Roller coaster continues

3
Despite knocking on wood as often as possible, I hate to admit that I called this. DC United was consistently crappy early in the year, and was consistently victorious just before the start of Superliga, but at all other times of the season, we've been horribly inconsistent. The team once again failed tonight to string together victories. Click to continue reading...

McCarty Replaces Sturgis: Thoughts

1

Dax McCarty from USSoccer.com

Peter Nowak swapped one Floridian for another as Dax McCarty replaces the injured Nathan Sturgis on the US squad. This leaves Nowak with only four natural defenders on the squad which leaves for Hong Kong and pre Olympic training tomorrow.

Parkhurst on Olympics

1
I got a snippet of Michael Parkhurst talking about the Olympics, actually a pretty good couple of minutes on it.

What I didn't get was a good picture of him.

I didn't really need to talk to Parkhurst but you never know what a player will say and when you might need to use some of his stuff, so you may see this somewhere else. Click to continue reading...

Strength is relative

1
I didn't write the headline to my article about the Olympic roster.

Not that I object to it per se, but I do find it a bit of a paradox, because one of my main points in the article was that the U.S. didn't send the strongest team they could have to the Olympics. Obviously, World Cup qualifying was an issue that conflicted, as did the demands of club teams, especially when it came to one Landon Donovan. Click to continue reading...

U.S Men's Olympic Team

3

The U.S. Men's National Team for this year's Olympic games was announced today and it contains a great list of some very talented players. Coach Peter Nowak made some excellent choices, especially with the 3 over age 23 players that he is allowed to select in Brian McBride, Brad Guzan, and Michael Parkhurst.

Superliga Group B Matchday 2 Stream of Conscious

New England Revolution 1 v Pachuca 0
* I want to take a look at the disallowed goal a second time. It appeared to me that the two players who were offsides at the delivery of the ball were not the two that ended up playing the ball.

* Good through ball by Aguilar for Pachuca's first half, but even better from Reis to not only save but to eventually hold on. Click to continue reading...

All Star first XI lineup

2

The first XI for the 2008 MLS All Star game was announced. This isn't necessairly the starting lineup - coach Nicol will decide who starts. These are just the first 11 guys named to the team. If it were the starting lineup it would look something like this:

Donovan - Cooper

Rogers

Kljestan - Blanco - Joseph - Beckham

Parkhurst - Conrad - Hejduk

Reis

What other players do you think will be added to the team?

Parkhurst's thoughts

0
I had the chance to catch up with Michael Parkhurst after the match. Here's audio of our conversation.

Since the Revs are going to compete in SuperLiga and I might need something from the Revs on the tournament, I also took the opportunity to ask him a few questions on that as well. Also, not sure who was screaming there about a towel in the background early on but someone was either angry or excited about something. Click to continue reading...

(The rest of) Your Questions Answered

2

Hello all. Apologies for the lack of posts this morning but I was finishing off the last of the most recent Q&A and also working on a piece for ESPN.com on my picks for the MLS All-Star game Starting XI.

First things first. I definitely wanted to answer the remaining questions from the last Q&A so I could clear the way for another Q&A session later today (stay tuned for that).

Revolution 3-0 Dynamo

4
Well, well. Ever since the 2008 schedule was released, people were marking this game as one of the most anticipated of the new season. It was heralded as a game between giants and almost-beens, a battle between the perennial brides and the consistently underachieving bridesmaids. It looked like it, too, after all was said and done. Click to continue reading...

Where is Eddie Johnson heading? (And other MLS transfer talk)

1

Eddie Johnson is ready to go.

The Kansas City Wizards forward is set to pack his bling and make the move to Europe now that the European transfer window is open. The question is where will he go? Clubs all over England have been linked to the U.S. national team striker. Newcastle showed some interest while Manchester City, Fulham and Middlesbrough are among other teams linked to a bid for Johnson.

MLS Awards: Defender and Comeback Announced

1
New England Revolution defender Michael Parkhurst was named the Visa Defender of the Year today by the MLS. Probably the least surprising news of the day really. Parkhurst missed the first three games of the season recovering from a preseason shoulder injury, but came back to anchor a defense that recorded 10 shutouts and allowed 43 [...] Click to continue reading...

Tim Howard is only fooling himself

26
First, before all you muppets and zombies berate me for supposedly slagging off on one of your beloved heroes, know this. I think Tim Howard is a good keeper and easily the best the US has right now. US fans need to grow some balls, skin, and/or a brain and lose the Third Reich attitude that if you are critical, you are not a true fan and should be taken out back and shot.
