El Madrid ficha un expediente X

0
Click to continue reading...

It's all uphill from here

0
It's hard to win a game where they score against you in the first few minutes of each half, said Guti, summing up the impotence felt by Real Madrid at Getafe.

More importantly, it illustrates why the recent mini-run of two 1-0 victories (against Recreativo and BATE) was a mirage and bodes extremely badly for the next lot of league games against the top-placed teams. Click to continue reading...

Much needed win is scant consolation for more injuries

0
There were a few positives for Real Madrid following the weekend's action in la Liga. A win against Recreativo de Huelva when the top three teams all dropped points means Real Madrid climbed to second place, three points behind leaders Barcelona.

It was also the first clean sheet since the 2-0 away win at Racing back in September, and, surprisingly, Real Madrid is now the best home side in the league, with sixteen points out of a possible eighteen. Click to continue reading...

Irún puts Real Madrid in intensive care

0
The word crisis, whispered in the last few weeks, has now reached a crescendo at the Bernabéu, as Real Madrid were knocked out of the Copa del Rey by a third division side. A repeat of the 4-3 weekend scoreline was not enough to subdue a Real Unión de Irún squad that ran rampant for large stretches of the game, as if the venue or their opponents were of no consequence. Capello would be proud

0
You have to feel some sympathy for Bernd Schuster. That's a strange statement to make about a man in charge of one of the most prestigious football clubs, and the current Spanish championship title holders. However, he faces a long a difficult season with a squad clearly split in half.

The defence, now back to full strength following the return of Ramos and Cannavaro, shows signs of being as confident and solid as in the latter part of last season and has just notched up its second clean sheet in a row. Click to continue reading...

Jerzy Dudek Enjoys His Life In Madrid (Javier Saviola Doesn't).

2

I know it's a couple of days old, but better late than never. Have a look at Jerzy Dudek making fun of Javier Saviola who wasn't aware that there were no substitutions left for Real and prepared to enter the field. Can't the guy count to three?

David Villa to Stay

1

In case you haven't heard, David Villa just signed a contract extension with Valencia and will stay with us until 2014.

Real Madrid made an offer today of € 40 million plus Javi Garcia or Saviola, but Valencia turned them down. There will be a news conference today at the Mestalla to announce the contract signing.

No Official Approach Yet For Saviola

Javier Saviola is said to be a Newcastle target and even Kevin Keegan has said – "that would be nice" when asked about getting him on a season loan. Saviola to Newcastle?

0
It looks as if Kevin Keegan is high on Javier Saviola and a loan from Real Madrid is in negotiations. Read the story here. More argentines in the Premier League is always a good thing and if Newcastle can get this deal done then Saviola will join his fellow countryman Fabricio Collocini at St. James Park. Thoughts from the 2008 Emirates Cup

5
As the season gets closer teams are wrapping up their preseason training. One of the biggest preseason events is the Emirates Cup. This year the cup featured host Arsenal, Hamburg HSV, Juventus, and Real Madrid over the weekend.

Here are some thoughts about the two day event.
  • Hamburg's young mid fielder Jonathan Pitoipa looks like he is going to have a break out year in Germany this year.

Epic Finish

0
Despite playing almost the whole of the second half with 10 men, Real Madrid managed to overturn a 1-0 deficit with less than 10 minutes to go and win their thirty-first league title. It's the first time they have won back-to-back titles since 1990 (though that was the last in a run of five consecutive champioships), when John Toshack was in charge. Click to continue reading...

Just the two of us

0
The number two features highly following the league results at the weekend: two points out of the next four games are all that Real Madrid need to clinch their thirty-first league championship. Two is also the number of teams still in the race, as Barcelona dropped out of contention after going 2-0 in Riazor against Deportivo on Saturday. Click to continue reading...

The Real Madrid and Casillas get close to Cibeles

0
Real Madrid has won and convinced. The Equipment knows clearly that Liga already is hers and today has demonstrated an absolute superiority on the Athletic.

The Bernabeu was a celebration to the great thing and surely the fans happen of there to the Cibeles celebrating Liga who not yet have won, but that with all probability will obtain the week to it that comes the Osasuna as opposed to. Click to continue reading...

Transfer boredom

0
Given the week-long gap between games at this stage of the season, press reports on Real Madrid during the greater part of the week have been concentrating on possible transfer movements during the summer. I normally don't bother reporting 90% of this stuff as it's more often than not concocted out of thin air, so I tend to wait till it's either officially announced, or the buzz is so insistent that there's a good chance it will happen. Paying the price of rotations

0
"We have to think about every player's physical condition in every match", said Bernd Schuster ahead of Sunday's game against newly promoted Valladolid. While not in Rafa Benítez's league when it comes to squad rotations, Schuster was as good as his word and left out Sneijder (replaced by Drenthe). Injuries to Pepe and Metzelder forced Ramos to join Cannavaro in the centre of defence, with Salgado on the right and Marcelo on the left (why not Torres? Click to continue reading...

Sneijder shows his worth

0
It wasn't pretty, but it was a win. That's not a standard summary game review for last season, but a fair reflection of Saturday's outcome against Almería. The newly promoted side set out to prove that their 3-0 season opening win at Deportivo was no fluke and took the game to Real Madrid, who floundered for the first half hour or so.

Saviola, in for Van Nistelrooy who was presumably not 100% after his international duty for the Netherlands, had a goal disallowed for a clear offside before picking up a rebound off the post from a Raúl strike and neatly putting it away. Click to continue reading...

Matches worth watching this week: Liverpool stars square off in two different fixtures

3
Liverpool fans are either cringing in anticipation or eagerly waiting the distraction of their midweek football forsaken boredom, as a plethora of their club's players take the pitch on international duty. Two pair of which have the pleasure of facing one another on Wednesday. Why do I get the feeling we will not see any sort of Rooney-Ronaldo fiasco like we did in the 2006 World Cup? Real Madrid sign Drenthe - is Robben next?

2
Defending Spanish champions Real Madrid signed one of the summer's hottest prospects, wing-back Royston Drenthe from Dutch club Feyenoord. The club did not give the terms of Drenthe's transfer but sports daily AS report that a fee of €13 million (US$18 million) was paid for the Netherlands under-21 player. Drenthe adds depth to the squad as he can play at left-back or in midfield as needed. Click to continue reading...

From Russia with goals

0
Rather than go into details about the two matches Real Madrid played in Moscow, I'll concentrate on a few of the things to take away from the performances we've seen in the preseason so far.

Results-wise, it's not been too bad (the exaggerated 3-0 scoreline against Hannover aside). All the teams faced so far are at least a couple of weeks further along in their preseason training than Real Madrid; this makes a big difference at this stage. Click to continue reading...
