, it's because something was.

No Mexican teams in SuperLiga final

10
Need translation? Click below.

Announcer introduces analyst Carlos Albert
Carlos Albert: Atlante has demonstrated, like all the teams in this tournament, that they're not in good form yet, they're in preseason. But that's a pretext, like the bad refs, because all the Mexican teams accepted those terms while chasing the carrot of a million dollars. Click to continue reading...

Marseilles fans hoping to swoop up Drogba

0
This is a cute story. Something you might hear when a cheerleading squad wants new uniforms.

Marseilles fans want Chelsea forward Didier Drogba back so much that they're raising money to cover the star's transfer fee.

They have a website and everything! With online contributions faith-based promises to contribute, they might be up to two million euros -- which is still a long way from the 20 some million required. Click to continue reading...

Transfer Shocker: Catholic Church Makes Surprise Swoop for Revs Defender

9
Revolution defender Chase Hilgenrbrinck has been released from his MLS contract to sign on with The Vatican aka "The God squad". Seriously, he's joining the priesthood...and we all know why; they have much better uniforms than New England ever will.

Good luck to you Chase; I sincerely hope that you will save more souls than you've blocked crosses. Click to continue reading...

Right to business

Just a quick introduction first, my name is Mark and I'll be writing for you here at the Bolton Offside. I'm 19 years old, living in New York, and a Graphic Media Marketing major at RIT in Rochester. Enough on that though, on to business.

The new home kit:
This kit has been getting a lot of harsh criticism, including being named a candidate for the ugliest 08/09 Premiership shirt.

SLYSA Flooding

2

When the river spilled across the levee, it filled the St. Louis Youth Soccer Association fields like a bathtub. By Thursday, water had reached the roof of the pavilion in the soccer complex parking lot.

SLYSA President Roger Uphoff said it would take at least six months to regrow the fields from scratch, which would mean the league's 8,000 players might not be able to play on the fields this fall.

In advance of Sunday midday...

I was on the fence about this post. It is silly, certainly. I thought I might discuss the horizontal symmetries of the two clubs' jersey sponsors.
See?
Or I might mention the fact that Greg Vanney is now a "Herbalife-sponsored player" (see: New Stars in the LA Galaxy) and has 10 appearances this season for the Galaxy after most recently playing for DC United. Click to continue reading...

Team Building or Tyranny?

1
Some travel team coaches require players to wear matching practice attire and a few are so strict that they'll send players home if they aren't wearing it. Is this creative coaching or overzealous coaching? Will matching attire have that much of an impact on a team's dynamic? Click to continue reading...

Atlanta Soccer Reviews > Clubs > Youth

0
This is a continuously updated post on my experiences as a "player's parent" with the local Atlanta area youth soccer scene.

Below is a list of all of the clubs in Atlanta and beneath each is my "review" of sorts. For each review, I have qualitatively assessed player quality, coach quality, and sportsmanship. Click to continue reading...

Lunatic Fringe

1
It doesn't happen often, but every now and then one of these comes up for bid on eBay: Yep, a Colorado Caribous jersey. Supposedly game-worn by Brian Tinnion, an English forward who played 24 games (scoring four goals) for the Caribous in their one and only NASL season, 1978. Tinnion, coincidentally, turns 60 this coming Wednesday. Click to continue reading...

Black? Black??

9
When did the USMNT get an all black kit? Hey - anything is better than the Old Navy Pajamas - but all black? Well, if we can go to Poland and wear all black, we certainly can go somewhere else and wear RED like so many people want! I can understand not wearing red in [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Black? Gray Area

0
Just in time for tomorrow's friendly in Poland, the US Men's National team has - guess what? - another new jersey! This one goes completely off the color palette, with what I originally thought was black, but which my man Aris Ohanessian points out is actually dark charcoal gray. Gray? Come on. I like it better than [. Click to continue reading...

2008 MLS numbers, home away combos

0
According to a graphic released by Uni-sport.com, the new MLS kit numbers have arrived, as well the home/away unis for each MLS side for the 2008 season. The numbers may look familiar: they're similar to the number font used by Italy during Germany '06.

Oh, and an added bonus - no more standard black or white (or gold, if your Chivas USA) numerals. Click to continue reading...

USMNT Past Kit Poll

16
While reading one of the many posts around the Soccersphere ridiculing the new USMNT kit, commentor bq at Throughball posted a link to a Slate article/slideshow from last June that does a great job looking back at the, er, non-evolution of the USMNT kit. It's a must read if you haven't seen it! In light of the almost [. Click to continue reading...

Can someone please explain to me why US Soccer wants our team to look like we're wearing pajamas on the pitch? This new kit is just horrible and makes you long for the 3rd kit to come out more often. From Iconic to Ironic

1
Speaking of jerseys (and I have to thank Dan for the tip on this one), DC United's new look, to be worn by some new players: The team that's been Major League Soccer's "most authentic" club over its first 12 years, the one that's been the most subtle in its brand, the most understated (for the [...] Click to continue reading...

Stars and Pinstripes Forever

2
Are they still pinstripes if they're horizontal, or do they have to be vertical? And if they're wide apart, are they still pinstripes? Anyway, here's the new US Men's National Team jersey: And here's the first thing I thought of when I saw it: Look, USSF and Nike, seriously: quit screwing around with the uniform, okay? More Color

4
The rumors that I've been hearing since late last season have turned out to be turn. Late in the season I'd heard the rumor that the Wizards would be adding yellow to their team colors. Today after we finally got word from a Wizards staffer in print that the team would be adding the color. Over at Oz City, futuregrace has had a few entries looking at the addition of yellow in the uniform. Click to continue reading...

My Name is on Your Shirt

0
One of the biggest difference between American and European sports are teams put sponsors on the front of their jersey in order to raise money for their clubs. Over the last couple of years the amount of money that teams have been spending has grown out of control and so have the shirt deals.

According to a recently released report by European marking group: Sport+Markt, the numbers continue to grow. Click to continue reading...

I've taken some shots at this uniform, so after the team never wore it at the World Cup and finished 3rd, I felt this was appropos.
