Impossible is Nothing: Adidas’ Video for Kahn’s Farewell

6
As you may know former longtime Germany and Bayern no. 1 Oliver Kahn had his testimonial exactly a week ago in Munich. The match, between Bayern and Germany, ended 1-1, but the score was less important than the man honored that night. His accomplishments are legion and well-known, including, perhaps most impressively, [. Click to continue reading...

Massimo Oddo starting anew in Germany

5

One of the Italians to move abroad this summer was World Cup winning fullback (and team barber) Massimo Oddo. The 32 year old right back had a nightmare season last year. He wasn't himself at all, he played poorly, all his crosses ended up in Row Z, and he found himself left out of the national team set-up, missing Euro 2008.

Germany Says Goodbye to King Kahn

3
In a slow match that looked exactly like the charity event it was, Germany's national team and Bayern Munich bid farewell to German soccer legend Oliver "King" Kahn on Tuesday night in Munich.
With Bayern trailing in the Bundesliga and Germany facing a pair of World Cup qualifiers next week, it was clear Oliver Kahn's goal for the night would be different from that of the other 21 players on the pitch. Click to continue reading...

Die Tore sind einfach zu klein

1
Click to continue reading...

Jens Lehman Retires From International Football

3
Jens Lehman has retired from international football at the age of 38. Despite a succesful display in goal for Germany during Euro 2008 the ex-Arsenal stopper has decided to call it a day. Lehman made 61 appearances for Germany playing his first game against Oman in Febuary 1998. Lehman also looks set to retire from football altogether when his contract at Stuttgart runs out at the end of the coming season. Click to continue reading...

So is Jurgen Klinsmann the next Santiago Bernabéu?

1
I was reading this article on ESPN's website and it got me to thinking, how does Bayern Munich expect to measure success during Jurgen Klinsmann's time as manager. Are they expecting to go on a run of Champions League victories? What exactly is the measure of success? They won the Champions League Cup back in 2001. Click to continue reading...

A Footnote in US Soccer History

As Tim Candon points out over on the SWakeChat blog, those of us that attended the RailHawks v. Red Bull NY pre-season friendly back on March 28th will likely be some of the last folks to see Claudio Reyna play a competitive soccer match.
It has been widely reported that Reyna will retire from playing soccer at a press conference today in New York. Click to continue reading...

This season's Bundesliga has certainly provided its fair share of excitement and tension, even if the favourites did rather run away with the title leading from the front from day one. 10 Things we learned from Matchday 34

1. Nuremberg complete relegation double. Schalke scored two goals. Schalke almost scored two own goals. In between Nuremberg squandered their chances, like they squandered their chances all season. Eventually those were Nuremberg's final 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. Nuremberg are now in sole possession of two less than flattering relegation records. Click to continue reading...

Franck Ribery bids farewell to Oliver Kahn

I already wondered what had happened to Franck the Prankster, but here he is with his accomplice Daniel van Buyten.

Klinsmann settles for Bayern Munich job

5
Devastated by his inability to land a coaching job in the US, Juergen Klinsmann settled for the top spot with little known German side Bayern Munich. Klinsmann had desperately wanted to take control of either the US men's national team or the LA Galaxy, but he failed to impress either of them, forcing him to turn tail and run back to Germany. Week Sixteen: Bayern drop points. Bremen drop trousers. Kahn dropped.

0
Traditionally, opportunities to catch Bayern are rare. However, there is a growing feeling that all is not well in the Munich camp. Last Sunday, the so-called (by me at least) champions to-be, could only muster a 0-0 draw with relegation fodder Duisburg. This week, goalkeeper Oliver Kahn was fined 25,000 yo-yos for a breach of club discipline. Click to continue reading...

Asia Preparing For The Return Of Kahn

2
As earlier reports suggested, Oliver Kahn may well be on his way to coaching in Asia after he retires from playing. Kahn took a trip to China during the Bundesliga's Euro 2008 qualifying break and, after being welcomed by a mob, held a training session with 10 selected goalkeepers there. Kahn told Shanghai Daily:
"I have a lot of fans in Asia, especially in China, and it is my way of giving them back something for their support, and it is not just because of the fans that I want to be here but I am interested in China as well.

Oliver Kahn to leave Bayern Munich

2
Oliver Kahn has made it official, unless backup keeper Michael Rensing is seriously injured, he will retire from Bayern Munich next summer.
"Next year I will be 39 and it will be time to take the shorts off. After that I have a few things planned in Asia."

Kahn chose Asia as his retirement destination during the 2002 World Cup.
