Marcio Fires Persela Top

1
You don't expect Persik to get much on their travels, especially when they are shorn of their leading scorer Christian Gonzalez, and last night was n o exception as they got beat 2-0 by Persela at a poorly lit Surajaya Stadium in Lamongan.

Giving away free kicks on the edge of the area is never a good idea when you have Marcio Souza ready to have a pop but the Persik defence did it time and time again. Click to continue reading...

Persela's Samba

2
Lamongan will never be known as a football hotbed yet today their football team sits atop the ISL looking down on more established names like Arema, Persik and Persib. And this despite starting the season with a 5-2 tonking by Persib.

Much of Persela's progress, I hesitate to use the word success because they have nothing, is down to Brazilian import Marcio Souza now in his third season with the side from the north coast of East Java. Click to continue reading...

Kerlon, the Seal Dribbler

8
Full name Kerlon Moura Souza. This Brazilian became popular with his signature move "seal dribble" that piss off the defenders as well as the the opponents' coaches. Kerlon gets all the beating, literally, when he does his "seal dribble". Seal dribble is hard to defend since the defenders find it hard to tackle. Click to continue reading...

Pelita Jaya's First Defeat

7
Fandi Ahmad's Pelita Jaya suffered their first defeat of the season last night in the ISL when a Marcio Souza free kick, his fifth goal of the season, was enough to give the home side Persela three points.

First half the visitors seemed content to play long with little success and while they changed things around a bit at half time, with captain Firman Utina being replaced, up front they threatened little with Cristian Lopes looking isolated. Click to continue reading...

Souza seals group stage berth for Panathinaikos

0
Summer signing Rodrigo Souza was the lone scorer in Panathinaikos' 1-0 win over Sparta Prague tonight in Athens. Leaving it late, Panathinaikos won the game as they did a fortnight ago to end Sparta Prague's Champions League run prematurely. A must-win game for the visitors was level until Souza tallied Click to continue reading...

Persela Go Second

0
Sorry PSIS lost again yesterday, 2-0 against Persela thanks to two more goals from Brazilian import Marcio Souza.

In yesterday's other game Persitara's recent fine form against Persib came to an end as they lost 2-0 at an empty Siliwangi Stadium.

Two straight wins for the Bandung side means coach Jaya Hartono can breathe a bit easier. Click to continue reading...

Persipura Go Clear

0
The Black Pearls from Jayapura brushed aside Persitara 3-0 last night to move three points clear at the top of the ISL with 10 points from four games.

Elsewhere Persela beat Persita 1-0 in a game where Marcio Souza did not, I repeat did not score. Persiba beat poor old Deltras 2-1 and the Sidoarjo club, shorn of stars Pronetto, Hilton and Jose Sebastian are rooted at the bottom of the table. Click to continue reading...

Namesakes: Souza

7
The most talented Souza was called in Russia "de Souza". His full name is Jose Ivanildo de Souza, and he was actually the one to wake the Russian football up. He played for Krylia Sovetov. After having returned to Brazil he played for Flamengo, and now is the heart of America of his native Natal. Williamis de Souza Silva is very talented too, as far as he wears a jersey number 10 in Sao Paulo and is a candidate to Brazilian National Team. Click to continue reading...

Souza vs. Dunga

1
Dunga disliked the fact that Sao Paulo's playmaker Souza criticized in the press the practice of Dunga's preferring players who play in Europe to those who play at home. Souza himself was one of the candidates for the national team, but after those words Dunga in the worst soviet traditions virtually closed the door to country's main team for the talented player. The top goals from Wednesday's Champions League action

7
Here are my picks for the top strikes from yesterday. Click on the link to see the clip. Cheers.

1. Ranger's Charlie Adam with a curling strike in the box that eludes the Stuttgart keeper.

2. Fenerbahçe's Deivid de Souza with a superb effort reminiscent of Zidane's swinging kick goal a few years back.

3. Simone Perrotta puts AS Roma up 1-0 on Dynamo Kiev with a difficult header off a cracker of a cross from Max Tonetto. Click to continue reading...
