Maybe Neven ISN’T A Backstabber!

7
Looks like Sunil Gulati saw that FOX story today too, because he immediately reached out to Subotic's representation for confirmation.  You'll remember from my earlier post, that Subotic said that wearing another crest besides the USA would be "kinda like backstabbing." According to Ives, when reached for comment, Sunil said: "We have spoken to Neven's representative and [. Click to continue reading...

Neven Subotic Makes His Choice

4
FOX Sports is channeling a Serbian news report that Neven Subotic has accepted the callup for the Serbian National Team. Looks like  Subotic has turned his back on the USA and Bosnia-Herzegovina, his other two choices. If you want to check out something cool, head over and listen to this interview podcast with Subotic from November [. Click to continue reading...

Update: USA Loses Out On Subotic? Not So Fast!

10
Fox Sports is citing a Serbian news source indicating that Borussia Dortmund's Neven Subotic has decided to play for Serbia, not the USA. I'm skeptical of this report for a few reasons; first, if Subotic was going to make such an announcement, his club would be among the first to release the news (and BVB insiders tell us that Subotic has said nothing about any such decision). FIFA: Subotic Can't Play For Germany

14
Borussia Dortmund's 19 year-old Yugoslavian-born American defender Neven Subotic has been ruled ineligible to play for Germany by FIFA. German coach Joachim Loew took interest in Subotic after his explosion onto the Bundesliga scene this fall in a series of outstanding performances for BVB. So, instead of trying to grab another player through naturalization, Germany will need to look elsewhere for a new central defender. Click to continue reading...

Neven Subotic: Red, White, and Blue After All?

So if you've been paying attention this past week, it turns out Germany is unable to pursue Subotic for their national team. It looks like standout defender Neven Subotic is one step closer to being a US player after FIFA ruled against Germany's bid to make him one of theirs.  FIFA cited a rule that states a player can't switch to a country of which he wasn't a citizen before he took part in his first FIFA [...] Click to continue reading...

The Bundesliga XI (Round 6)

1
Eilhoff (Arminia Bielefeld) Eight saves had Arminia within seconds of their first road win in 13 months, but poor marking cost Arminia a chance to break this jinx. Nonetheless, they came away from a trip to Frankfurt with points after being outplayed and out-shot. Porcello (Karlsruhe) Scored one goal and set up the second as KSC ended [. Americans Abroad: Wednesday Rewind

7

It took a while, but Freddy Adu finally made his first start for AS Monaco. The U.S. Olympic midfielder made the starting XI in Monaco's French Cup match against Paris St. Germain. It could be Adu's last start for a while after a goal from one-time Chicago Fire target Fabrice Pancrate gave PSG the win, thus ending Adu's potential source for major playing time.

Stuttgart, bidding to dislodge last season's Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich, got their campaign off to a solid start Sunday in winning 3-1 away at promoted Borussia Moenchengladbach.
With Bayern held to a 2-2 home draw the previous day by old rivals Hamburg the stage was set for Armin Veh's side to take advantage and his side impressed in securing full points with goals from Thomas Hitzlsperger, Ciprian Marica and Mario Gomez, all before half-time. Click to continue reading...

1
The Manchester coach is being quoted as saying these words: If Ronaldo leaves, I'm going too.

Now Sir Ferguson has been misquoted a bunch recently.

And even if this was an actual coach, it's obviously tongue-in-cheek.

Subotic and Dortmund Down Bayern Munich 2-1

15
Borussia Dortmund's new head coach Juergen Klopp made a good impression with the BVB fans last night as his new-look team beat Bayern Munich 2-1 in the preseason T-Home Super Cup. Included in the starting 11 was young American defender Neven Subotic whom Klopp brought with him from FSV Mainz.

Subotic looked nervous during the early going but started to show his stuff in the 26th minute with a terrific 45-meter pass to Delron Buckley to set up a dangerous chance for BVB. Click to continue reading...
