Kansas City Wizards 3 - 2 San Jose Earthquakes

0
That was fun. What a great night. I do not know where to begin...The fans were able to honor 2 of their favorite Wizards. Kerry Zavagnin's last regular season home game deserved a special display and it was delivered. This is part of the display before the game. Many Cauldron members posing with THE centerpice of Kerry's TIFO. Click to continue reading...

Wizards Leave it Late

1
A fantastic ending to a back and forth game out at Community America Ballpark last night, as the Wizards got a goal late in stoppage time from Herculez Gomez to put the Wizards back into 7th place in the playoff race. KC now has to match New York's result next week, or hope that DC United does not get a win on Sunday next week. Click to continue reading...

San Jose Earthquakes practice 10 17 2008

0
First I want to thank San Jose for letting me interview them. Coach Yallop, Nick, Scott and Flor Rivera (the San Jose PR person), were all very helpful and willing to answer questions. Coach Yallop talks about playoff chances, being an expansion team, and his former Wizards players. I asked Scott Sealy about his new team compared to the Wizards. Click to continue reading...

Struggling Wizards Head to San Jose

1
The Wizards will try to get only their second away win of the season when they go to take on San Jose this weekend. Not since the 1-0 win against Chicago the first away game of the season have the Wizards taken all 3 points on the road. Since then the Wizards are 0-5-5 on the road getting only 5 of the 30 points available for them. Click to continue reading...

Sunday (Now Monday) After Stats

1
Ok, wanted to get these out today before I went to bed after getting back from Colorado, here are a few stats after this weekends game.

Last night's game was Kevin Hartman's 50th game in league play with the Wizards. Hartman has played in every minute of every league game since coming to the Wizards for 4500 minutes. Click to continue reading...

Stats on Sunday

1
I'm starting a new little feature called "Stats on Sunday" (or whatever the day is after the game we play). Anyways, what I'll do, is break down some of the stats from the game. So here are some other stats from last nights game.

- The BIG one first, Kerry Zavagnin became the Wizards all time leader in minutes played in MLS matches, passing Nick Garcia. Click to continue reading...

Should Have Been Easier

1
3 points is 3 points, but that came should have been much easier then it was. Up 3-0, the Wizards allowed Chivas USA back into the game, and if not for some stellar keeping by Kevin Hartman, we'd be talking about Chivas coming back to earn a point being down 3-0. Thankfully it didn't, and we're talking about 3 points and the Wizards currently in a playoff spot. Click to continue reading...

Congrats Kerry

0
Quick note tonight, I'll be back with a full write up on the game tomorrow. Wanted to say congratulations to Kerry Zavagnin tonight. In the 57th minute, Zavagnin became the Wizards all time leader in MLS minutes played, passing Nick Garcia. Congrats to Kerry on this fantastic achievement. Click to continue reading...

Line up Shake Up

4
Thad over at The Back Post has the story. It looks like Onalfo is going to be switching things up this weekend with Chivas coming to town on Saturday. Roger Espinoza, Kurt Morsink, and Ryan Pore are dropped in favor of Josh Wolff, Kerry Zavagnin, and rookie Matt Marquess. So we can expect something like this on Saturday it looks like. The Start of Something Big?

5

Darren Huckerby from MLSNET.com

Today's last minute victory over the hated Galaxy in Oakland could be just the push the Earthquakes needed to make a playoff run late in the MLS season. The Quakes who have played solidly much of the season but lacked a scoring punch have now made the type of moves in the international and domestic transfer market that solidify the club as potentially very dangerous in MLS.

Sealy Traded To Quakes

0
For some reason San Jose and Kansas City seem to be nice trading partners. They did it a while back before the SuperDraft when the Quakes sent their number one pick for veteran defender Nick Garcia. Now the two clubs are at it again, this time KC is sending forward Scott Sealy to the Bay [...] Click to continue reading...

Chivas USA 1, Earthquakes 0: A Supporter View

1

It took a lot longer than some might have expected, but Chivas USA has made the rugged climb from near the West basement to first place in the conference. Sure, the gap between first place and sixth place is only three points, but for the Goats, the climb was a victory of sorts.

Moral victories is all the Earthquakes seem to have these days, and even those are hard to come by.

Quick Stat

0
Just got back from Dallas and wanted to post a quick stat from the game last night. Last night's game was Davy Arnaud's 150th game for the Wizards in league play. With his start last night, he passes Wizards great, Mo Johnston on the league games played list. Arnaud is now in 5th place overall now, behind Nick Garcia, Kerry Zavagnin, Preki, and Chris Klein, all of whom have played over 200 games for the Wizards. Click to continue reading...

MLS 2008: Penalties Earned & Conceded

2
A list of all penalties can be found on the league stats page (scroll to the bottom). However, on that page they don't list who earned and conceded the penalties like they used to a few years back. I've always missed that, so by looking through match reports I keep track of it myself.

With only 23 penalties given so far this season, there's not too much to notice on these lists. Click to continue reading...

Struggles continue

1

Yikes. Another loss, this time at home. Highlights weren't pretty either. Conceding three goals to a talented but out of form Crew team can't be good for the confidence. The offensive struggles continue, with only one shot mustered on net all night. I haven't watched the game yet, not sure if I'll get a chance to either.

