I don't even want to talk about the Galaxy.....

7

.....but I will.

LA hasn't won in 11 matches. The last time we tasted victory was a couple of weeks before I left for Spain! We were in first place at that moment. Now we're tied for last. Our coach Ruud Gullit quit the team because the American system was too restrictive for the way he wanted to coach.

Bits and bobs + Arsecast 90

0

Morning from a wet and dreary Dublin. I was really hoping for a bit of an Indian summer in September but it turns out the Indian summer is just another Irish summer, except a bit colder.

A few bits and bobs to talk about but as we are still in the midst of the Interlull it's all a bit quiet overall.

Goodbye Zidane, Hello Pires

2
The transfer of Aliaksandr Hleb discussed earlier this summer eventually became inevitable. Arsenal, after all, have a reputation as a selling club and had just finished another season trophyless. The planned £20 million switch to Inter that had previously opened the door for Hleb's exit served to ease his path to Barcelona. Click to continue reading...

Chicago Fire (9-6-5) at Galaxy (6-8-6)

2

Turns out Bruce Arena's first Galaxy team looks a lot like Ruud Gullit's last team - not that he's got many options of course.

David Beckham is on his way to China for the Olympics closing ceremonies, Landon Donovan is recovering from last night's Guatemalan hackfest, um, game, Carlos Ruiz is now a Toronto player, eh, and new signing Eddie Lewis has the evening off too, recovering from the nasty blow to the head he took, no doubt.

Galaxy at Chivas USA & a Bruce Arena Sighting

2

Blogging could be problematic tonight because of problems with the tubes and wires of the Internet thingie here at the Home Depot Center so bear with me (hey, it's only a $150 million stadium).

But former U.S. Coach Bruce Arena is in the building this evening so you know what that means. He didn't come all the way out from the East Coast just to watch.

WRIGHTY TO WRIGHTY: HMMMMMMM....

3
I read Ian Wrights column today in the Sun this morning. He is saying he is concerned that Arsenal are turning into a stepping stone for wannabe greats and is a place where world-class players are no longer happy to see out their careers.

I understand Wrighty's concerns. It has (in the past) crossed my mind that maybe Arsenal are turning into a bigger version of West Ham. Click to continue reading...

Nasri the 'new Pires' + Hleb needs to shut up now.

7

Morning all,

hope you're fine and dandy this Sunday morning. Some bits and pieces to get through and there's a lot of chaff amongst the wheat today.

The Mail is reporting Newcastle have made a bid for Philippe Senderos but the whole article is so utterly rubbish I'm not linking to it.

Theo Walcott is ready..........

4
This coming season I believe that Theo Walcott will show the reason Le Boss signed him. It has taken him a while to settle with Arsenal but for me he is finally ready.

He hasn't set the world on fire at the Emirates. He seems to blow hot and cold and can sometimes be a little frustrating to watch. Click to continue reading...

Adebayor, Arshavin, and Other Transfer Stories

2
Howdy. That's how we do it here in Florida, with a howdy. We've got a good bit of stuff today actually, so that's good because there hasn't been much to write about for oh...about six weeks. So let's get right down to it!

First off, Robert Pires has been selected as the 6th greatest Arsenal player of all time! Click to continue reading...

Chivas USA-Galaxy Post-Game

David Beckham tries an unsuccessful free kick.

Post-Game Quotes:
Chivas USA Coach Preki on the reason he was given for getting sent off: "Absolutely none."

A press box colleague later observed a Chivas assistant coach told him Preki was sent off for giving a dismissive gesture related to what he thought was an erroneous offside call against Justin Braun just before Chivas USA conceded the equalizer.

The worst signing of the MLS season (that you probably never heard of)

6

With the 2008 MLS season at its midway point it is a good time to consider the signings MLS teams made last pre-season and how they have done so far. Before we get to that this weekend, I wanted to point to one signing that may be the bust of the year, but a bust you haven't heard much about.

Galaxy ties versus Columbus

3
Los Angeles Galaxy was hot early, as Landon Donovan scored within the first five minutes after Crew goalkeeper Will Hesmer dropped a cross. Despite struggling to establish a rhythm on the field, the Galaxy struck early in the second half too, when Edson Buddle charged into the box to put away a shot. Click to continue reading...

Galaxy v. Crew Preview

1

Week 13 already?

Looks like we're doing well though.  Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle are #1 and #2 respectively on the MLS high-scoring list.  A Galaxy player has captured 6 of the last 12 MLS Player of the Week awards.  We lead the Western standings.  So far so good!

The Columbus Crew come to the HDC with a record of 7-4-1 versus our record of 6-4-2.

Andrei Arshavin Arsenal

1
Andrei Arshavin had a cracking game for Russia last night as a lot of you will have seen. He is described by Hiddink as the cleverest player hes ever managed, which is quite an accolade coming from Hiddink. It seems that hes very good player but good enough for Arsenal?
Well the reports which i think have only really popped up today after his performance last night are that Wenger will offer £10million. Click to continue reading...

Wenger's secret steps for succesful signings

3
Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger is undoubtedly one of the best talent spotters in football.

During his tenure as manager in London, the Frenchman has signed relative unknowns such Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, and Robert Pires, assembling the first unbeaten team in the top tier of English football since Preston North End in 1889.

Since then the Arsenal coach has continued to buy fabulous talents at low prices. Click to continue reading...

Juventus want Gallas and Gilberto

1
Juventus director Alessio Secco has added William Gallas to his already long wishlist of London-based players. Juventus were already reportedly interested in Arsenal's out-of-favor defensive midfielder Gilberto Silva, as well as Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard from cross-town rivals, Chelsea.

The Brazilian captain, at 31 and the French defender, at 30, are the two oldest outfield players in Arsene Wenger's squad. Click to continue reading...

Flamini Is Finally Stepping Up

0
Arsene Wenger's undeniable genius was enough to earn him a contract extension until the 2010/11 season, and it's not hard to see why the Arsenal board were happy to keep him at the club. Under Wenger's tutelage, Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, and Robert Pires were all transformed from struggling players into terrifying French wonders.

However, Wenger doesn't do everything right, and many Arsenal fans thought that Mathieu Flamini was one of his few mistakes. Click to continue reading...
