US again defeat Brazil - but at a high cost

The US defeated Brazil for the second time this week, this time at San Diego's Torero Stadium, in their final match before heading off to Beijing. Once again they managed to secure a 1-0 victory - this time via an 84th minute taken by Carli Lloyd and headed in by Natasha Kai. Refs were the story this past weekend in football (American and Euro).

In the Chelsea v. Manchester City match, referee Mark Halsey (left) unfairly gave defender John Terry a red card. His team appealed and Halsey's next assignment is now three divisions lower than the Premiership!

U.S. forward Abby Wambach broke her left leg during the U.S. team's match against Brazil on Wednesday night in San Diego (a 1-0 USA win) and now she will miss the Olympics.

Abby Wambach, the top scorer for the U.S. Women's National Team broke her leg in the final game before the Olympics against Brazil Wednesday in San Diego, and will miss the games in China.

"Obviously, it's devastating, but above everything else, I'm only one player, and you can never win a championship with just one player," said Wambach, a resident of Hermosa Beach.

A Warrior

Tonight I saw history repeated. I saw a real warrior knocked down. In the final USWNT game before departing for China and the Olympics, Abby Wambach broke her leg while trying to score her 100th goal for the USWNT.

Chicago red Stars W-League affiliate clinched the W-league Midwest Division title Sunday with a 2-0 win over Kalamazoo.

Chicago Gaels reduced their magic number for second place in the W-League Midwest Division and a playoff spot with a 1-0 win over Minnesota yesterday.

MLS Expansion - The Vegas odds

The Las Vegas Sun offers up their odds for the 13 cities often mentioned in MLS expansion talks. They are looking at things in a 'how does Vegas' fit in kind of way, but they don't seem to let the homer symptom overly influence their thought process. Anyway, here are their odds:

Atlanta: 100-1
Cleveland: 60-1
Las Vegas: 10-1
Miami: 35-1
Milwaukee: 75-1
New York: 8-1
