Damien Delaney on life at QPR:
"...There's a lot of pressure...Our owners, they're very successful people in other walks of life, in the businesses that they're involved in, and believe you me they expect an awful lot of success in this one as well. The first day that I signed, I was told in no uncertain terms that promotion was expected and either you're with us or you won't be. Click to continue reading...

Olympic Football Tournament: Argentina 2 - 0 Serbia

6
Argentina rounded off their Olympic Football Tournament group campaign with an academic defeat of Serbia on Wednesday. Having already qualified for the quarter-finals, Sergio Batista rested Juan Román Riquelme, Javier Mascherano and (to the disappointment of a Chinese crowd who'd turned up specially to see him) Lionel Messi, and was rewarded with a 2-0 win [. Australia Argentina: This one could hurt.

1
Big game tonight. Can Arnie's defence hold out? and perhaps more importantly can we create....anything!

Australia earned a point, outplayed generally by Serbia in the opening game, but yet if the fastly improving Billy Celeski had scored rather than unluckily hit the post we would surely have won. Click to continue reading...

Out-passed and out-classed, but the Olyroos survive

1
Beijing Games opener analysis, Olyroos 1 v Serbia 1 GIVEN the context of an average performance, Thursday night's 1-1 result with Serbia was just about as good as it could have been for the Olyroos, and at least keeps them alive. What the game demonstrated above all else was the significant gap in technical "on-the-ball" ability between the two sets of players. Click to continue reading...

Elsewhere in China

The United States-Japan match was not the only one played on Thursday, though it may have seemed like it. In fact, the US wasn't the only CONCACAF nation to kick off their quest for gold either.

But Honduras didn't fare quite as well as the Americans.

Italy routed Honduras 3-0. Click to continue reading...

half time 0-0, and no points for free to air TV rubbish

0
So much for free to air TV riding into football. Here they are the Olympics are on, a game Australia has every chance of winning (Serbia) and its on delay telecast. Meaning hardly any kids will get to see the match - putting free-to-air behind Foxtel for accessibility.

Three cheers for the ABC radio who have it live with their best commentators on it. Click to continue reading...

Olympics start tonight for Olyroos

0
9pm on delay on Prime. What can you expect from such a station?

Still, Australia will open the Under 23 World Cup still known by some as the Olympics against Serbia in the Men's football tonight. Nikolai Topor-Stanley, the former Tuggeranong Junior is a certain starter. With Argentina the next opposition we need at least a point or a win to have a hope of going through th group of death. Olyroo expectations lessen by the game, and word

2
HAVING suffered three warm-up losses on the spin to China, Japan and South Korea, at least the talk of an Olyroos medal at the Beijing Games, which kick-off with Thursday's opener against Serbia, has stopped. In truth, having drawn one of the toughest groups and in a tournament featuring players of the ilk of Riquelme, Messi, Aguero, Mascherano, Kalou, Diego, Pato, Ronaldinho, Kompany, Click to continue reading...

Domenech stays on

0
Raymond Domenech continues on as the manager of the French national team and that is a huge mistake. The time has come for a change at that position and Didier Deschamps is and was the person to take over and lead the team through the 2010 World Cup qualifiers. It seems like there are a lot of politics at play in this decision, but ultimately the right decision for the team must be made and that would have been to go ahead with Deschamps.
