Hey, It’s Franklin . . .

0

(any other parents of preschoolers out there?)

Well, this post is better late than never, although it may not be news to you anymore.

Our young defender, from Cal State Northridge of all places, is MLS Rookie of Year! And has been named Rookie of the Year while playing on the worst team in MLS.

Oh, Yes I Did

2

I watched the whole thing.

What, you ask?

Landon's first day of training at Bayern Munich earlier this week.

He looks good. He and Ribery look like they've got a good thing going already.

More news on the Donovan/Bayern Munich front here. (Thanks to David for the heads up and link.

Donovan training with Bayern Munich, Named U.S. POY

1

A busy week for Landon.

On Tuesday he was named U.S. Player of the Year for the fifth time. Tuesday was also his first day of a 10 day training stint with Jurgen Klinsmann's Bayern Munich. Is this an opportunity for Klinsmann to get another look at him and how he might fit into his team?

Internationals

1

Gerrard's first competitive goal for England in 19 months came after a great display from Wayne Rooney. Rooney's really found his form. I'm getting a little bit worried about playing Man-Yoo next time. He later scored two for the squad, but it was Stevie G that fired off the cannon after only 11 minutes.

Afraid of Soccer?

1

An interesting article about Ruud Gullit's perspective on American soccer.  He says that Americans, on the whole, are afraid of soccer growing that American culture doesn't want to give up the supremacy of football, baseball, and basketball in this country. I'm not sure I agree, but it's an intriguing perspective from a European outsider.

We Don’t Suck the Worst Anymore!

0

I've been reduced to describing our beloved Galaxy in higher and lower levels of suckiness.  We used to suck the worst, but now San Jose has laid claim to that title after the Galaxy's win last night over Colorado.

Woohoo.

Although I've become a frustrated and often cynical fan, last night's game was a joy to watch.

Some News As We Head Into That All-Important Columbus Game

1

So I was in Google News today (search phrase "LA Galaxy") looking for some positive news about the Galaxy as we head into our must-win game with Columbus. Here are some headline I found that, at least initially, made me feel a bit better.

I discovered that...

...our Young Galaxy's Magnetic Field is Surprisingly Strong.

Who Are You To Doubt El Dandy?

0
... he's a silent guardian ... a watchful protector... El Dandy Nandy has been nothing short of ill for the club this year. With Captain Garcia always looking for an ear to listen to his daily musings, Riley busy getting thrown out, and Eric Denton ... I dunno, Denton kinda feels like Delaware to me. He’s Poetry In Motion

0

I've thought for months about how I would write a post lauding Landon Donovan.  And I've come up with very little because, frankly, the guy leaves me speechless.  I know there are other, better, players in the world today.  There's just something about Donovan though.

Back in the day when I played club in LA I played with a gal who left me speechless as well.

The Kids are Alright for the Carling Cup

0

At Arsenal, youth is served. And keeping in that fashion, the boss has named a side of 13 teenagers for today's fixture against Sheffield United. It comes as no surprise, as this has been his approach to the Cup, the fourth highest priority for Wenger.

In my attempt at player news, Jack Wilshere may get his first start, but he isn't even the youngest, as Emmanuel Frimpong is nine days younger.

Man United to miss out on £30 million, to rivals City?

0
Manchester United may miss out on striker Carlos Tevez, with rivals Manchester City ready to pounce. The Argentine international has yet to sign a permanent deal at Old Trafford and now City's new owners are ready to bid big to land the player. (News of the World)

Tevez, 24, has been a real hit at United since joining from West Ham a year ago. Click to continue reading...

Anelka and Malouda Do It for Chelsea

0

It was not a great day for French teams in the Champions League. Marseille lost to Liverpool 2-1 after taking an early lead, and Bordeaux got decimated by Chelsea, 4-0. (And it could have been worse.)

The only bright side? Florent Malouda and Nicolas Anelka both scored for Chelsea.

Canberra United: Supporters group to front home games

3
Canberra United. It feels good, doesn't it, to have a team in Canberra finally.

Ivan Slavich is on one of the supporters family buses to Sydney to show support for a Canberra A-League team. Why not get your club to have your own football singing bus. I'm sure there'll be a Tuggeranong United bus. Click to continue reading...

Season Ticket Holder Ranting

1

The Galaxy has recently reorganized their customer service teams to create a new team dedicated just to serving season ticket holders, of which I am one. My new rep has taken the time to introduce himself to me and this got me thinking about whether or not I'd be willing to shell out a serious (for me) amount of cash for next year, given the recent history of this team.

