Photo of the Day: Great Pyramids

1

Remember when we posted a photo from season ticket holder Brian Barnes wearing his United jersey at Machu Picchu? Well, apparently that inspired former United trialist and reserve division guest player Grady Renfrow to send in a few photos of him sporting his DCU kit in Egypt.

Grady is a local product who was on trial with the Black-and-Red during pre-season 2008.

Photo of the Day: Ben Olsen and Screaming Eagles

2

A bunch of the Screaming Eagles travelled to the Home Depot Center in California for the 2008 MLS Cup. There they caught up with United midfielder Ben Olsen.

Kim Klyberg says: A bunch of us caught up with Ben at MLS Cup (no, we didn't offer him any juice boxes!) It was weird to be at a game and not have to set up a massive tailgate, grill food for 300 people and I actually got inside in time to see the national anthem and the kick off.

Fred debuted this weekend for the Wellington Phoenix FC, as the A-League side hosted the Newcastle Jets on Sunday. Fred started and played 70 minutes in Wellington's 2-0 win. Fred and the New Zealanders had a one-man advantage early on when in the 52nd minute, a studs-up tackle on the Brazilian earned the Jets their second red card of the game.

Photo of the Day: Manager on Top

1
This hasn't been a great year for AS Roma manager Luciano Spalletti. His club is a perennial Champions League club, but they're having an awful, injury-riddled year this year and have spent the season hovering around the relegation zone. And going into today's Champions League game, they had a grand total of three [. Click to continue reading...

Have you ever played football with or against someone you know to be perfectly nice, only to see them turn into a raging animal on the field? Football does the strangest things to people. Photo of the Day: William Gallas + Cigarette

22
So here it is: the infamous photo of William Gallas. With a cigarette. But not smoking. Yet. As published in the Daily Mail. When this story broke I remember saying "there's only one thing you can do with an unlit cigarette. And that's to light it." But call me gullible, part of me is now willing [. Photo of the Day: Machu Picchu!

7

I received a pretty cool email (with the above photo attached) the other day from Brian Barnes, who has been a season ticket holder since 1997. I'll let him tell the story:

Good afternoon. Brian Barnes from Richmond here and wanted to pass along a cool picture I took last week. While in Peru at Machu Picchu, I took my old jersey with me and got a picture at one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Photo of the Day: Moreno's goodbye

Tonight, Jaime Moreno made his final appearance in the green kit of his home country, Bolivia. Earlier this week, the League's all-time leading goal-scorer announced he would be retiring from international play following this evening's game against El Salvador. Though his team lost 2-0, Jaime Moreno entered the game in the 72nd minute and nearly scored in the 88th, but had his header cleared off the line by a Salvadoran defender. The man has inexplicably managed to get uglier - shaved head accentuating the satellite dishes he calls ears. I've never seen the films, but I imagine he looks like a Lord of the Rings character. Photo of the day: Visit from U.S. Ambassador

Prior to last night's game, members of United had a special visit from the Costa Rican U.S. Ambassador Peter Cianchette and his family, wife Carolyn and children Evan and Maria. Well, maybe not the entire country, but after breakfast today a number of guys explored the massive garden behind the hotel. Winding, wandering pathways, exotic plants, a greenhouse, a garden labyrinth, ponds full of frogs and tadpoles and many unique statues were found throughout. And Boyzzz found an alligator (or perhaps the alligator found him?

Marcelo Gallardo is back in the district after about two weeks of rehab in his native Argentina. Media spoke with United's #10 and here's a few excerpts, via translation and my poorly written notes:
