The superstar Argentine, that Columbus doesn't deserve, has won MLS Player of Week for the third time.

That ties him with LanDo for most this season.

Good stuff dude. Keeping the good fight over in Ohio.

Dunga's dilemma

1

His future as coach of Brazil has a big question mark hanging over it after the the mauling from Argentina. All those who had said he shouldn't have taken on the Olympic job seeing that Alfio Basile had decided not to coach the Argentine Olympic team are saying things like " We knew this would happen"Maradona is adding fuel to the flames and salt to the wounds by saying he had never seen Brazil play like that - (meaning it as an insult and not a compliment).

The pressure is NOT on Landon Donovan because of the Olympics

3
I completely disagree with Grahame Jones' article in the Los Angeles Times that the pressure is now on Landon Donovan to perform well in the World Cup qualifier against Guatemala because the team didn't perform well at the Olympics. What exactly is the correlation between the two? Is it just that some of the players were on the Olympic team and now they will play for the full U. Click to continue reading...

Brucey Bear

Grahame the wag, no, not that kind, spotted evidence of a cut on Bruce Arena's throat when he came over to answer questions from the press. "What happened?" Grahame asked. "Did you realize you had agreed to take over the Galaxy and then tried to cut your throat?"

Bruce smiled. "I had spinal fusion surgery. Click to continue reading...

Maurice Edu off to Glasgow Rangers

7
As reported in an article by the New York Times, it appears that Maurice Edu from Toronto F.C. and also recently on the U.S. Olympic team, is going to be transferred to Glasgow Rangers, possibly to replace Carlos Cueller who recently was sold to Aston Villa. Even I have to admit that this is a great move for Edu as Rangers are a very big club within the Scottish Premier League and even in the context of Europe (despite their recent setback of getting knocked out of the Champions League). The move means he will not be signing with Major League Soccer and the New England Revolution. This just shows in the end the league could not compete [. Click to continue reading...

Feilhaber In Talks With MLS

1
Continuing a recent trend in Major League Soccer, another overseas-based American player is in negotiations to return home. This time, it's 2007 Gold Cup hero Benny Feilhaber, who is reportedly ready to leave Europe in favor of increased playing time in the United States.Feilhaber, 23, spent last season with Derby County in the English Premier League, but was rarely called up and made only ten appearances as the club went down to relegation. U.S. Olympic Team out of the tournament

9
Here is a link to a really good analysis by Fox Sports' Jaime Trecker of the U.S. Olympic team's performance after they lost to Nigeria and are out of the tournament. It really was an overall disappointing performance by the team. They should be looking to achieve better results at this point and I agree that its time for Peter Nowak to move on. Recap: Nigeria 2-1 United States

Grading the youngsters

I had thought about going through each US player who saw significant playing time in the Olympics and judging him on whether his stock rose or fell in terms of his prospects with the senior team.

But I can't think of many players who improved their standings with performances in this tournament. Click to continue reading...

Canada Qualifies for the Olympic Quarter Final

It may not seem like a big deal for the rest of the world for us here in Canada to have an Olympic team doing well in soccer is an amazing feat. Canada has yet to receive any medals in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Despite losing to Sweden 1:2 in it's final [...] Click to continue reading...

As I mentioned yesterday, I chose to write my weekly column on the US Men's Olympic team before the Galaxy news broke. So there was a wire story in the PE about the Galaxy moves.

Who should the USA start vs. Nigeria?

The task is simple, but far from easy. Avoid defeat against Nigeria and the U.S. men's Olympic team advances to the quarterfinals of the tournament. Secure a victory against Nigeria and the Americans advance AND avoid facing Argentina in the quarters.

U.S - Holland Olympic draw

9
Grant Wahl from Sports Illustrated wrote an excellent analysis of the U.S. - Holland game in this article. I have to say though that I still can't believe that GERALD SIBON of all people is the Dutch player to beat that U.S. team. This is the same Gerald Sibon who has bounced around Europe playing for Sheffield Wednesday, Nurenburg, and various teams in the Dutch Eredivise. Click to continue reading...
