MLS tries to bully Silverbacks, block sale of Kandji to Red Bulls

8
Soccer by Ives is reporting that MLS has blocked the Red Bulls' purchase of Macoumba Kandji from the Silverbacks. Get the details here...

I think MLS really, really screwed up here. Who cares what league a quality player is in? Why should the fact that he's playing in the USL matter as to his value? Click to continue reading...

Bruce Arena Gets Officially Introduced as our New Coach Today, 11:00

10

Soccer by Ives is reporting that Bruce Arena gets his official introduction today as Galaxy coach today at 11:00. And he's bringing Dave Sarachan with him as his assistant.

What does this mean for Cobi? I have no clue, aside from Ives' assertion that "Cobi Jones is expected to remain on the Galaxy coaching staff.

Binks Reinstated (NJSEA Abuse v. ESC Part II)

0

As previously reported, Red Bulls Fan of the Year Thomas Binkley (aka "Binks") was banned for life from Giants Stadium by the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority for allegedly throwing some "f" bombs and exhibiting "threatening" behavior. To throw further salt in the wounds, it landed just before the Barcelona game.

The Cobi Jones Era Has Begun & an Online Poll: Who do You Think Should be the Next Galaxy Coach

7

Cobi Jones faced the media for the first time Tuesday as the Galaxy's interim coach.

Jones said kinder things about predecessor Ruud Gullit than some of the players I talked to Tuesday. And he was saying all the right things as far as former GM Alexi Lalas was concerned, too:

"It's a loss of someone that was very dedicated to this club and this organization, not only the Galaxy but AEG.

Rapids Acquire Gibbs

We're still waiting to hear the official word on this one. Soccer By Ives is reporting that LA Galaxy has passed on Corey Gibbs with the Colorado Rapids, next in line on the MLS' allocation list, exercising their pick and taking Gibbs. More Quakes-Galaxy Analysis

But not here. Well, not precisely.

What I mean is that my column over at Soccer By Ives is now up. So in a fit of self-pimping, I'm linking to it.

Read and comment, there or here.

Also, consider this an open thread for any and all Galaxy/MLS/futbol conversations.

Intro And All That

2

Before I do anything else on this blog, I'd like to take a minute to say hi and do a quick introduction.

A little while ago Laurie invited me to be a part of this blog, which I can only imagine is a bout of temporary insanity, but before she gets wise and boots me off the blog, I'm going to take the liberty to post up thoughts and analysis on the Galaxy.

LA Galaxy Offside, Version 2.0

Several folks have commented on the deadness of this blog. Many apologies! But the good news is that we're bringing the blog back to life, better than ever.

From here on out, I'm going to be joined on this page by three co-bloggers who I think will be able to provide interesting, insightful and somewhat irreverent commentary on our beloved team.

Boomerang: Pat Noonan

4
Soccer By Ives is reporting that Pat Noonan is on his way back to MLS. Is this the quickest boomerang to date? I guess European soccer in Norway isn't all it is cracked up to be. I wonder if as the league expands, MLS will be able to use more stories like this one to highlight why young Americans should stay in MLS as opposed to trying out second and third tier European soccer? MLS All-Star Gameday

2

The MLS All-Star Game airs live at 4 p.m. on ESPN from Toronto where the inaugural visit of David Beckham is naturally the big story (the natives have missed out on seeing Golden Balls twice before).

Our own Scott Wolf though is singularly unimpressed with Becks' effect on the sport so far.

Good Riddance: Reyna Retires

As first reported on Soccer By Ives, Claudio Reyna is finally doing the right thing and retiring.......thus allowing the Red Bulls to purchase a player with his vacant DP spot.
