Shirt Legend: Liverpool (home)

0
It's been a long time, folks. Almost a year has passed since our last Shirt Legend poll which aimed to find out what you thought was the best ever Scotland home shirt since 1964.

At the time of writing, 369 of you have registered your vote and the most favoured Scotland shirt so far is the one worn during the 1978 World Cup. Click to continue reading...

Obscure Kits From British Football History #8

7
Tottenham Hotspur (away)
1977 - 1980

As the title suggests, this occasional series plucks the most obscure football kit designs from the history of the sport and puts them under the microscope for all to see (and indeed laugh at).

One trend we've noticed since we started this series is that many of these long-forgotten obscurities were originally made by Admiral. Click to continue reading...

Robinho Not Coming, But Chelsea Selling Robinho Shirts Anyway

3
According to Real Madrid, Robinho is going nowhere, and that includes Chelsea. Think it's safe to say that Real's failure to sign David Villa from Valencia has a lot to do with it. Real won't let Robinho go unless they have a suitable replacement. And so if Robinho fails to arrive at Stamford Bridge, then Chelsea [. Click to continue reading...

In the meantime, we'd like to conduct a short interactive survey on a not dissimilar topic - that of football kits. Click to continue reading...

Obscure Kits From British Football History #7

3
Aberdeen (home)
1976-1979

When you go into business as a football kit manufacturer, the chances are you'll produce some designs that prove very popular with the supporters and some that will turn out to be absolute stinkers. No maker of football kits can ever claim to have hit the bullseye with every design, but if they at least come up with something original, they'll at least have achieved something. Obscure Kits From British Football History #6

1
Sunderland (home)
1981-1983

We've talked before about how some teams are synonymous with a particular look to the kit they wear. Many teams prefer a bold strip of just one colour (think Real Madrid and Liverpool), others like to wear hoops (a la Queens Park Rangers and Sporting Lisbon) while a distinct minority have adopted an interesting half-an-half appearance (such as Feyenoord and Blackburn Rovers). Never let it be said that the universities of the world don't waste a single moment of their valuable academically-charged time. Stick your 39th game... t-shirt from Football365

The gang at Football365 are just as up in arms as us here at Pies about the Premier League's ridiculous idea to play a 39th round of match abroad. Unlike us, Football365 has access to a sweatshop manned 24/7 by orphan orang-utans trained in the art of slogan t-shirt production. Kit Parade: Manchester United's 1950s kit

5
Manchester United donned a special 1950s-style shirt for yesterday's derby defeat to Manchester City in honour of the Munich air disaster. The club ditched its crest and the logo of sponsors AIG to remember the Busby Babes killed in the crash on February 6, 1958. The shirt - modelled here by Cristiano Ronaldo - is not going on sale to the public so any United fans wanting to recreate the look will have to buy retro or try the Fredi Kanoute approach and tape up the sponsor's logo. A sign of kits to come?

26
It has recently come to our attention that Adidas, that bastion of sports apparel for so many years, has... well... how can we put it... adopted a corporate policy of giving free hallucinogenics to all its employees.

If you don't believe us, take a look at this shirt currently being worn by French rugby union club Stade Francaise. Click to continue reading...

Obscure Kits From British Football History #5

Crystal Palace (home)
1971/1972 season

When it comes to football kits, there are only so many different designs you can create which are simple, distinguished and can last the test of time. Whoever it was that decided black and white stripes were a winning combination must still be receiving royalties from Juventus, Newcastle United, Botafogo and many other clubs to this day. Shirts for 2007/08: Aston Villa (away / 2nd)

Yes folks, we're nearly there. Only two teams remain unfeatured in our look at some of the new shirts on show this Premier League season, and today's penultimate offering is the Aston Villa away shirt:

Just when you thought the pinstripe was dead, here it is again in all its glory. (Actually this isn't the only shirt you'll see paying homage to the pinstripe - Umbro's new Northern Ireland away shirt is a tribute to the one worn in the 1982 World Cup and made by Adidas, curiously enough, but we digress. Newcastle United's sponsor - on the rocks?

Yet more news from the business world following last week's story about QPR being taken over by two Formula 1 bosses. This week it's something altogether more sinister as UK bank Northern Rock loses more than half its value on the Stock.Exchange.

It's prompted many of its customers to queue up outside high street branches of the bank in the hope of withdrawing much of their money. Click to continue reading...

News reached us last week that Queens Park Rangers are about to be bought out by Formula 1 motor racing bosses Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone for £14 million.
