Hey, who shut the window?

1
While a resurgent Chicago Fire club was busy picking apart the New England Revolution Thursday night, a larger storyline was looming for the guests. When the final whistle signaled the conclusion of that series – 3-0 aggregate to Chicago - it may have also signaled the demise of an era for the Revolution. Click to continue reading...

The Thursday Night Hype: MLS Greatest Playoff Moments

1
It's on y'all. All the hand-holding and grab-assin' of the regular season has finally come to a close and the bed is now set for an 8-team love-in of championship proportions. It's playoff time tonight on ESPN2 and I'm putting my money on Chicago; they showed up big against D.C. last year and they weren't half as good as they are right now. Click to continue reading...

Not locked, stocked or reloaded

It's hard to say who's suffered the worst during the previous thirty days: the investors on Wall Street or the footballers at Patriot Place. On September 29th, the Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeted 777 points in one day, the largest one-day point loss ever. Equally catastrophic events occurred five days later when Steve Ralston cracked his right fibula, and all but ended his 2008 season. Click to continue reading...

Video: DC United 2 - New England Revolution 1 (Major League Soccer)

5
D.C. United's season was rescued from the brink by the unlikeliest of leading men on Thursday night, as young striker Francis Doe notched a second-half brace to pace the Black-and-Red to a comeback 2-1 victory at RFK Stadium. The clutch result against their Eastern Conference rivals breaks a 10-game winless skid in all competitions and [. Click to continue reading...

Ooooh Revs Want The Cup! Gotta Have That Cup!

4
Dudes, Taylor Twellman wants the cup. He's even done a confessional video (along with Shalrie Joseph and Stevie Ralston) laying out exactly how bad he needs it. I say give it to him, why not? I mean the way my club is playing right now they've got about the same odds of winning as a tranny has of going unnoticed at Ronaldo's house. Click to continue reading...

Crew cut

1
Prior to yesterday's match, Sean Donahue and I made our predictions, as is our custom. I believe he said Kenny Mansally would score more goals than Taylor Twellman, but wouldn't be surprised if it ended 0-0. I stuck with my previously published prediction of 2-2, and offered that either Mansally or Sainey Nyassi would score. Click to continue reading...

Goodbye, Yankee Stadium...Hello Autumn

2
I'm going to start this post with a quote from one of my favorite songs - Don Henley's "Boys of Summer."

Nobody on the road
Nobody on the beach
I feel it in the air
The summer's out of reach*

(*I admit that the first time I heard this song was the Ataris version of it, which came out in 2003. Click to continue reading...

Twellman Countdown

11
Taylor Twellman has taken a lot of heat this season. From his outspoken desires to move on to Preston North End, to his multiple injuries this year and his apparent slowness to return to the field, he has not ingratiated himself to the Revolution fanbase. This is kind of sad, because for the six seasons [. Click to continue reading...

A look ahead for the Revolution

0
With those cumbersome extracurricular tournaments thankfully out of the way, the Revolution can focus their attention on the remaining fixtures left on MLS schedule. Here's an interesting bushel of stats pertaining to these final six matches:
Combined record of the five clubs (Revs face KC twice): 47-47-26
Revs combined record against these clubs: 3-3-1
Revs combined GF/GA against these clubs: 9/11
With three games at home, and three on the road, it does not get much more even than that. Click to continue reading...

Ralston Keys Big Revs' Win

1

Steve Ralston's return to the starting lineup after being sidelined with back spasms proved just the spark the Revolution needed to end their run of bad form.

Ralston assisted on two goals and scored one of his own and the Revolution scored four goals for the first time this season in a 4-0 home walloping of Chivas USA during primetime Thursday.

What the big guns say

2
Hey, hey, check out the MLS owner who is blogging and thereby revealing his love of the ellipses.

The post got me thinking, however, about other MLS owners. I got a little wistful when I thought about the antics about Mark Cuban, really. Honestly, most MLS owners are pretty bland by comparison. Click to continue reading...

Taylor’s Time?

