The Story Behind Arshavin’s “Slavery”

2
A couple weeks ago Andrei Arshavin's agent went on a bit of a tirade, joining the masses suffering from skewed perception and labeled his client a "slave". We all know Andrei, just like Cristiano Ronaldo, is not a slave - it was simply agent speak, more commonly known as "bullshit" - but we didn't know [. Click to continue reading...

Au Revoir, Lilian (OR: Why I’ll Always Love Thuram)

2

There's a fair amount of France news, but I'm finding that I can't focus on anything else until I do a tribute to one of my all-time favorite players (probably second only to Zizou), Lilian Thuram.

As you probably know by now, Thuram officially retired a little over a week ago because of that recently-diagnosed heart defect.

Arshavin, the next slave of European soccer

0
Boo hoo, poor Andrei Arshavin, he has a successful year for Zenit St. Petersburg and low and behold they actually want to hold him to the contract he signed. I know that this isn't the best writing that I've done, but I'm sorry what a load of crap. According to this article on Fox Sports, Arshavin's agent claims that he too is being treated like a slave because he can't move onto to the club of his choice in Western Europe. Cristiano Ronaldo Staying, and That’s the End of That

2
It's officially officially over. After nearly two months of speculation involving insane sums of money (€100m transfer fee, £200,000 per week wages) and of course Sepp Blatter's awesomely ill-advised slavery quote, Cristiano Ronaldo is staying at Manchester United. Alex Ferguson says so (he always did), Ramon Calderon says so (in so many words) and now Cristiano [. Click to continue reading...

Enough!

2

The endless transfer rumors do my head in. Honestly, haven't they gotten out of hand the past few years? From Zinedine Zidane and David Beckham's hilarious annoyance of a few years ago to Cristiano Ronaldo's supposed slavery this summer, haven't we had enough? (Common thread here? Real Madrid ... hmm .

Logan's Revenge Back With a, Erm, Vengence

1
The most unexpected thing to happen while I was on holiday last week was not Blanco's freak out, nor was it Sepp Blatter's slavery comments, or the Superliga share-cropping revelation. It was the long overdue return of Not Doug Logan. Before there was MLS Underground and The Blog Who Shall Not Be Linked to, there was Logan's Revenge spilling beans and dropping scoop all over a Blogspot page. Click to continue reading...

Could Sepp Blatter Have Said Anything Sillier?

2
If you though Sepp Blatter's "modern day slavery" quote was ridiculous, wait til you see what he's saying in our latest football comic from Chris Toy. The scary thing is that nothing that comes out of the Seppster's mouth surprises us anymore. Click on Sepp's crazy face, or click here to read what Sepp has to say. Click to continue reading...

Blame Blatter, Not C-Ron

3
Now we've all had time to recover from Sepp Blatter comparing Cristiano Ronaldo's five six figure contract at Man Utd to modern say slavery, it's probably time we put the whole thing in perspective. Blatter has rightly been laughed at/criticized/committed to a mental institution for his ridiculous comparison. Click to continue reading...

A simple message for Sepp Blatter and Cristiano Ronaldo

6

I have to admit when I first read the comments from Sepp Blatter to Sky News, I did a double take. When I read them again, I was pretty much speechless. But a speechless blog is pretty much a worthless blog so after chewing on Blatter's words I came up with the only logical thing I could say...

Seppy Baby, SHUT UP!

Pele's reaction to Cristiano Ronaldo

3
Thankfully, we still have the great Pele around to provide some rationality to the whole situation with Cristiano Ronaldo and Sepp Blatter's comments on slavery. At this point it probably would be in Manchester United's best interests to sell Ronaldo for as much as they can get and go after a player such as Dimitar Berbatov as I it seems like the Manchester United fans won't react positively to Ronaldo and if he really doesn't want to play for them what is the point in keeping an unmotivated player. Manchester United star agrees with mentalist football Svengali, I wonder why!?!?

1
The sickly sweet 2-man mutual appreciation society that consists of Cristiano Ronaldo and football bigwig Sepp Blatter continues to grow stronger by the day. This time Ronaldo has declared that Blatter's suggestion that modern footballers contracts are tantamount to slavery is bang on the money: "I agree with the statements . Click to continue reading...

Blatter: Ronaldo being treated like a slave

Count Sepp Blatter as one person who would like Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Manchester United for Real Madrid. The FIFA president likened Ronaldo's situation as being comparable to slavery while speaking to Sky News. If the player wants to play... Click to continue reading...

Slavery in Soccer? I Don’t Think So

0
It's amusing how the term "slavery" gets thrown around these days. In November of 2003, Rasheed Wallace compared the NBA's Zero-Tolerance policy concerning arguing with referees to slavery. "That's retarded," the eloquent Wallace opined. "In my mind, it's kind of like a slave and master or father and son. Click to continue reading...

Cristiano Ronaldo Confirms His Serfdom

2
Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed he is a slave at Man Utd. When asked if he remembers signing his five year contract paying him $60,000,000, he responded that he was, as we all suspected, drugged, starved and beaten into agreeing terms. Says the EPL Footballer of the Year, "I agree with the statement of the president [Sepp Blatter], he is right. Click to continue reading...

It's A Disgrace

1
I texted Luton Andy today.

Remember him?

He is a friend of my lover and a Woking fan. He is also a major Hatter's fan (hence the name).

My text said:

"Just heard the news. 30 points! It's a disgrace. Hope life is better for you in other regards. Georgina. Click to continue reading...

FIFA Head Calls Millionaire Players "Slaves"

1
Sometimes people say things that are so outrageous, so absurd, I, on simmer, am compelled to re-read what they said and then immerse myself in water to cleanse my precious body of the horrible words that have been swallowed. This morning, while eating delicious Cheerios (TM) for breakfast, was one such occasion. Click to continue reading...

Sepp Blatter launches ‘Kick slavery out of football’ campaign

0
LOONY FIFA president Sepp Blatter has today called for club owners to boot slavery out of football. Blatter claimed there is too much ‘modern slavery' in football and vowed to fight for the freedoms of footballers everywhere who are forced to kick a ball around every Saturday for just £30,000-£150,000 per week. Millwall Fans and Slavery - Follow-up

6
Yesterday, we looked at a seemingly odd story about Millwall fans and their complaints about a friendly with Sierra Leone being used to commemorate the abolition of slavery. I emailed Pete Garston, the Millwall Fan Director, to follow-up on the issue. Rather than adding my own editorial stance, I'd rather let Pete's words speak for [...] Click to continue reading...

Millwall Fans and Slavery

3
A very odd story today came to my attention today about Millwall fans and a game to commemorate the abolition of slavery (found via The Offside): Millwall fans are ready to boycott their club's friendly against Sierra Leone at The Den next month because it is being held to commemorate the bicentenary of the abolition of [...] Click to continue reading...
