The Week In Words

Liverpool are such a big club. Anybody who tells you he wants to leave a club like that is lying.
Nice to hear from Emile Heskey.

It is very frustrating to know that you've been a playing such big part of the team and all of a sudden you are in the shadows but that's the manager's choice and you just have to get on with it. Click to continue reading...

1

Another Friday means match day is soon to come. This week it's newcomers Hull City visiting the Emirates. It was a crazy week, as the youngsters were the toast of the Carling Cup's third round with their thrashing of Sheffield United. Lots of interesting news to go around as a result.

Cesc talks about fearing for his first team place with the sort of young talent below him.

Too Early To Give Up On Pennant

1
There have been many critics of Jermaine Pennat – a good portion of them Liverpool fans – yet I have always failed to understand the reason for all the negativity. I appreciate that he's probably not good enough, or at least not consistent enough, to be playing each week for a team with title ambitions but, as a squad player, he isn't a bad option. Are Liverpool Killing Off the Academy?

1
Liverpool's reserves lost in the league for the first time in over a year last week, a record that brings back happy memories of an era where the second string used to routinely win the Pontins League under the guidance of future first team manager Roy Evans.

The strategy back then was also very similar tot e one that Rafael Benitez has been adopting even if the range of nationalities has been widened drastically. Click to continue reading...

Sami v UEFA v Liverpool

0
Even though news trickled out four days ago, for some reason, Hyypia's omission from the Champions League group stages has hit the national media today. It's even prompted a statement from Benitez on the official site. I hadn't planned on addressing it, and it still feels somewhat Captain Obvious to go over it now, but seeing all the articles pop up in my Google Reader isn't doing my blood pressure much good. Jermaine Pennant Still In Liverpool FC Plans

1
RAFAEL BENITEZ has assured Jermaine Pennant he won't freeze him out at Liverpool.

The Anfield manager was prepared to let the winger leave the club during the recent transfer window.

Pennant had talks with both Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers but ultimately declined the advances of both clubs. Click to continue reading...

Different perspectives on Pennants situation

1
Rafa says he doesn't intend to freeze him out and may also look to extend his contract. It sounds like a ruse to avoid losing money which is fair enough, as he is in the last year of his contract. We signed him for £6.7 million and it would be nice to try and recoup some of that.

I like Pennant when he's on form, but it's clear that he's fallen down the pecking order. Click to continue reading...

Liverpool and Everton signings - analysis

9
I don't really know too much about either player that Liverpool and Everton signed on the transfer deadline day, but I'll give my comments based upon what I've read.

Liverpool seemed to get the player they wanted in Albert Riera, a left winger who should provide a lot of ammunition for Fernando Torres, Robbie Keane, and the rest of Liverpool's goal scorers. Click to continue reading...

Benitez’s Surprise Choice

Aside from the Barry saga, this was the summer in which the core of Liverpool's successful reserve side got an opportunity to prove their worth at a higher level. Jermaine Sure Can Pick Em!

3
There's just something about the name Jermaine that conjures up an instant image that the owner is a moron. I'm not being racist, or class-ist, it's just that all available empirical evidence confirms this. King of the Morons is obviously Jermain Defoe, but since he's been disappointingly quiet recently, I'd like to take some time now to talk about one of his old pals, Jermaine Pennant.
