USL Needs to Compete Directly against MLS

11
The United Soccer Leagues has been a doormat to the MLS for too long.  They have allowed MLS to walk all over them.  MLS has taken multiple cities from the USL to put into their league and have not suffered any kind of legal troubles or image issues.  This has been a coup for MLS.  They [...] Click to continue reading...

New Jersey Nets to Help Fans Find Jobs

Heard this story on the radio during the commute today. Apparently the NBA's New Jersey Nets are to begin a promotion aimed at helping their fans find employment. Basically, they will hand out 1,500 game tickets free to unemployed fans if the fans submit their resumes (CVs) to the organization. Click to continue reading...

Americanizing Soccer for the U.S. Sports Fan

5
In order for Soccer to find the success it seeks in the U.S., it must make changes to the traditional rules without changing the integrity of the sport.  Soccer can be that viable alternative for sports fans in the U.S. if it plays with Amercian rules and also markets the game to U.S. sports fans [. First Impressions - L.A. Galaxy 5 : 2 D.C. United

2

The Jordan rules for the NBA were well now. But with Donovan and Beckham on the Galaxy, it is perhaps fitting that MLS adds its own twist, going for the more extreme version. Enter the LA Starfucker rules...

If it were the red card to Burch alone, that would be one thing. Burch probably was guilty of a foul, but given that you see the same thing along the touchline and goal line in every match, a yellow would have been harsh, let alone a red.

Sports Leagues as Government bodies

0
From Matt: Can we analogize different major sports leagues to different branches of the federal government? Yes we can! Presidential politics is like the star-driven NBA while congress is the NFL and the judiciary is MLB. It's surprisingly plausible. And I'll extend — state government is like MLS with people occasionally telling themselves they'll pay attention [. Click to continue reading...

West Ham'da Bir Emekli: 6 Numaralı Forma

0
Click to continue reading...

Why The New Price Of MLS Talent Has European Clubs Hunting For Bargains

10
For the National Basketball Association, it has been a turn-around of a situation it has long held advantage of.  In the last couple of weeks, the league has seen several current players or draft picks decide to turn down the chance to play in the NBA in order to move to, or stay in, Europe, and more [. MLS = European Basketball?

15
The thought occurred to me just now while watching the US take apart Canada, and the commentators were talking about Josh Childress, formerly of Stanfurd, and other players "defecting" overseas to play ball. It was not about a matter of not being able to cut it in the NBA, but the offer was just [.. Click to continue reading...

Pros and Cons of the MLS All-Star Game

1
In a few days the MLS will host their annual All-Star game in Toronto at BMO Stadium. This year they will be put up against West Ham a middle to low end of the table club in the EPL.

But lets get down to brass tacks (I never really got that saying.. does anyone really know where that comes from). Click to continue reading...

Mark Cuban buys Major League Soccer

44

It is simply amazing that Mark Cuban was able to buy Major League Soccer.  The Texas billionaire was previously owner of the Dallas Mavericks of the NBA, but now he owns so much more.  His recent purchase was not limited to Major League Soccer - but also included many other top professional sports leagues and FIFA.

Slavery in Soccer? I Don’t Think So

0
It's amusing how the term "slavery" gets thrown around these days. In November of 2003, Rasheed Wallace compared the NBA's Zero-Tolerance policy concerning arguing with referees to slavery. "That's retarded," the eloquent Wallace opined. "In my mind, it's kind of like a slave and master or father and son. Click to continue reading...

American Televisions Tuning in to Soccer

2
3.8 million Americans tuned in to ABC to watch the network's first ever U.S. broadcast of a European Championship final. And as we know, they were treated to a great match of attacking, honest football.

Of course 3.8 is a fraction of the number who tune in to watch the NFL's championship game, the Superbowl. Click to continue reading...

Showdown in Chinatown - Henry, Reyna, Nash Deliver

Alot of things I didn't think were possible happened yesterday.

#1 - A park in the middle of New Yorks infamous Chinatown district was packed on all ends by thousands of footie fanatics dying for a glimpse of some of their favorite stars.

#2 - I got to see TiTi Henry, Robbie Fowler, Kalou, Reyna, Altidore, Angel, Jason Kidd, Barbosa, Baron Davis and and the infamous Steve McManaman play some footie from about a half foot distance.

What’s Avram doing in LA?

2

He's giving Phil Jackson advice. Wait, what?  Avram the Gone has been a guest of the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers this week as the team attempts to revive its championship series with the Boston Celtics. Grant & Phil chatted it up before the Lakers' 103-98 win in Hollywood on Sunday.

"We talked about the situation that happened with Chelsea in the Manchester game, the disappointment John Terry had," Jackson said.

MLS Expansion - Could NBA's Steve Nash bring a MLS team to Vancouver?

9
There are three facts that no one can argue. One, the NBA's Steve Nash is a huge soccer fan. Two, the USL's Vancouver Whitecaps would love to move to MLS. Three, MLS has been more then just a little impressed with the results out of Toronto, thus is very open to the idea of another team in Canada. Click to continue reading...

What a Day!

4
All I can say is what a day. Sunday might go down as one of the best days of sports in a very long time from Tigers dramatic putt on the 18th to force a playoff at the US Open, to the Lakers holding on to beat the Celtics in the NBA Finals to force a game six in Boston, to the Turks dramatic win over the Czechs in Euro 2008 at the end of the day all I could say was Wow! Drogba snuffs KG

6

I dislike the Boston Celtics. Let me rephrase that: I hate the Celtics. Paul Pierce has the ugliest game known to man. James Posey isn't that far behind. And PJ Brown, well, useless.

But their icon, the man they traded about 32 players for, Kevin Garnett, is a Chelsea fan.

Stairway to Heaven

Putting your hands on a major trophy is something that all athletes live for but in some sports they hand out of the trophy in a better way then most. In the United States, when a team wins a major trophy like the Super Bowl or the NBA Finals, they roll out a stage on wheels and present the trophy to the captain of the team.
