Aussie Minister Kate Ellis pays up on her Olympic bet.

For us Brits there's nothing quite like getting on over on the Aussies when it comes to sport. They are just too good at it all so when the occasion comes round that we do end up looking down on them it's good to milk it for all it's worth. The 2005 Ashes may have been eclipsed by the debacle in Australia that followed but that doesn't change the fact that for those fleeting 12 months we had the one up on them. Come on Britain, it's only the Olympics

'If it were done when 'tis done, then 'twere well, It were done quickly' - Macbeth (Scotsman), William Shakespeare (Englishman)

Team GB is getting ridiculous. The prospect of Britain fielding a football team at the 2012 Olympics should have been something to celebrate after years of absence. Click to continue reading...

Everything changes but you…

...England, a thousand miles apart? The Olympics have provided us with a wonderful two weeks of entertainment and Team GB (why do they call it this? What happened to Great Britain?) exceeded all expectations and finished in a lofty fourth position in the medals table. Padraig Harrington won his second Open in succession and lifted the fourth major of the year, the US PGA to enter golfing folklore. Click to continue reading...

For example I was talking about this issue back in August last year.

And do you remember the time I predicted Gary Megson would become the Foxes' manager? And I was right of course (although to be fair, with the advantage of hindsight I wish I hadn't been)

Now it seems some people are recognising that the idea of team GB is politically driven. Click to continue reading...

Olympic Glory

A few months ago I decided not to blog on the Olympics 'cause of them being in China...I didn't realise how hard our athletes would make this. Their efforts out there have been awesome. Truly fantastic, inspiring stuff.

Hats off to all the "Team GB" Olympians. We are all watching and loving it. Click to continue reading...

Great Britain Team On The Horizon

It's a concept that has been debated for years but now it seems that a Great British football team will become a reality. Fifa President Sepp Blatter, who once suggested that women should wear tighter shorts to make the female game more attractive, has already given his support to the idea and it now appears that the FA are keen on the proposal as well. Team GB: Would this team win the Olympics?

Scottish and Irish FAs have every right to pour scorn on the idea on the prospect on a Team GB squad for the Olympics; it is an unfortunate setup in sport that when we have a kickabout, we're our own independent country, but when we're scooping whatever medals are going at the Games, we have link arms and be all happy-clappy under the Great Britain banner.
