It's the Crew's world and we're all just living in it. Columbus clinches a playoff berth with the win.

In other news, Dallas with a big win put itself in the heart of the playoff picture and Kenny Cooper netted his 15th of the season. Also there was a game with 9 goals. Wild!

Columbus 1 - O New England: Brian's Report

0
I woke up Friday morning with two thoughts already in my mind. First, Vandal-prone was supposed to cover the Crew-Revolution game that night. Second, Tropical Storm Kyle was expected to reach hurricane strength that afternoon and was bearing down on the New England coast. All morning I was haunted by the image of my MLS [. Monday Morning MLS Playoff Glance

9
Week 27 of Major League Soccer's regular season is now in the books, but the playoff picture is not much clearer now than it was before the weekend began. For the first time in weeks, four teams from the Western Conference would make the postseason if it started today.
* Columbus has now moved eight points clear in the race for the Supporters Shield and could clinch the trophy given to the team with the regular season's best record as soon as this weekend if a host of other results fall their way. Click to continue reading...

Rapids hold Revs; Defeat NY in shootout!

0
Colorado held New England to a 1-1 draw at home after taking the title from the Chicago Fire the week before. New England still has only one road victory as a challenger in the UMLSCC.

This week Colorado traveled to New York and history would say that NY should walk away with the title. The Rapids were 0-2-7 (WDL) when playing on the road as the champions. Click to continue reading...

Morning Ticker: USL keeps rolling, MLS keeps stumbling in CONCACAF Champions League

1

It was another good night for USL teams and another disappointing showing for MLS teams in the CONCACAF Champions League.

The Montreal Impact faced Mexican power Atlante on Wednesday and posted a 0-0 tie to stay in a tie for first place in its group with Atlante.

D.C. United's night wasn't quite as fun.

INCOMING "Goodbye Joe Public, Hello Columbus!" Gregory Richardson to MLS

Courtesy of the Trinidad and Tobago Express....

"United States Major League Soccer (MLS) clubs Columbus Crew, New England Revolution and San Jose Earthquakes all wanted to sign the fleet-footed Guyanese, following his terrific showing over two legs in the CONCACAF Champions League against the Revolution, including scoring a hat trick in Public's 4-0 victory, in the away leg in Boston earlier this month.

The second and third ten of CONCACAF

By request from one of my readers, here are the teams ranked from 11-30 on the CONCACAF club coefficient list. Like I said, the cut-and-paste job was a pain, and the font sizes are out of whack. But there it is. Houston Dynamo USA 24.000 Puntarenas FC Costa Rica 23.771 Pérez Zeledón Costa Rica 21.771 Herediano Costa Rica 21. Click to continue reading...

Colorado Rapids 1-1 New England Revolution

0

What was with the end of that match? Calling the game in the middle of a breakaway? Next to just before a PK, that is the most absurd time a ref could possibly call a game in soccer. If you watched the game from your home (at least the part that made it on the air), you heard a lot of complaining about inconsistent officiating, but over all, it seemed pretty normal for MLS.

Leftist Brigade Rankings (Sept. 22)

0
It was an odd week in the standings. The top teams from last week did well and so did most of the teams near the bottom. The middle-of-the-pack, though, had some downright terrible losses as DC, New York and Chicago were all embarrassed soundly.

It had a slight affect on the table, though the top and bottom didn't change too much. Click to continue reading...

MLS round-up: week 26

Still tied for last in the West, but only two points out of third.

How bizarre.

But Landon Donovan is the centerpiece of this week on my end. Three more goals for him brings the season total to 19. That's the second highest total since 2002. Yowza!

That's also five more than Kenny Cooper, his nearest pursuer in the golden boot race. Click to continue reading...

Point Just Fine with Revs

The Revolution earned their first point in Colorado since 2004 with a 1-1 draw against the Rapids on Saturday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

Nineteen-year-old Gambian International Kenny Mansally came on at halftime with the Revs trailing 1-0 and less than five minutes later potted his first goal since May 11 to equalize for the Revs.

Dallas Preview

1

The Fire come into this game on the back of their worst performance of the season against Colorado last weekend. With the playoff's just around the corner this is not the time to be in a slump and the Fire will be looking to do that against a Dallas team that if fighting for their playoff lives. Perhaps the most surprising and disappointing thing for the Fire has been their poor performances at home.

Montreal IMPACTS, Santos SURVIVES, Marathon SHOCKS

More of Matchday One in the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League was played last night...

Colorado Rapids 2-0 Chicago Fire

0

Who doesn't love a giant-killer game? Despite being at home, the Rapids were the dogs on Sunday and they knew it. They had to shut down Blanco and McBride, and they did it. That's going to (or at least should boost the confidence). It should also help that this was our first back-to-back win all year.

Ralston Named Player Of The Week

Like a fine wine, Steve Ralston just seems to get better with age. The 34-year-old New England Revolution midfielder picked up MLS Player of the Week honors in week 25 for his goal and two-assist performance against Chivas USA last Thursday in the Revs' 4-0 victory. It was Ralston's first game back in the lineup after missing three straight matches with back spasms. Click to continue reading...

MLS Table Talk - Vive La Parité!

Six games to play and still no definite answers--vive la parité! Let's do a quick rundown of the table thus far. Almeria Thoughts

I didn't watch the Valencia-Almeria match yesterday as the game wasn't shown here in the United States. So instead of reveling in our 2-2 draw against Unai Emery's former squad, I was treated to the New England Patriots pasting my New York Jets (the Levante of the National Football League) with a quarterback who hadn't started since high school .

MLS round-up: week 25

Rock bottom. You know it is when Beckham is booed.

That's where the Los Angeles Galaxy sit with a lowly 26 points. The poor suckers lost to 2-0 to Kansas City on Saturday, a game that was also noteworthy for its 'goal of the year' candidate strike by Davy Arnaud.

I'll see if I can find it. Click to continue reading...

MLS Playoff Race Closer Than Ever

Some interesting matchups and nail-biting wins shook up the MLS playoff hunt even more last weekend. With just six games to play, some teams took an important step towards qualification while others foundered and foolishly threw away a chance to seize control of their own destiny. Fire take title; lose to Rapids

Chicago defeated NY 1-0 at home last week on a goal by Stephen King in the 36th minute.
This is the Fire's 17th title and the 29th time they have won at home. They are also now the 5th team to win 10 challenges at home.

Next up for Chicago was a trip to Colorado. Until today it had been 16 games since the champion won the title and dropped it the next game. Click to continue reading...

So what did they miss out on?

0
The elimination of the New England Revolution and Chivas USA at the preliminary round of the Champions League was a blow to MLS' image. But what did those teams and the other six eliminated sides miss out on by not participating in the group stage of the Champions League? Obviously they will have less to focus on during the course of the season, but the financial implications won't be clear for some time. Click to continue reading...
