RSL's Beltran Sidelined By Hernia

1
Real Salt Lake rookie defender Tony Beltran has undergone a successful operation for a sports hernia in Munich, Germany, the club announced today. He has missed RSL's last five league matches due to the injury, but will return to Salt Lake City tonight and should be ready to return in 2-3 weeks.

"We are pleased that Tony's surgery was successful, and we look forward to Tony fighting his way back into our back-line rotation and contributing down the stretch," said Real Salt Lake GM Garth Lagerwey. Click to continue reading...

Weekend College Preview: Bruins, LMU & More

2

The UCLA men (1-1) are on the road this weekend playing No. 1-ranked Wake Forest Friday and North Carolina Sunday.

UCLA bounced back from a wrenching 2-1 overtime to Maryland at Home Depot Center last Friday to hand Coach Jorge Salcedo his 50th college victory Sunday in a 3-0 win over UC Riverside.

Gibbs Grateful, Cooke On The Move?

7
There was a rumor in SI a few days ago about interest in Terry Cooke back in England. The basis of the rumor? David Moyes said some good things about him. Classic English rumor; that is, little if anything behind it but they'll still print it. I love have Terry at the Rapids. But it would seem odd that PNE, Derby and Cardiff were all interested in him because Moyes said something nice. Click to continue reading...

WVH Rookie Watch List

7
Today just seems like as good of a time as ever to update this list. Seeing how it has been nearly a month's time since our last view at this list. Some rookies are shining in league games and in once case in SuperLiga games. With only ten or 12 games left on the year (depending [...] Click to continue reading...

Wizards 2, Real Salt Lake 1 (A Supporter's View)

4

The kid deserved better.

Tony Beltran is a rookie having himself a pretty good first season in MLS but he had to endure a fate that so many defenders have to endure, the cursed game-losing own goal.

Beltran's mistake snapped Real Salt Lake's record-setting unbeaten streak at five games while also giving new life to a Wizards team desperate for a win after going more than two months without one.

They All Count

1
Yes, it was an own goal, yes one of our players still haven't scored since Claudio Lopez against LA, but all that will matter in the end is that the scoreline says 1-0 with KC being on top. In a game that KC had the better of possession and the more dangerous of play, they could only manage 1 goal.

Winning the toss, KC made Salt Lake go into the sun in the first half, which helped to negate much of Salt Lake's offense in the first half. Click to continue reading...

Real Salt Lake- Chivas USA at Home Depot Center

1

A curious line-up this evening for Chivas USA Coach Preki.

Dan Kennedy makes his MLS debut in goal, while Sacha Kljestan also starts.

Does that mean Brad Guzan starts in goal Sunday for the U.S. against Barbados instead of Tim Howard? Does it also mean Kljestan won't even dress tomorrow for the World Cup qualifier?

Surprise Number 1 Pick for KC?

16

From College to the Pros is a great blog dealing with players coming up the college ranks and turning pro. They did a full 4 round mock draft earlier today, not many sites will actually do that. The big rumor from the blog right now is that the Wizards could make a surprise selection with the number 1 pick tomorrow, Tony Beltran. Click to continue reading...

Beltran To Be Surprise #1???

16
I know a lot of readers are surprised to see me with Tony Beltran at #5 in the below mock draft. However, the rumors won't stop swirling and now I hear KC may have had Beltran in mind when they traded up. I know, you're all picking your jaws up off the floor! Who knows, I may be part of some pre-draft poker game manipulation, but my sources are very interested in Beltran and thinks many MLS coaches are too. Click to continue reading...

Cardiac Arrest: US U-20's 1-2 Austria

29
My heart is still pounding. I can't believe how disappointed I am.

Here's the only thing I can figure about this game: Austria made a brilliant substitution and Rongen failed the world with his. The US pressed and pressed and should have finished, but the clock seemed to pound louder than their hearts and every chance was squandered.

Seitz put in a hero's performance, injured and playing through the rain, but in the end the conditions proved to much even for him and the Austrians slipped through. Click to continue reading...