SELLOUT CROWD, 3-0 Loss

3
Well, the crowd was incredible. We fell 3-0 tonight to Columbus on goals from Marshall and Moreno (2). To all of you out at the park, a wholehearted, THANK YOU. The stands were packed, you were loud, and it was an excellent atmosphere. The new Ink Pavilion kicked off behind the Piojo banner in centerfield, and was a success. Click to continue reading...

Zavagnin Sets Record

0
Last night, Kerry Zavagnin set a team record by appearing in his 274th game in all competitions (league, playoffs, USOC, international) for the Wizards. Zavagnin passes former Wizard Nick Garcia to earn that record. Zavagnin will also tie the team record for league appearances Saturday against Houston. Click to continue reading...

Going Away Party

3

A friend of mine sent me an email saying that tonight at Blonde on the Country Club Plaza there will be a going away party for Wizards defender, Nick Garcia, who was traded to San Jose. I've been told the event will be starting at 10 pm for those interested.

It certainly is sad to see Garcia go, I know plenty of people who weren't overly happy with the move. Click to continue reading...

Appearances for the Wizards

4
Back in June, I posted the list of what Wizards players have played and started over 100 games for the club. Since it's the offseason, and the Wizards leader in both games played and games started (Nick Garcia) was traded away this offseason, I figured I'd update the list and include where the other current Wizards are on the list. Wizards look to change formation and Fulham buys the US National Team

14

Along with the recent departure of Nick Garcia, the news that Jose Burciaga Jr is going to Colorado for more draft picks reveals signs that the Wizards will be looking to play a new formation. The lineup will feature 1 defender (who needs more than Jimmy Conrad anyway?), 6 in the midfield, and 3 strikers.

Ruiz and Garcia on the move

7

Carlos Ruiz on on his way out of FC Dallas and going back to his first MLS team the LA Galaxy. The Galaxy paid an undisclosed amount of allocation money as well as a 2nd round draft pick to bring Ruiz back to LA.

The Kansas City Wizards have sent a quality defender, Nick Garcia, to the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for the first overall pick in the expansion draft that will take place this Friday.

Rapids Get Burciagia

2

The Kansas City Wizards are looking to further rebuild their team beyond today's trade of Nick Garcia to expansion San Jose Earthquakes for their 1st pick (1st overall in the draft). That gives KC the 1st pick overall and the 11th overall picks in the draft. The conventional thinking is that KC is positioning themselves to take promising striker Patrick Nyarko with their new pick.

MLS: An All-Latin* Trade Orgy!!

(* Assuming I botched the usage, could someone hep me to the proper term for all persons of Mexican/Mexican-American/Central American descent?) Holy pre-SuperDraft trading, Batman! Garcia to San Jose for Number 1 Pick

3

After a quiet offseason so far for the Wizards, they jumped right into it today. The Wizards traded veteran defender Nick Garcia to expansion side San Jose for their first round pick, the number 1 pick overall in the draft. To this point, Garcia had spent all 8 of his seasons in the league in Kansas City, coming in as the number 2 pick in the 2000 season. Click to continue reading...

Wizards Fantasy Draft Rounds 1 & 2

1
As I posted on Saturday, I started a Wizards history fantasy draft with a few friends of mine. Here is the first two rounds of the draft. The write ups on each pick are done by the drafter.

1(1). Team Shook - Preki - We were very excited to have the first pick in this draft, and we did a very thorough search to determine which player was deserving of the honor of the #1 pick. Click to continue reading...

Kansas City Wizards 2007 Review: Terriers’ Limitations

Kansas City Wizards Record (W-L-T): 11-12-7; 45 GF, 45 GA Source Material: Schedule/match reports; roster (NOTE: Sorry about the format - e.g. the automatic, uncorrectable double-spacing; I transferred this from Word - which, curiously enough, works on a Mac. Shades of 2000, Wizards Defense Sees them Through

1
Wizards coach, Curt Onalfo has prided himself on saying that the Wizards are a team that was going to come out this season and attack. It showed throughout the regular season as the Wizards would throw numbers forward. In the process, their defense, which had been rock solid started to leak more and more goals. Last night all that changed.

Protecting a 1-0 lead from their home leg, the Wizards brought back signs of the great 2000 season Wizards defense. Click to continue reading...

Reds and Missed Chances Doom Wizards

2
The Wizards saw 2 players sent off and missed numerous good first half chances which ended up dooming the Wizards in front of 32,000 plus fans. Jimmy Conrad and Davy Arnaud both saw red for challenges on Peter Vagenas in the second half.

While Wizards fans will argue over whether the challenges were really red cards or not, I believe that both were certainly justifiable reds. Click to continue reading...

Fines, Suspensions Handed Down from League

4
The results of what was said and done during the KC-Colorado game a few weeks ago have finally been made known by the league. The biggest news, is that Mehdi Ballouchy is getting a 2 game suspension and a $1000 fine for his high elbow on Sasha Victorine right at half time of the match. Honestly I'm disappointed that it was only 2 games. Andy Herron was given a four game suspension for a similar elbow to New England's Jay Heaps earlier this season. Click to continue reading...
