Lyon Go Chinese, the Ladies Crush Arsenal, and Toulalan Gets Promoted

2

Remember how I said that China were becoming Lyon's new best friends? Well, it looks like Aulas takes this BFF business seriously because today Lyon launched a Chinese version of their official website, thanks to a partnership with TitanSport, a Chinese sports media giant.

Pretty soon OL will be signing token Chinese players a la Manchester United.

Random Nuggets

It's international week, so things are rather quiet on the Lyon front. Here's what's been going on:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fabio Grosso is back in training and is expected to play against Lille on October 18th. This is good news because if he does well, he play against Steaua a few days later.
Yes, Lyon Also Spend Money on Their Women
19
So far in this transfer window, Lyon have spent nearly €60m on incoming players. They are surely in the top five when it comes to overall spending this summer.
But it's not just the men's team getting the attention. Aulas stayed true to this promise and has strengthened the women's team as well.
Karim Benzema is Ligue 1’s Player of the Year
2
Remember when I mentioned the UNFP Awards? Today, the ceremony took place.
Unsurprisingly, Karim Benzema won Player of the Year, beating out teammate Jeremy Toulalan, Marseille's Mahamadou Niang, and Bordeaux's Wendel.
Fabio Grosso Bitchslaps a Player, Plus Other Lyon Nuggets
1
Fabio Grosso's week isn't getting any better. Last weekend, he was verbally abused by Strasbourg coach Jean-Marc Furlan for being a "piece of macaroni shit." Today, during Lyon's 2-2 draw against Caen, Grosso was sent off, the third Lyon player to be red carded this year.
MORE Injuries, Plus Marseille Want Hatem Ben Arfa (Hahaha)
0
This has got to be the worst year for Lyon in terms of injuries. Important players keep dropping like flies, right when things are getting crucial.
Last weekend against Marseille, Jeremy Toulalan and Fred were both carried off the pitch within the first half hour.
Lyon Aren’t Out of Europe Just Yet…
4
At least the ladies team isn't. OL Féminines, UEFA Women's Cup debutants, are currently the only French team - male or female - that are still in Europe.
Jean-Michel Aulas has thrown all his considerable weight behind Lyon's ladies team, who have the weight of an entire nation on their shoulders.
The Women Lead the Way
1
Lyon have been waiting for a European title for a long time. Except it turns out that the ladies just might beat the men in bringing home that coveted prize. Though this year was the debut of OL Ladies in Europe, they're three games away from clinching France's first ever UEFA Women's Cup.
Ladies: Lyon 0 - 0 Arsenal
0
Yesterday was the first leg tie of the UEFA Women's Cup quarterfinals, with Lyon playing first leg against the title holders Arsenal at the Stade de Gerland.
Arsenal, who've steam rolled every team they've come up against so far, were forced to content themselves with their first scoreless draw in the competition. Lyon on the other hand, had to start off in the first qualifying round due to their being newbies in Europe, but they more than proved they belong in the tournament by holding off England star striker Kelly Smith.
Milan Baros Gets Political and some other stuff
0
Milan Baros, who hasn't been seen in a Lyon kit for several weeks now, is apparently involved in a row with the Civic Democrats, the current ruling part of the Czech Republic. Apparently, he agreed to campaign for them and make appearances on behalf of their party during the elections, and in return, they were supposed to partially fund his football academy.
Now that international break is over, the players will be returning tomorrow to resume Ligue 1 doldrums. Here's what's been happening with Les Gones...
Lyon players had a very good international break. Last weekend, Karim Benzema, Hatem Ben Arfa, and Fabio Grosso all scored goals for their respective national teams (Benzema scored two).
The Ladies Try to Change Lyon’s European Luck
0
Lyon's ambitions to be ranked among Europe's best female teams will be put to the test this week as they enter the UEFA Women's Cup second qualifying round. And though I hate to say it, OL Ladies probably have a better chance at European glory this year than the men's side.
When FC Lyon Fémenin came under the umbrella of Olympique Lyonnais a few years back, one of the goals Jean-Michel Aulas set was winning the UEFA Women's Cup.
