Sportsnet, I owe an apology - we’re getting Mexico!

0
A few days ago I ranted about the lack of TV coverage by Sportsnet for the Mexico game. Today I eat crow and recant my rant as they finally announced (via Gerry Dobson's blog), that they will be carrying the game and yes, it will be live. And finally, many of you have been wondering about [...] Click to continue reading...

Sportsnet streams Canada vs Honduras

52
Just in case I failed to mention it here before, Sportsnet will be streaming tomorrow night's WCQ vs. Honduras from Montreal. As for regular TV coverage, the schedule is the typical convoluted Sportsnet mash of times and delays that requires a PhD in media studies to unravel. The must-win for Canada game will be streamed live on [. Click to continue reading...

Got Gol?

2
Gol TV has my favorite soccer announcer, Phil Schoen.

Problem is, it's not that easy to find the channel any more.

It's only on DIRECTV.

And as far as what's only on GolTV - the upcoming 2010 World Cup qualifying matches and exclusive TV coverage of Spain's La Liga. Click to continue reading...

Who knew...actor Gary Oldman shows off his keepy-uppy skills in a promotional video for ITV. Oldman, who has appeared in films such as Batman: The Dark Knight and the Harry Potter movies stars in an ITV promo themed "Good things come in threes" - a reference to the broadcaster's live England, FA Cup and UEFA [. Dish Network drops GolTV from his lineup

Like every Real Madrid fan, I was looking forward to watch this past weekend the Emirates Cup which took place in England. The tournament was very promising but what was my surprise when I woke up to watch that instead of the Emirates Cup, they had a game with south american teams instead. What a surprise, Goltv was gone, no more great la liga games, no more Real Madrid. Click to continue reading...

Meanwhile, in South America...

...Ecuador's LDU Quito won the Copa Libertadores by virtue of a penalty kick shoot-out in Wednesday night's second leg of the finale. The Copa Libertadores, for the uninitiated, is almost certainly the second biggest club competition on the planet. Unfortunately, it doesn't get much coverage outside of South/Latin America. Sixty days

0
Last Friday marked T-60 days to the start of the Champions League. We know the qualifying round and group stage schedules, and we know all but two of the participating teams. We have knowledge of the TV coverage for the competition. However, we don't know the following: The playoff dates -- not results -- for group qualifiers among the Honduran and Guatemalan representatives or the sole Nicaraguan qualifier The rules and regulations governing the tournament The names of any sponsors of the Champions League Prize money to be awarded (admittedly we probably won't know this for a while) CONCACAF has. It Is An Entertainment Show

Yesterday, Matthew Yglesia's political blog took a brief and (as usual) dubious detour into the Americans-don't-like-soccer-why-is-that-oh-yes-they-do-oh-no-they-don't-it's-because-of-the-low-scoring-well-actually-are-other-sports-really-so-different-I-hate-the-diving-I-don't-like-nil-nil-draws-but-actually-nil-nil-draws-can be-quite-compelling-et-cetera-ad-nauseum debate. Yep!! You Will Be Sick and You Won't Need a Drink

Chances are you have already pencilled the dates in your diary of when your team plays once season 2008/09 kicks off. No doubt right at this minute you are contemplating all your team's games home and away, who you would like to meet in the FA Cup and Carling Cup competitions and wondering whether or not your team is good enough to reach Wembley in May 2009 in whichever competition.
