Why isn't Argentine staying in England?

Reds on Loan: Leto Scores in Europe

6
One of the major reasons for which Liverpool chose Olympiakos as Sebastian Leto's destination for a year on loan was the possibility of the Argentine winger to play in the Champions League.

That didn't last long with the Greeks knocked out at the final qualifying round. Still, there's still the UEFA Cup as consolation and Leto has started that in brilliant fashion scoring the second in Olympiakos' 2-0 away win at FC Nordsjaelland. Click to continue reading...

Loan Move for Liverpool Winger

7
Liverpool's Argentine winger Sebastian Leto could be set for a loan move back home with River Plate. Ole' is reporting that the new River boss Diego Simeone is unhappy with the quality of his left midfielders and has suggested Leto's name as a potential re-inforcement.

Earlier in the week it looked as if Leto, along with Nabil El Zhar, was all set for a loan move to Spanish club Racing Santander but that deal doesn't look like going through after the Racing president Francisco Pernia revealed that they were looking for more experienced players. Kids watch: Anderson returns, Leto back for mini-derby, Threlfall returns to Anfield, & more

11
Paul Anderson is expected to be back on the pitch for Swansea today when the Swans take on Northampton in a League One fixture. The 19-year-old winger suffered a slight knock on the knee against Hartlepool last Tuesday and missed his club's FA Cup draw at Horsham last Friday. The Swans still sit atop the League One table though by game-in-hand, Nottingham Forest could overtake them with just a draw and Carlisle United both could surpass them with a win. Today's Banter: Hyypia backs Rafa, Rafa vows Reading Cup changes, Rafa frustrated over Gerrard, & more

1
- Sami Hyypia has been the latest star player at the club to vocally back his boss' rotation policy. The 33-year-old Finnish International has deemed Rafa's tinkering critics 'silly'. I've actually been thinking a lot about the pros and cons of Benitez' ways and will write a post with my conclusion later today. Meanwhile there are talks of Hyypia getting either a contract extension now or a new contract offer at the end of the season when his current one runs out. Click to continue reading...

Anfield Banter: Xabi & Agger injured, Riise fit though, Leto stars in Reserves win, & more

1
- Both Danny Agger and Xabi Alonso will be out up to six weeks with foot injuries. With Riise declared fit for our upcoming Birmingham match at Anfield on Saturday, we should be fine, but once again after seemingly getting out of depth issues concerning our backline, we're nearly right back where we started from. Aurelio coming back is a huge boost as Arbeloa will no longer be needed to share duty on the left. Click to continue reading...

International Round-Up

2

Well, today is the day plenty of Liverpool fans will dread. Frankly, the thought that one of our first-teamers could pick up an injury whilst away on international duty is worrying, but with the sheer number of players away, it is increasingly likely.

Pepe Reina is away with Spain, and after last month's appearance in the friendly with Greece, there is a possibility he may start for the Spaniards.

Pennant for England? Maybe not…

0

Yes. Hello Again. Well, Ed and I have decided to alternate posts to every other day so I don't trip over him on the stairs.

And I'd like to comment first on his post from earlier today. Well-written, admittedly, but I sorta disagree with what he was saying. Pennant was only decent against Derby because it was Derby. Sami Hyypia could have hit quality crosses from the left-wing against that defence.

'Hand of God' gets Middlesborough Reserves a draw, Paul Anderson scores for Swansea

5
According to the match report on the official site, the Middlesborough Reserves side featuring Gaizka Mendieta and Lee Cattermole needed a 'Hand of God' a la Diego Maradona goal to draw 1-1 with our Reserves. Our goal was scored by Ray Putterill from the spot after a handball was called on Boro defender Jonathan Grounds in the box. Apparently Sebastian Leto was unstoppable and Lucas Leiva put in a solid match as well, but we were either unlucky or sloppy on our finishes. Click to continue reading...

Liverpool 4, Toulouse 0

3

I'm not sure whether I should try to watch this match again, the final score almost says it all though it could have been worse for the French side. Toulouse sort of dug their own grave from the get-go by coming out with all guns blazing. That's not how you're going to beat Liverpool, even a weakened squad, all it's gonna do is wear yourself out and that's exactly what happened.

Liverpool 1, Toulouse 0: halftime thoughts

3

Wow, after the first leg, I don't think anyone could have predicted such an entertaining first half. It hasn't exactly been good football, but with both sides missing key players, that should be expected. The ebb and flow at times though, has been heart-stopping.

The most impressive aspect is how we've seemed to figure out our attack so quickly.

Liverpool vs Toulouse II: the line-up

3

Leto to start!!! Now I'm freakin' pumped for a match I was otherwise dreading. If Leto plays as well as he did in the preseason, this should be a hella fun match to watch. The kid has the ability to wreak havoc on opposing defenses almost at will. Lucas Leiva will also be on the bench in a true show of the kind of depth our squad contains.

Here's the line-up:
Reina
Riise
Hyypia
Agger
Arbeloa
Leto
Sissoko
Mascherano
Benayoun
Kuyt
Crouch

Subs:
Itandje
Finnan
Torres
Alonso
Pennant
Babel
Lucas

I hope Mascherano will be on attack and Sissoko will sit back, but it really depends if Momo is tired or not.

Liverpool vs Toulouse II: What will Rafa do?

3

Apparently both teams will be missing their respective captains as well as other key players, but this being at Anfield and Liverpool being clearly the superior squad, the Reds should win this one and advance to the group stages of the Champions' League. With that being said though, stranger things have happened. Anyhow, on to the squad.

In goal, probably Reina, though I suspect Itandje will get a start at some point before League Cup or FA Cup ties start.

Liverpool vs Sunderland: What will Rafa do?

8

The most obvious thing Rafa will do is start the players who did not participate in mid-week international friendlies which was Carragher, Arbeloa, Pennant, and apparently Sissoko. As far as I know, Momo did not play for Mali against Burkina Faso. I can also seem him playing players who did not play the full matches for their country, which includes Kuyt, Babel, Torres, Alonso, and Finnan.

Liverpool vs Toulouse: What will Rafa do?

10

Well, Jermaine Pennant and Harry Kewell will definitely not be in the line-up, that's for sure. JP was given a rest and Harry Kewell is injured again, shocking, I know. The question is, did Rafa bring any youngsters and if so, is he going to play any of them? Looking at who's not on loan at the moment, I can definitely see Emiliano Insua, Robbie Threlfall, Stephen Darby, Gabriel Paletta, Nabil El Zhar, Lucas Leiva, and possibly even Anthony Le Tallec seeing time here.

Anfield Banter: Musical keeps & Leto deal complete

2

Nothing much really going on, which is only making the excruciatingly painful wait for the season to start even more excruciating. T-minus 22 hours until take-off.

In a not-so-big surprise, we've sent Scott Carson out on loan to Aston Villa for somewhere around £2m apparently with an option for them to buy him at the end of next season for an additional £10.