Who Will Play Against Real Salt Lake On Saturday?

6

The Galaxy looked sharper than they had in weeks last Saturday against the Revolution, which bodes well for the run they will have to make in order to get into the playoffs. However, this Saturday MLS has, in its infinite wisdom, decided to schedule league matches concurrently with a FIFA World Cup qualifier date.

It was a toss up whether I would post this here or at my floundering Beckham blog and I decided it was better suited to the Beckham blog, so go take a look.

Eddie Lewis is Officially Ours

3

Gash in his head and all.

Ruiz will go to Toronto probably cleats up after watching last night's game.

Lewis is a great acquisition, especially having played for Bruce Arena for many years already. That will make the transition to the team go more quickly and effectively.

I don't have news on the financial aspect of it all.

Watching US v. Guatemala

0

Anyone else?

I'm looking forward to seeing Eddie Lewis in a Galaxy uniform. Even on the left midfield he's going to help calm the flow through the midfield down while making smart and timely passes.

And if Pando tackles Donovan again . . . I don't want him or Lewis injured please.

And what's with the lighting?

Bruce Arena is Officially Introduced as Emperor of All Creation

3

So I guess the one way to ensure that there are no power struggles at the top is to make sure that there is only one holder of power. Right?

At least that's apparently what AEG is hoping for.

Bruce Arena was installed today not just as the expected coach, but as General Manager as well.

Bruce Arena Gets Officially Introduced as our New Coach Today, 11:00

10

Soccer by Ives is reporting that Bruce Arena gets his official introduction today as Galaxy coach today at 11:00. And he's bringing Dave Sarachan with him as his assistant.

What does this mean for Cobi? I have no clue, aside from Ives' assertion that "Cobi Jones is expected to remain on the Galaxy coaching staff.

Highlights from Galaxy 2-2 Chivas

1

For anyone who might have missed the game (or overindulged in intoxicating beverages and missed key portions of the game, like, say, Alan Gordon's stoppage time goal), here are the highlights.

Watching this, I was struck by the fact that these were four quality goals. (And Nurse is a huge acquisition for Chivas.

Goodbye Mr Edu

5

Well I am not too sure how to react, to the recent news of Mr Edu impending departure from the mighty reds. This kind of reminds me of a certain number 15 who once played in the hollowed city of T.O ( But maybe I am just being a dramatic). But the news of Maurice leaving MLS for a Greener pastures (In this case the Blue side of Glasgow) has left an uneasy feeling in the minds of many TFC supporters, its like breaking up with your significant other, even though you knew it had to end at some point.

Massacre At The HDC!

7

Updates at bottom.

So the hammer comes down.

The Los Angeles Times, in a story by Grahame Jones, reports that AEG has axed BOTH Alexi Lalas and Ruud Gullit in a meeting held today.

Jones reports,

In a pair of sweeping changes brought about by a Major League Soccer season in meltdown, the Los Angeles Galaxy today removed Alexi Lalas as team president and general manager and Ruud Gullit as coach.

Guess Who We Have News On? Kyle Martino, That’s Who!

21

Despite the fact that Kyle Martino is not a Galaxy guy this year, I still have him on my google alerts emails notices you get whenever somebody's name appears somewhere on the web.

For most of the season, my news has been about people unrelated to Kyle a whole lot of graduation announcements for one person named "Kyle Something" and another named "Something Martino.

From Rumor To Reality: Gibbs to Galaxy

11

Or so says Ives in this post.

I'm on record in the comments of my last SBI Supporter's View saying that I wouldn't have used the allocation for Cory Gibbs due to his injury history and cost against the salary cap (not like I actually know what that is, of course). But I am not the guy(s) in charge of personnel over at the HDC (that can only be a good thing) and I guess their calculus told them to pull the trigger.

Rumor: Freddie Ljungberg (Yes, the Underwear Model) to the Galaxy

6

It is possible for one team to have too many players who look good in their underwear? I believe that generally, the answer is an emphatic no. This time, though? I'm not so sure.

The Galaxy may find out. Various British sources, including, apparently the BBC, have linked Swedish international and Calvin Klein undies model Freddie Yumberg Ljungberg to the Galaxy.

Donovan to the EPL? This Season?!?! Say It Ain’t So, Landon!

According to Yanks Abroad, Landon Donovan's agent has refused to deny rumors that Landon's looking to go to the EPL, possibly this summer.

Donovan was recently quoted by the English media giant as saying, "The older I get and the more I play, the more I'm yearning for that highest level I can play at.