3
With the recent World Cup qualifiers demonstrating how pathetically weak the US striker corps is the time has come for Bob Bradley to call back the player whose exclusion from the World Cup 2006 squad raised the most eyebrows. To Bradley's credit he did feature Twellman in the 2007 Gold Cup and Copa America, but [. Click to continue reading...

Revolution Have No Answers

1

Even with a few key returning players from injury, the Revs still didn't fare any better Saturday in Columbus.

Taylor Twellman was back up top and Michael Parkhurst and Chris Albright returned to the midfield, but it wasn't enough to stop the Crew from winning, 4-0 – matching the Revs 4-0 Champions League loss on Tuesday -- and moving five points ahead of New England in the standings.

MLS' Black Tuesday: What does it mean?

0

Chivas USA 1, Tauro FC (Panama) 1 - Tauro advance 3-1 on aggregate

That score from last night is an attention-grabber, isn't it? MLS has invested a lot of effort in playing up a rivalry with Mexico as the best league in this part of the world, so a loss to a team from Panama -- which ranks somewhere below Costa Rica, Guatemala and El Salvador in terms of international achievement -- isn't at all what the league would want.

Revs Eliminated from CONCACAF

The New England Revolution fell 4-0 to Joe Public F.C. on Tuesday completing a 6-1 aggregate defeat at the hands of their Trinidadian opponents.

The loss marks the first time an MLS team has been eliminated from CONCACAF competition by a Caribbean opponent and it is also the first time an MLS team has give up three or more goals to Caribbean opposition. Click to continue reading...

A Perfect Storm of MLS Failure

Small rosters. Brutal scheduling. Multiple tournaments. Player injuries. Any other excuses for New England's and Chivas USA's early exit from the inaugural CONCACAF Champions League?

Starting Galaxy goalkeeper Steve Cronin is out four to six weeks with a broken right hand, Galaxy officials confirmed Tuesday.

Los Angeles Galaxy goalkeeper Steve Cronin has a broken hand and will miss the next 4-6 weeks, according to 100 Percent Soccer's Nick Green. Revolution Draw with Galaxy

0

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- A depleted New England Revolution squad played to an entertaining 2-2 draw against a well rested Los Angeles Galaxy in front of nearly 40,000 at Gillette Stadium Saturday night.

Taylor Twellman scored his 96th career MLS regular season goal to give the Revs an early lead, but the Galaxy drew level through Landon Donovan 12 minutes later.

Next MLS Stars To Head Abroad

Gareth Maher over at Setanta sports' website listed XI MLS players capable of playing in the English Premier League. Joe Public Downs Revs in First Leg

0

An anemic New England offense rarely threatened Trinidad's Joe Public F.C. and the Revolution fell 2-1 in the away leg of their CONCACAF Champions League Preliminary Round series.

Injuries decimated the Revs offensive options and only a late penalty kick converted by Mauricio Castro allowed them to escape the island nation in a decent position heading into the home leg.

Fighting Talker College Spotlight

Revolution-Toronto FC analysis

1
The New England Revolution nearly accomplished something their cross-town sporting counterpart failed at last night – claiming a victory in Toronto.

The Boston Red Sox were thrashed to the tune of 11-0 by the Blue Jays at the Rogers Center, while miles away at BMO Field, the Revolution saved themselves from similar embarrassment with a solid 1-1 draw to the Reds. Click to continue reading...

Twellman, Revs Net Draw

4

The Revolution still left Canada without their first win within the borders of our northern neighbor, but did manage to get a point against Toronto FC on Saturday night.

Taylor Twellman scored the 95th MLS regular season goal of his career to give the Revs a first half lead, but Chad Barrett struck back for Toronto in the second half and the Revs left Canada with a 1-1 draw.

MLS game #20: DCU 1 - Revolution 2

1

Shoot.

The team departs early tomorrow morning to head back to the District and will turn focus towards the visiting Colorado Rapids on Saturday. The guys were - not surprisingly - disappointed with the result tonight. A number of players commented on what they thought was a poorly officiated match - it certainly looked like Fred got pulled down in the box in the second half - but most thought the team could have played better.
