Olympic Football

Olyroos Get a Lucky Point On Thursday night the Football tournament started the night before the official opening ceremony. And our Olyroos kicked it off with a match against first timers, Serbia. The score ended up 1-1 which is obviously better than losing. Tonight we take on defending Olympic champions, Argentina and the heir apparent to Maradonna, [. Click to continue reading...

Universal Energy And Propitious Clouds And No Logo #

Football Is Fixed is a banned blog in China - although the great wall came down for a few days in March, over 1.3 billion people are denied access to our assessment of the corruption that underpins the great game of football.
Much of the malicious hacking that we respond to also emanates from the People's Republic of China. Click to continue reading...

08.08.08. The Global Growth of Women’s Soccer from China 1991 to Today

Today is the opening ceremony for the Beijing Olympics, so I thought it would be fun to visit the history of women's soccer - China is where it all (technically) began back in 1991. This post references two documents, please take a moment to download them. They're worth the read :-)SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "08. Click to continue reading...

Time to break out the oxygen masks

Yeah, I know it's been quiet around here lately. But frankly, there hasn't been much that I've felt like writing about. I'm choosing to ignore Toronto FC's terrible run of form, and the transfer window is no more exciting than it was a month ago, which is to say, not at all.

But finally, we have some games that actually matter. Click to continue reading...

Cloak & Dagger

It is only a few days out from the start of the Olympic Games. It is rather ironic that the Olyroos Olympic campaign will most likely be determined in 90 minutes of football prior to the opening ceremony. We play Serbia on the 7th and realistically, three points will probably be required for us to [. Click to continue reading...

Why Bookmakers Hate The Olympics #

Only 11 days until the Greatest Sporting Show on Earth.
The Olympic Games represents the pinnacle, a summit that cannot be matched by any of the other mega-events like the World Cup or the World Athletics Championships.
Sure enough, the global power loci flex their muscles via their compliant media, and the selection of the host city for the extravaganza is a process mired in the murky world of kickbacks and coercion. Click to continue reading...

The Box Factory

At last Euro 2008 is underway. What's more, it has started with boxes. That's right, boxes with balloons in them carried by "volunteers" wearing inflated shell suits. I am of course referring to the official Opening Ceremony in Basel.

Opening ceremonies are truly bizarre affairs. What sort of society do we live in where we feel this urge to spend vast sums of money parading around in daft costumes (although I rather liked the milkmaids) and holding aloft wooden cows before a football match? Click to continue reading...
