Arsenal - Porto Match Preview

2
Morning all. We've got the Champions League again tonight and I'm pretty excited about it. Not only is European competition great to watch but it gives us another chance to rebound from the defeat to Hull before we play in the league again. It's FC Port tonight, a Portuguese team known for producing great young talents such as Deco, Paulo Ferreira, Ricardo Carvalho, Maniche, Costinha, Benni McCarthy, Jose Bosingwa and Ricardo Quaresma, and won't be an easy match to say the least. Inter Milan 2-1 Catania: Ten-Men Nerazzurri Thanking the O.G.’s… (Serie A Matchday 2)

1
I'll surprise a few by saying this, but this Inter team reminds me a lot of the late 90's Juventus. Not so much with regards to playing style, but with respect to a few other factors. For instance even when their match performance is far from extraordinary, the Nerazzurri manage to rake in 3 points, [. Click to continue reading...

IOSS: “When Wayne Met Fabio”

3
While Jose is back in Milan cuddling with Ricardo Quaresma, we were treated to a one on one between The Boy and Fabio Capello. There were some insightful revelations, like the fact that Fabio loves chip butties and Cash In The Attic (who doesn't?), but Wayne failed to deliver the hard hitting question everyone wants [. Europe’s 10 Most Overpriced Transfers; Or: Prem Transfer Roundup.

22
Sadly, we could've turned this thing into an all-Prem list, but did our best to look elsewhere. Didn't turn out so well. The problem is so many sums paid in the Premiership dwarf that of those in other leagues - Serie A, Bundesliga, La Liga, Ligue 1, etc. - that it can make their normally [...] Click to continue reading...

Ricardo Quaresma Unplugged Intro

7
Nerazzurri Fans may well ask who is this Portuguese wonder boy? What will he add to our club?  What is his style? and will he fill the boots of Luis Figo to become the next midfield magician for Inter?  Comparison to Cristiano Ronaldo is little surprise as Quaresma is yet one more from that current crop of outstanding Portuguese playmakers. 5 Deadline Day Transfers That Caught The Eye

5
You may recall a recent post on Just-Football discussing 5 summer transfers that we considered made good business. Well with the frantic spending that took place on deadline day from clubs around Europe it would almost be rude not to peruse over the goings-on and assess deals that caught the eye, for one reason or other. Liverpool and Everton signings - analysis

9
I don't really know too much about either player that Liverpool and Everton signed on the transfer deadline day, but I'll give my comments based upon what I've read.

Liverpool seemed to get the player they wanted in Albert Riera, a left winger who should provide a lot of ammunition for Fernando Torres, Robbie Keane, and the rest of Liverpool's goal scorers. Click to continue reading...

Ricardo Quaresma to Inter - analysis

5
Well Jose Mourinho finally got his man with the signing of Ricardo Quaresma from Porto. This is a great move for Inter Milan as they needed some younger players to add to their aging squad, and it also give Mourinho a chance to put his own stamp on the squad. I was beginning to wonder when Inter were going to make a really big move. Click to continue reading...

Ricardo Quaresma: On Inter Milan, On the Trivela, On Becoming a Better Player

4
€24.6m (plus bonuses) and the transfer of Vítor Hugo Gomes Paços (Pelé) to Porto: that's how much bringing Ricardo Quaresma to Inter cost Massimo Moratti. In other words: the most expensive Serie A transfer of the year (so far), but based purely on skills the lad seems to be worth every penny. "I am glad [. Click to continue reading...

At which club will Tiago Mendes end up? I hear he only wants a deal with a Champions League contender. And is Hernán Crepos a Mourinho man after all? The Special One Brings Silverware To Internazionale

1
One of the most fascinating moves this summer was Internazionale's hiring of Jose Mourinho as manager after Roberto Mancini was sacked despite winning the title. Mourinho has built a strong reputation in a short time and I am interested to see if he can push Inter further in the Champions League. They've struggled in recent [. Click to continue reading...

The case for Stewart Downing

6
After the drudgery of two awful premiership performances in a row, it is clear that Liverpool need to sign at least one dedicated winger before the transfer deadline. Stewart Downing is once again in the frame but it seems that many fans just don't want him. However, in my view, Downing could be just the player Liverpool need to bring some much needed balance to the team. Click to continue reading...

Rafa Gives Up On Barry And Turns To Portugal's Harry Potter To Give Liverpool Extra Width

11
Liverpool have been linked with a move for a wing wizard nicknamed Harry Potter as they look for alternatives to signing Gareth Barry.

Rafael Benitez is weighing up a bid for Porto star Ricardo Quaresma, but the Anfield club face competition from Italian champions Inter Milan.

Sporting Kid To Chelsea… No Nani or Ronaldo Then?

4
Sporting Lisbon has a good reputation of producing players from their youth system, with Luis Figo, Cristiano Ronaldo, João Moutinho, Nani, Ricardo Quaresma and Miguel Veloso probably the most notable of these. Manchester United have a good relationship with the club, forking out substantial transfer fees for Ronaldo and Nani in recent years. Click to continue reading...

Whats a Mourinho to do?

5
Whats a Mourinho to do when Massimo Moratti won't spend any money like you want him to do? According to this article on Fox Sports, Inter Milan are not going any further into the transfer market and won't be bringing in players like Frank Lampard and Ricardo Quaresma that Jose Mourinho had targeted. I guess Roman Abramovich isn't looking so bad right now. Click to continue reading...

Accordo con Quaresma per l'Inter secondo il quotidiano lusitano "A Bola"

4
Ricardo Quaresma corre verso l'Inter. Click to continue reading...

With the Deco signing finalized, the door for Frank Lampard to move to Inter has been opened. Premiership Talk reported the news last Saturday, well before Chelsea conducted any of their other transfer activity.

Second apology

Wow, the past eight weeks just kind of flew by, now didn't they? Sheesh. Eight weeks being the last time I posted here, there's been so much that's transpired since that I've failed to comment on that I could write a multi-volume encyclopedia on. But I won't. I'm lazy.

Let's touch up on a few things, though, that are worth a mention:

Euro 2008: Day 5

0
Portugal 3-1 Czech Republic
Cristiano Ronaldo and co. have made easy work of the group stages so far. They got off to a good start in this game as well, with an early goal. Ronaldo was played into the box via a one-two with Nuno Gomes; Petr Cech did well to just barely tip the ball away from him, but it fell to Deco and he scrambled it across the goal line. 2008 Euro qualifying Group A match previews: Portugal vs Poland & Serbia vs Finland

Portugal vs Poland, Saturday, 1600 est
Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica - Lisbon

Cristiano Ronaldo and Euzebiusz "Ebi" Smolarek don't have a lot in common. True, they are both attacking midfielders named after famous people, Ronaldo after Ronald Reagan and ironically Smolarek after Portuguese great, Eusébio. They also both like to party, though Cristiano prefers hookers and Ebi is a pot man, but what do expect from young, rich footballers? Click to continue reading...
