Reserves Pump TFC 6-0 Sunday

1
Sorry for the delayed post, here's the release about the match. On the Marinelli goal, I've seen elsewhere that Souter scored, but the refs said the initial fumble by Edwards went over the line and Souter pushed it in afterward. Enjoy the rest of the rundown.

Reserves Destroy Toronto

2
The KC Wizards reserves had no problem taking down the Toronto FC reserves this morning out at the Wizards Swope Park training complex. Ivan Trujillo had a hattrick as the reserves beat Toronto 6-0 today. The first half for the game was fairly quiet, as the Wizards and Toronto didn't have many great chances. As I noted yesterday, we played the Arkansas Wizards today in a scrimmage at our Swope Park Training Center. The club brought a U-23 team, and we used it as a tune-up with most players getting a half of game time. Check out the lineups and goal-scoring summary below:

1st half lineup:

------------Hartman (Kronberg 36)-----------

Leathers----Conrad---Wahl---Harrington---

Reserves Top UMKC

1
The Wizards reserve players topped UMKC easily this morning out at the Swope Park training center, 8-1. The game was as close as it was, as the reserves dominated the performance for long stretches of the game. Here's how the reserves started out:
Kronberg
Myers - McMahen - Wahl - Watson
Marinelli - Souter - Morsink - Espinoza
Pore - Trujillo

The scoring started early, as in the 9th minute, Kevin Souter overlapped Carlos Marinelli, who backhealed the ball as he went by. Click to continue reading...

Reserves Top Creighton

1
Not much to say about this one, Hillcrest Road has a small write up, including the starting lineup for the reserves. Creighton's website has a little bit more, including the time of the Wizards lone goal, in the 86th minute by Ivan Trujillo from Creighton alum, Michael Kraus. Unfortunately that's about all the info you can get from the two write ups on the game. Click to continue reading...

Reserves Top Creighton

1
Our KCW Reserve squad took on the University of Creighton today at our Swope Park Training Center, winning 1-0 on a goal from Ivan Trujillo. Creighton grad Michael Kraus provided the assist after coming on as a second-half substitute. Reserves Win Exhibition

4
One night after the first team got back to its winning ways with a 3-2 win over Chivas USA, the reserve squad took on a group of local college players with much success. The reserves won 4-0, on goals from Espinoza, Marinelli, Kraus and Pizarro. Jonathan Leathers left the game early in the first half and colliding with an opponent and cutting his head. Reserves Salvage Something from Weekend

0
The reserves were able to get something out of the trip to DC this weekend, as the league leaders took down second place DC United 4-2 this morning to increase their lead on top of the division. Ryan Pore opened the scoring from the penalty spot, after Nelson Pizarro was fouled in the box. Early in the second half, the Wizards doubled their lead, when Kevin Souter, let loose a bomb that curled into the corner. Click to continue reading...

Reserves Top United's 4-2

3
Our reserve squad turned in an impressive performance today against D.C. United's, winning 4-2 at the RFK Auxiliary Field. Below is a write-up from DCU's press dude Kyle Sheldon. He summed it up pretty well, so I won't try to squeeze it in before catching the bus to the airport. Note: Souter's goal was an absolute BOMB to start the second half. Click to continue reading...

I'm Sorry...

2
that was just plain bad tonight. The Wizards facing another undermanned team (as many as 8 starters missing) and lay a complete egg in DC losing 2-0. The first shut out of the season for Zach Wells and DC United. Yet again, the Wizards offense looked anemic, refusing to take shots until it was too late and then putting them wide or straight at the keeper. Click to continue reading...

Another Look at the Open Roster Spot

0
With the recent trade of Scott Sealy, the Wizards again have an open roster spot to fill. From comments made by Coach Onalfo and Peter Vermes, the team is looking to fill that spot with a player. Will the Wizards go out and try to get a forward to partner Josh Wolff? Pushing Ivan Trujillo to the bench? Click to continue reading...

Wizards Make Trade

1
Hold on, it's not that big a deal. According to 3rd Degree, the great FC Dallas blog, the Wizards have traded one of their international slots to Dallas in return for a 4th round draft pick in next year's SuperDraft.

