Serie A Weekend Round-up: Giornata 5

1

When looking at the schedule of the 5th Giornata, all eyes had to be on Milan-Inter. The Derby was important not only for fans of those teams but for fans of other teams, as everyone had to hope Inter were stopped. And they were stopped, as the Rossoneri prevailed with a thunderous header from Ronaldinho, who scored his first goal in a Milan jersey.

Serie A Weekend Round-up: Giornata 3

1

The third giornata of Serie A had less drama and surprises then the last two weeks, but it was interesting and exciting nonetheless. All the big teams won (including Milan for the first time): Inter swept aside Torino, Juventus won a tricky away game vs. Cagliari, Roma ended their "crisis" by soundly defeating Reggina 3-0, Milan finally won with a 4-1 victory over Lazio, and Fiorentina keep chugging along (with Gila scoring goals) with a win vs.

Defensive Depth Diminishing e Stuff

0

(Fabio says hi to Abidal)

Barzagli Down & Out

When Donadoni released his squad list with only 7 defenders, I simply thought "alright, whatever". When Canna went down and Gamberini was forced into the fold I thought "Shit, calling up 7 defenders, 5 of whom are into the Geritol stage of their careers wasn't too brilliant, was it?

Italy and Heart, the Euro Adventure Continues. Quarterfinals vs. Spain

0
The "biscuits" are only Scandinavian. The miracle of bern repeats itself, but this time it is Italian and not German, like in the 1954 World Cup. Italy gets rid of the Portuguese nightmare and advances to the second round. Italy was great against France and while they beat the French team coached by Domenech 2-0, something they have not done in regular time since the 1978 World Cup, The Netherlands beat Romania 2-0, allowing us to advance to the quarterfinals that will be played on Sunday, the 22nd, in Vienna, against Spain. Italy 90’ of Emotion and Bad Luck: All Depends on Tuesday

2
The score was 1-1 in Zurich. A good Italy, that is not able to beat Romania despite dominating the field. Lobont, the Romanian goalkeeper, was able to save just about everything and in the final minutes Buffon was able to black a penalty kick by Mutu after a foul that only the referee saw, the same referee that in the first half had annulled a regular goal to Luca Toni. Early doors - the 1st round of matches

0
Well we've now seen all of the teams play and after a slow start the tournament seems to be coming to life with the quickest teams packed full of relative youngsters, Holland, Portugal and Spain, showing the value of fast, counter-attacking football and winning relatively comfortably (although both Italy and Russia were slightly unlucky to end up on the wrong side of absolute gubbings). Euro 2008: Day 3

2
Netherlands 3-0 Italy
And the answer to the question of how Italy would cope without Fabio Cannavaro is: Not well at all. I can't remember the last time they lost this badly. Maybe they should have just put Cannavaro out there anyway, crutches and all.

The game turned to shit for Italy in the 25th minute, with Ruud van Nistelrooy scoring a goal that at first appeared to be blatantly offside. Click to continue reading...

The Dutch were better

0
Tonight was a good night for Italy but not in the conventional sense. I loved Donadoni as a player and i have no doubt he will one day make a good manager but he is out of his depth right now. From playing people in the wrong spot (Zambrotta at left back instead of Right back,Panucci on the left) To choosing the 4-3-3 against a nation that has mastered its intricacies in the least is naive. Euro 2008 Group C preview

4
France Raymond Domenech's squad on paper is definitely Euro final material & the frogs will want to get one over the Italians after The World Cup Final (nut)-cracker. France posses a fantastic team with plenty of depth. They conceded just 5 in qualifying and would probably be at better odds for the trophy if it weren't for the group of death draw.
