NJCAA Soccer Report: Barton Faces Garden City Tonight

A tough Laramie County Community College (7-2-1) took the trip from Wyoming to Great Bend, Kansas Saturday night for a non-conference soccer game. Barton County prevailed winning 3-1, and improving their season record to 10-0 on the year. The Springfield Demize players all had a big hand in the win contributing on every goal scored in the match.

The Barton County men had a dominant week starting conference play with three of the weaker teams in their region. On Wednesday September 10, the Cougars rolled to an 11-0 win over Dodge City CC. It was a dominant performance from start to finish as Barton scored eight goals in the second half. Springfield Demize midfielder Oscar Narvaez managed one goal and one assist on the contest.

NJCAA Report - Barton County Cougars Ranked #4, Crowder Wins 1st Games

The Barton County CC Cougars played a pair of non-conference games in Garden City, Kansas this weekend. On Saturday, Barton knocked off a solid Lincoln College (Illinois) team 3-0. Among the scorers, Springfield Demize midfielder Oscar Narvaez notched a goal on a brilliant free-kick from about 23 yards out.

OK, how many of you attended a Demize game this season? And if you didn't, what kept you away this summer?

The Demize had a difficult season, as measured by their 0-16 result. There were 8 goals scored, 48 surrendered. Tough numbers to reflect on but only part of the story of the team and the season.

It was a close, tightly fought game last night that turned on a single goal in the 26th minute when the Menace were able to intercept an outlet pass and counter-attack quickly, with x slotting his shot past the goal keeper from inside the box.

Despite taking an early lead on a 6th minute goal by Brett Thomas, from Danny Foerster, the Demize once again fell on a late goal by an opponent. The team played a man down from the 21st minute when Ous Senghore was given a second yellow, and the resultant red card ejection, for a hand ball in the box.

Wednesday's game is against the Thunder Bay Chill, a game rescheduled due to rain earlier this month. The Chill moved into a tie for 1st place in the Heartland Division with a 2-0 win over the Kansas City Brass Monday night, with 22 points in 9 games played.

Southwest All-Stars Play Tonight

The 4th Annual Southwest All-Stars game will be played this evening at Lake Country Soccer, field #1.

Girls game at 6:00 pm
Boys game at 8:00 pm

First played in December 2004, the game is dedicated to recognizing High School seniors who have exhibited skill and leadership on the pitch.

PDL Soccer: Colorado Rapids U23 Sweep Springfield Demize

The Demize lost the second game on their road trip to Colorado on Sunday 1-2, narrowing the gap significantly compared to Saturday's match. Zach Prince sparks Rapids U-23 in win according the the Boulder Daily Camera, who noted:

Springfield broke through for its first goal in the weekend series in the 71st minute when substitute forward Nebossa Osaic flicked the ball into the goal after a Demize corner kick.

All-Stars To Reassemble Thursday June 26th

Well, as at least one fan noted, I probably jinxed us tonight with my earlier post about a little rain not stopping us. After our third delay due to lightning, we called the girls game this evening shortly before 8pm with only one half completed. The feedback of the players and the fans is the games must be played so we have rescheduled both the girls and boys games for next Thursday, June 26th.

On the strength of a 70th minute goal by Brandon Swartzendruber, the Chill earned the first win of their short season while keeping the Demize winless tonight. Springfield opened the scoring in the 20th minute, after several early opportunities as Isreal Bisoni was able to get into the box on the right side.

The game opened quickly Saturday night, when the Rapids Jacob Schmoker snuck a quick one past the Demize inside 5 minutes. The Rapids struck again in the 27th minute when Jeremy "JT" Howlan responded to being dispossessed in the offensive end by pursuing the defender and winning the ball back.

The good news? The hometown boys broke into the scoring column in the first half, tying the game in the 40th minute providing some positive momentum before the break. The goal, scored by Nebjosa Opacic on a header in close, was the first of the season in three games.

Springfield Demize Open PDL Soccer Season This Saturday

The Springfield Demize, who compete in the Professional Development League (PDL), comparable to Single A baseball while allowing College players to retain their eligibility, begin their second season at Cooper Soccer Complex this Saturday May 10th. The team will play a 16-game season, with 8 home games, concluding in late July.

Weekend Update

The Springfield Demize held a raucous Spring Exhibition match against the Tony Glavin-led St Louis Lions on Saturday evening at the Cooper Soccer Complex. The game score was 4-2 in favor of the Demize when I left around 7:30pm when my camera batteries finally expired after attending four games Saturday.