So no, not a glamor trade of any kind. It's the second international slot the Wizards have traded away in the last two seasons. Click to continue reading...

Columbus Preview - Return of the Wolff?

2

That's probably the biggest question surrounding tonight's game against the Crew. Will Josh Wolff make his KC return? He's itching to do so. And if he does, how much of an impact will he have? Clearly, this is a team that needs goals in order to have any kind of shot at the playoffs. Trading Sealy is a bit iffy because of that, but according to Ives they received upwards of $125,000 for him - not bad.

Back to Columbus

0
The Wizards make their token appearance on ESPN tomorrow night when they travel to Columbus to take on the Crew. The Wizards are 0-2 against the Crew this year after dropping the first game in Columbus 2-1 and then being humbled at home 3-0 a few weeks ago. The Wizards come in on a four game unbeaten run in the league (2-0-2) and on a 6 game unbeaten run overall (3-0-3). Click to continue reading...

Some Love From the Outskirts

0
Thanks to the hard work of one of our interns, Libby from K-State, some outlying newspapers are paying a little more attention to us lately. Wizards vanquish RailHawks' Open Cup aspirations (Cary News)

0
In the immediate aftermath of Ivan Trujillo's 94th-minute winner for Kansas City Tuesday night, RailHawks defenders Mauricio Segovia and Kupono Low and goalkeeper Chris McClellan looked at each other as if to say, how on earth did that just happen?
The inquisitive expression was specifically intended for that moment. Click to continue reading...

Stayin’ Alive…

It was a rare sight to see yesterday as the Wiz score more than one goal in a 4-2 win over the Carolina Railhawks. What a pleasure to see so many goals from the boys in blue, and while the RailHawks were the inferior opponent, it didn't stop them from jumping out to a 2-0 lead 55 minutes in. Carolina got a couple of nice goals from Santiago Fusilier and Matthew Watson.

KC Get By Carolina

1
It took a late PK in regulation and two goals in extra time, but the Wizards made it by the Carolina Railhawks 4-2 after extra time tonight, in Cary, NC. KC started the game strong and looked to be bringing the game to Carolina, when Chance Myers went closer early in the match. KC, though, couldn't get the offense going, as Ryan Pore, and Carlos Marinelli both missed good chances. Click to continue reading...

Click to continue reading...

Hoping for a Win

1
We're back home again this weekend. This time it's to take on Real Salt Lake. Salt Lake is coming in on a 5 game winning streak, including their first road win of the season, a 1-0 result at Chivas USA. Other then that win, though, Salt Lake is 0-5 on the road. So here's to hoping that Salt Lake returns to their regular road form against us tomorrow night. Click to continue reading...

Reserves Lose Too

2
The Wizards reserves followed the example of the first team, and lost 3-2 to the Columbus Crew in reserve league play today. Like the first team, the reserves fell behind 2-0 early. Unlike last night, though, the reserves fought back and Ryan Pore scored right before the half to make it 2-1. In the second half, the Wizards controlled the play, especially down their left wing. The Youth

2
While the first team played in Salt Lake this past weekend, the Wizards Junior teams competed in the Kansas State Cup competition. Three of the Wizards four teams won the state cup title. The Wizards U-19 team had the easiest path, with only a three team group, the Juniors only had to win one match, which they did easily winning 9-0 over KC Comets Select. Click to continue reading...

KCW top KCB 5-1

1
It seems that every time it rains before a Reserve match, the skies clear just in time for the game. The same was true again in the Kansas City derby, of sorts. The Wizards prevailed 5-1 through goals from Trujillo (2), Colombano, Victorine and Kraus. The Brass scored the first goal of the season against the KCW Reserves in an exhibition. Wizards To Sign Columbian Striker

11
Some were puzzled out there to why the Kansas City Wizards passed on a number of strikers in last week's MLS SuperDraft. I had a feeling going into the draft that they would go the direction that they went even with the potential loss of Eddie Johnson to Fulham or where ever he lands. But [...] Click to continue reading...
