Weekend Rewind

0
As I develop this site we'll take a minute to look back over the previous weekend and get some regular themes established.

A royal blue weekend double for me as the Tractorboys got a rare win, romping past Plymouth 3-1, thanks to an Owen Garvan brace and a first in 11 games for Kevin Lisbie. Click to continue reading...

Recap: Bohemians 3 - 0 St Patricks

0
St Patricks travelled across town with the hopes of keeping within touching distance with the league leading Bohemians, but it was not to be on the night as the Bohs dismantled the Saints in the second half with a trio of goals by Mark Rossiter, Glen Crowe and Jason Byrne to open up a 16 point lead. Saints Advance, Sign Spurs Striker

2
Southampton racked up a second win in the Carling Cup. Last week they beat Exter. Yesterday they beat fellow Championship club Birmingham 2-0 at St. Mary's. Lee Holmes and Adam Lallana scored for Saints.

Southampton landed young Tottenham forward Tomas Pekhart on loan for the year. I'm not a huge fan of this move.

Paul Sturrock Has Parkinson's Disease

0
Best of luck to former Saints manager Paul Sturrock. Sturrock, who is currently in his 2nd stint as manager for Plymouth (div 2; Championship), was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. This shouldn't affect his duties, at least not for awhile. He was only in charge at Southampton for a few months but he's not a bad manager. Click to continue reading...

Match Of The Week - St Albans City 1-2 Chelmsford City

0
Throughout my youth, going to watch St Albans City play wasn't something that ordinarily provoked the senses very much. The Saints were experts at finishing somewhere between sixth and seventeenth in the league never unduly troubling the top or bottom of the table. I don't really know how I would have coped with going week [. Click to continue reading...

Who's our mystery new striker

0
We broke the news here yesterday that Berbatov would be leaving White Hart Lane and today the message boards and sport sites are alight with the news that a £28m deal is in the offing.
Despite Ramos's comments that he'd like to keep Berbs at the Lane for at least another season, it seems the club hierarchy have finally had it with Dimitar's sulks and indifferent pre-season form. Click to continue reading...

Southampton's Season Set To Begin Saturday

3
Southampton travel to Cardiff Saturday to kick off their 3rd consecutive season in England's 2nd division. Yes, yes, I know it's called the Championship. But that's just a new label the marketers slapped on the old 2nd division.

Saint's new Dutch manager Jan Poortvliet says the team will be ready.

More Football in Canada Eh?

According to Martin Rogers' latest MLS expansion update from Yahoo! sports, Montreal and Vancouver seem to be two of the frontrunner's for 2011 MLS expansion, with a lot of focus on the City of Saints.

According to the piece, "Joey Saputo, owner of United Soccer League side Montreal Impact, is determined to secure an MLS license and already has some infrastructure in place. Click to continue reading...

Michael Keane of St Patrick's Athletic has been sacked for tucking in too much into the starchy foods. As a teenager, Keane had been tipped for big things after breaking into the first team at Preston North End.He took the tip too literally and went ahead and became bigger and now finds himself too large altogether.

Southampton Pre-Season

2
In the lead up to the 08-09 season, Southampton traveled 20 miles up the road where they defeated Salisbury City 3-0. There were even a couple dozen fans of both teams that managed to create trouble and end up in jail (more here). Jason Euell, Bradley Wright-Phillips and David McGoldrick scored for Saints. Southampton Update

2
Saints still have not come to terms for hiring Jan Poortvliet as their new manager. Their inability to do this doesn't install confidence in me that Lowe's return is bringing much change.

On top of it Southampton is implementing a lot of minor cost cutting measure. Well, minor as long as your not the long time kitman losing their job.

Southampton's loss may be Adam Hammill's gain

10

Word out of Southampton is that the Saints might have to sell some top players in January due to financial difficulties. Southampton Leisure Holdings PLC, the parent company that owns the club in principal, released a statement that hinted at such moves. Apparently the board has decided to reject the proposal from Sisu Capital to purchase the club at 20% of the stock value. Click to continue reading...
