Super Torres hands Liverpool all three points

0
Liverpool overcame local rivals Everton to go top of the Premier League table. Everton finished the game with ten men after Tim Cahill was shown a straight red for a challenge on Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.

Liverpool keeper Jose Pepe Reina didn't have one save to make all game and in truth the result never looked in doubt once Fernando Torres scored his first goal since the first game of the season. Click to continue reading...

Champions League game #2: DCU 0 - Marathon 2

4

The team sat in well through the first half and absorbed a few breakthrough chances by Marathon. It also looked as though the team missed out on a penalty call midway through the first half when Luciano Emilio was taken down by the Marathon's goalkeeper. Then, in the second half the guys seemed to gain a little control of the game and saw two decent opportunities for Boyzz Khumalo.

Santacroce: Don’t pick me for your fantasy team…

3

For all those who have Serie A fantasy teams, here's a tip for you: Don't pick Fabiano Santacroce. Who says? Santacroce himself! The Italy U-21 defender (who has an Italian father and a Brazilian mother) is one of the most promising defenders in all of Italy, and has drawn comparisons to Alessandro Nesta.

Gerrard Calms Reds Expectations

0
Almost 10 years since his debut and one goal short of his century for Liverpool, Steven Gerrard is still searching for the holy grail of title glory.

The league championship is the only domestic medal that 28 year-old Gerrard does not possess.

And as he prepares to celebrate a decade in the Liverpool side since his debut in November 1998, Gerrard will surely by then have cracked the 100-goal mark for the club after moving to 99 with his Champions League double in Marseille. Click to continue reading...

Champs League highlights

0
Maybe there's something strange that happens somewhere over the southern border. Maybe when MLS teams head into Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, they lose all sense of themselves.

Maybe that's why both Chivas USA and New England looked like garbage on Tuesday.

And yes, I'm fully aware that DC and Houston won home-and-away series just this year against non-Mexican CONCACAF teams and all that. Click to continue reading...

Premiership All-Star Team--Round 1

0
I'm going to do something new this season. After every round of games -- that is to say, after any league games that have been played between Tuesday of one week and Tuesday of the next (which takes into account the rare Monday night game) -- I'm going to name an All-Star Team based on that week's performances. US Women defeat Japan, will face Brazil for Gold

3
The US Women looked impressive after a slow start against Japan this morning.

Japan took an early 1-0 lead before the US shook the cobwebs out and got down to business. Heather Mitts looked great (ahem) pushing in to the attack from her right fullback position and Lori Chalupny made life miserable for Japan as well. Click to continue reading...

Martin Samuel Needs an Assistant to Count Up to 20

Martin Samuel reckons Man Utd can retain the Champions League this season. Fair enough. But then he said this,

"United could not take a chance on going another season without a 20-goal striker and Berbatov seems perfect for them. Even the best teams cannot stand still."

Battery & D.C. United advance in USOC

Superstar Adam has the photo-report of the all-USL semifinal, in which Charleston edged the Sounders in a shootout.

Seattle technically never scored, getting a 20th minute own-goal for its only tally, so it can't expect to win.

On the other side, D.C. overwhelmed the Revolution 'C' team 3-1 behind two goals from Luciano Emilio. Click to continue reading...

Two weeks in a row?

2

One of the only positive things to come out of last night's match was Jaime Moreno's 120th career goal. Remember after last week's goal when Jaime said he couldn't remember the last time he had scored with his head? Well, he did it again last night and his tally is up for the Sierra Mist Goal of the Week.

Who is Fabrice Muamba?

0

Fabrice Muamba
He's young. Only 20 years old and he's earned 7 caps for the England U21 squad in the last year. Fabrice Muamba is our new defensive midfielder and he can fill in right where Ivan Campo left off. Campo spent 6 seasons at the Reebok and he was a welcome sight for just about every Trotters supporter over the years, but he got older and he got slower.

Mark Lawrensen: Bringing In Goal Machine Must Be Top Of Agenda

1
With a month to go until the new Premier League season ask yourself this: As it stands, have Liverpool for the players that can score the goals to give them the title?

Personally, I don't think they have. My biggest bug-bear with Liverpool is that they need to realise it's okay to lose some games as long as you're trying to win them. Click to continue reading...

Fuller, Stoke City

It can always be difficult in the Preseason to pick players to fill your team, especially from the newly promoted clubs. Many of them will be transferring in new players who have experience playing Premier League football, and this can mean players who played large amounts of gametime in the previous season find themselves out in the cold.
