Goals of 2008

1
Our friend Climbingtheladder on YouTube has put together the top 10 Wizards goals of the season. I can't say that I'll argue with any of the 10. There are some pretty tidy scores in this bunch:

Vote Davy for GOTW/C-Bus Bus

0
Yesterday I was remiss in reminding you all that Davy Arnaud is up for Sierra Mist Goal of the Week for his second-half strike against New England that turned out to be the game-winner. Well played Davy (and Claudio and Roger, for that matter).

Watch it, then vote for it:

I also wanted to let our loyal readers know that the front office is organizing a bus trip to Columbus for Leg 2 on Nov. Click to continue reading...

Sierra Mist Goal of the Year

2
We're on quite a roll over the past few weeks with Sierra Mist Goal of the Week nominations and wins, and it's about time to start thinking about the Sierra Mist Goal of the Year award. We already have two Wizards nominated automatically by virtue of winning the Goal of the Week honor (Davy Arnaud's upper-90 bomb in week 25 and Josh Wolff's spectacular bicycle kick in week 27). Harrington up for Goal of the Week

0
This is becoming a pretty regular post here at Hillcrest Road. Michael Harrington is this week's nominee, so go vote often! Harrington collected a ball on the left from Josh Wolff, cut inside his defender and bent the ball just inside the right upright with his right foot in the 48th minute to tie the game 1-1. Due "Propers"

0
So we found out two nifty things here today. First off, Josh Wolff won Sierra Mist Goal of the Week for his splendiforous bicycle kick last Saturday at Chivas USA. Well done Wolffie.

Second, Cauldron member Mike and his blog Down the Byline have been recognized by The Pitch as the best sports blog in Kansas City. Click to continue reading...

Wolff up for Goal of the Week

0
Alright folks, for the third straight week we have a Wizards player nominated for the Sierra Mist Goal of the Week award. This time, it was Josh Wolff's second-half bicycle kick that got the nod. He's currently out in front in voting, ahead of that Toronto FC man Marvell Wynne. Let's keep him there! For those who didn't read the post-game post, it was Wolffie's first bicycle kick in a competitive match since he was 16. Click to continue reading...

Tough Loss, Good Effort

1
We looked good for long stretches but couldn't get that final goal (though the foul call certainly didn't help) to pull back level with Chivas USA. After big wins for Real Salt Lake and Colorado Rapids, the East isn't assured of five playoff teams anymore. Read the last sentence from the press release to see how things stack up now. Souter up for Goal of the Week

3
From the Wizards open tryout back in February to the Sierra Mist Goal of the Week list. Since the game was on HDNet, we can't imbed the goal from QuickKicks, but take a look at it on this page and then vote for our favorite Scot, Kevin Souter. Great work buddy, we're proud of you. The Don Gets Some Love/Davy Wins GOTW

1
Those of you who read The Offside Rules daily have already seen this, but The Don, our great commissioner Mr. Don Garber, was recognized by Time Magazine as the 14th-best sporting executive of the last year. Number 1? KU Athletics Director Lew Perkins. Read about them here.

Also, Davy's rocket from last Saturday beat out some pretty good goals from Ronnie O'Brien, Kenny Cooper, Steve Ralston and Carl Robinson to win the Sierra Mist Goal of the Week award. Click to continue reading...

Davy for GOTW

0
We all knew it would be, and now it is. Davy Arnaud's lazer beam right-footer is up for Sierra Mist Goal of the Week over at MLSnet.com. Only problem is that a Toronto FC player is nominated too, and we all know how well TFC supporters can stuff the ballot box. Come on KC Wiz fans, show TFC who's boss this week, then our boys will show them on Saturday. Click to continue reading...

Take a look at the goal here, if you don't remember it:

Arnaud up for GOTW

0
Davy Arnaud scored his first goal of the season, taking a long pass from Kurt Morsink behind the New York defense and scoring past Jon Conway into the middle of the goal. The goal turned out to be the game-winner after Angel brought one back for NY later in the second half. Go vote for Davy here.

INVESTIGATION: Did ESPN Make A Mistake or Did MLS Rig The Goal Of The Week Vote?

?

It was interesting watching tonight's MLS Primetime Thursday match of DC United at New England Revolution.
The game itself was pretty interesting but even more intriguing was finding out that David Beckham scored the Sierra Mist Goal of The Week. Which is quite interesting since as of the time of this posting MLSNet still has their page declaring another British import, Colorado's Tom McManus the Goal of The Week Winner. Conrad up for GOW/Hartman Makes Best XI

0
Conrad's third header of the season has been nominated for Goal of the Week. I still love seeing Marinelli place the ball perfectly at the near post as Conrad/Victorine getting their defenders in a bind. Perfectly executed corner kick that was! Vote for GOW here.

Hartman was named to Ives Galarcep's Best XI for the week after a 7-save performance against New York at the weekend. Click to continue reading...
