Injuries Force Changes as Rapids Head East

2
The Colorado Rapids, unbeaten in the past three games, are now headed to New York for a tough game on the turf against the Red Bulls. Much has been made of the consistency of the team in those recent games. Unfortunately, injuries mean there will have to be some changes in tomorrow night's line-up. Click to continue reading...

MLS Trading Deadline & Roster Freeze Date Looms

6

In just under 24 hours as I write this, at 5 p.m. Monday, MLS rosters will be set in stone for the rest of the season, until the day after MLS Cup.

Which means, incidentally, the Galaxy will be stuck with $130,000 a year defender Eduardo Dominguez ("he was all we could afford," one team official allegedly told a colleague of mine).

McManus Happy To Be Here

7
Six months after bolting from Scottish football for the friendly confines of Dick's Sporting Goods Park, Tom McManus took some time in an interview with the Edinburgh Evening News to reflect on his move, the sport's growing influence in America, and what the future holds. The 27-year-old striker was first signed to the Colorado Rapids earlier this year, after the club invited him to play in a pair of friendlies while training at Arsenal's facilities in Hertfordshire. If It's Thursday, It Must Be Dallas

0
Crikey! Didn't we just play a game? The Colorado Rapids have a very quick turnaround this week and will be off tomorrow for the game on Thursday night against Dallas. Unfortunately, that gives me no time to get up to training due to work commitments to suss out camp mood and get an idea of the line-up. Click to continue reading...

Will The Real Christian Gomez Please Stand Up?

4
The Colorado Rapids go into Friday night's Rocky Mountain Cup showdown against Real Salt Lake with what amounts to a mini injury crisis. Pablo Mastroeni and Terry Cooke, two of the most influential players in the team, will not make the trip due to hamstring injuries. Click to continue reading...

Rapids Unchanged (Almost) as Canadians Go South

0
The Colorado Rapids face international opposition for the second time in six days at Dick's Sporting Goods Park tomorrow. OK, it is an MLS game against Toronto rather than the likes of the EPL's Everton but there is more than national pride at stake here. This is a very important game for the Rapids who really need to win here and against Kansas City next weekend to boost playoff chances. Click to continue reading...

The Value of Hard Work; McBride for Colorado?

2
The value of hard work and the value of a deep roster. A week may be a long time in politics, as they say. A few weeks may actually be a very short time in professional sport. Last month wasn't looking great for two very skillful players on the Colorado Rapids team. At the beginning of July, both Mehdi Ballouchy and Herculez Gomez were wondering whether they would be able to find their way back into the starting XI. Click to continue reading...

Rapids at FC Dallas

1
The Colorado Rapids are in Frisco, Texas today to play FC Dallas. Dallas has 2 wins and 3 ties in their last 10 games. While they're struggled for points during this stretch they've only been shut out once, a 1-0 loss at New York. Can the Rapids shut them out this time around?

The only injuries with the Rapids worth noting at this time, sorry Justin, are Mike Petke, Tom McManus and all-star Christian Gomez.

The Good Signings, 2008 Edition

13
Over last weekend I brought to you a list of players that just didn't cut it or have it this year. Guys that were brought in expecting to start in some cases and contribute to their club's run at a MLS Cup this season. Those guys didn't work out but some signings from the offseason [...] Click to continue reading...

Colorado Rapids 4-0 New York Red Bulls, America Still Awesome

2

Does anyone know who's in charge over at the Rapids' website? Check out this headline on the front page: Rapids completely destroy New York on Independence Day. You can't really say they're wrong, though.

Have you ever seen the And1 basketball competitions? They're games of basketball with virtually no rules so that everyone can just do all kinds of basketball tricks.

Do You Know The Way to San Jose?

2
Well, the logistics department of the Colorado Rapids probably knows how to get the team there but do the team know how to win aginst the struggling Earthquakes? Thoughts must now turn to a vital game next weekend in California after yesterday's dismantling of a poor New York Red Bulls side. Click to continue reading...

Cynicism is OK But You Can't Win Without Goals

1
The relatively inexperienced midfield for the Colorado Rapids may have to inject a little more cynicism into its play to avoid making the kinds of mistakes that saw the team allow a similarly inexperienced Columbus player last week waltz through it and score the winning goal. Goalkeeper, Bouna Coundoul, said in this week's radio show, "From The Pitch", that Emmanuel Ekpo should have been fouled further up the field. Click to continue reading...

Still Not The Finished Article

0
The Colorado Rapids once again let themselves down in front of goal, failing to finish off any number of chances as they struggled to a scoreless draw against the Houston Dynamo last night. Many of those chances did fall to Omar Cummings but the Jamaican is finding it tough to net right now and he probably fears his starting place is under threat, only helping him to get more anxious in front of goal. Houston, You May Have a Problem

2
OK, bit of a corny headline but there is a good opportunity for the Rapids to vent all their frustrations of the past two weeks on the Dynamo this weekend. Coach, Fernando Clavijo, is very confident he will have the squad to roll the Texans over. Back comes a very solid defense with Ugo Ihemelu returning from pseudo international duty with Canada and Facundo Erpen returning from suspension. Click to continue reading...

It's Not The Fear, it's the Finishing

1
The way the Colorado Rapids started this game, they certainly looked as if there was no fear. There was energy, purpose and some very clear chances in the opening ten minutes or so. Jacob Peterson, for example, had a glorious chance in the opening three minutes but was only able to offer a weak shot straight into the keeper's arms. Click to continue reading...

WVH Week 9 Awards: McManus’s Rocket Beats Beckham’s Bomb

7
First off, sorry for the delay on this. I had some power issues this morning to deal with at the house so this post didn't get done at the time I had hoped for. But with all of that out of the way let's get down to business here with the weekly awards. I know the [...] Click to continue reading...
