Two great Aussie Coaches?

0
Gary Van Egmond is still the best, but Aurelio Vidmar is on the move...and quick.

Van Egmond's side were a goal down to Adelaide and having used their three subs and when Jason Hoffman got injured they were down to ten.

But Van Egmond did what few coaches ever do even when they have a full complement. Click to continue reading...

Adelaide: Finals footy alive in September

2
Adelaide taking their city to Asia, and I ain't talking about the Crows!

Anyone who saw Urawa Reds or Gamba Osaka take on Sydney and Melbourne in previous Asian Champions League encounters will have expected the cashed up Japanese club Kashima Antlers to give Adelaide a good thumping in the home game of the Asian Champions League Quarter Finals. A-League preview

0
Key Questions and answers this week:
Will Mark Bosnich get caught out again either kicking or coming to clear the lines. Yes and it will be fun to watch, or maybe embarrassing.
Can Perth win at home? Not this week.
Will the Jets turn up? Not unless Van Egmond solves the central midfield woes. Click to continue reading...

Nearpost Host Russ Gibbs asks the question.....

The Olyroos: Where was the Magic?

By Russ Gibbs

So, that's that then. After building it up for several months in advance the Australian Olympic team have bowed out of the Beijing Games with barely a whimper having picked up a solitary point from their three group matches. Click to continue reading...

Aussies out of Under 23 World Cup

0
Australia went out of the Olympics tonight. They lost 1-0 in Tianjin to the Ivory Coast.

And whilst they gave perhaps their best performance of the tournament they never really looked convincing in the the final third, not tonight, or indeed in the whole tournament.

They told us they were a great group of players, battle hardened having qualified through Asia. Click to continue reading...

Olyroos Lack Teeth

2
The Olympic team was announced today and I must say I am disappointed. Greame Arnold has left out Djite, Burns, Williams, Vidosic. He has bizarrely used age as a reason for the decision not to take Djite or Burns. These are the same players that have played against the likes of Kevin Muscat and Craig Moore week in week out. Are Aussie Clubs getting a cut?

0
FourFourTwo are reporting Nicky Carle is being transferred to Crystal Palace for $2 million.

But are the Jets getting a cut?

Nicky will get 10%. That's a cool $200,000 as he didn't ask for a transfer, but what aobut the Jets did they have a sell-on clause.

Say 25%.

Carle earned the club $600,000 when he was transferred to Turkey. Click to continue reading...

The Summer So Far

9
The Summer transfer window is not nearly closed yet, so a good bit more will likely happen. I hope so anyway. We still have some serious holes to fill. But things have slowed to such a point that there is little to write about or even link to. Saja is supposed to officially sign today, [...] Click to continue reading...

How far can Nathan go?
Nathan Burns set the Asian Champions League alight last night. It was the most stunning individual display by an Australian since the Aussies have entered the tournament.

But how far can he go?

He created three goals in ten minutes changing the game, and more importantly, winning the game single handedly for his team. Click to continue reading...

No Ognenovski, no Burns, no Coyne, no Thwaite. Any takers?

The Melbourne Victory doesn't seem to be having much luck attracting new players. Nathan Burns has re-signed with Adelaide United; and indications are that Sasa Ognenovski will be heading over there too. The Queensland Roar defender already seems to be burning bridges with his current club: last week, he got in a fight with Roar goalkeeper [. Click to continue reading...
