Soccer, and That’s All - Almost

20
As the Senate gets ready to vote on a new bill to stave off economic disaster, and Sarah prepares (feverishly) to debate, and George Will joins the ranks of those who see her as unqualified to serve ... and some (unfortunately) find themselves feeling sorry for the lipsticked pitbull ... my thoughts turn (feverishly) to [. Of Phelps and Other Phenomena (Like the USWNT)!

5
Michael Phelps broke Mark Spitz' gold medal record last night -an amazing feat, indeed. I don't know about you, but I find such milestones diminished by the hype ... the marketing ... the hoopla ... the commentary. The events and the raw footage about the events is enough. The look on Michael [.. Click to continue reading...

Piercy, Phelps, Phillies, Phantastic Phootball Phanatics … and of Course the USWNT … and Elvis!

3
First (from The Writer's Almanac), a wonderful poem by Marge Piercy to start your day with something introspective - before diving into the usual sports-centric deluge! This poem runs along the thought-path I was pursuing last night just before sleep. Guess it may be time to get reacquainted with myself . Click to continue reading...

Still Soaring … So Some Sundry Soccer Stuff … Sorry (non)Soccer Surfers and Smatterers!

2
Wow, wow, wow. Even the Phillies' loss has not dampened my amazement and feeling of great good fortune. The USWNT is through to the quarterfinals (not too surprising) and has won their group (pretty darn surprising) and is starting to score some goals (excellent news). To date, five different people have scored, [. Click to continue reading...

HollyCornblog’s Hops, Favre, Philly, and a Kai Tidbit

1
HollyCornblog has sent me a couple of photos of her growing hops (remember that huge hop trellis?). They're looking nice and healthy, don't you think? (It's also very important that I get HollyCornblog's name in here more frequently - because with the Olympics underway, Pia is appearing all the time - and that pisses HollyCornblog off! Countdown to Norway … Study Up!

2
I'm back from my quick road trip ... which was very successful and included a drive through the Delaware Water Gap region - an area I haven't visited in years. It was quite beautiful - more so than I remembered (from driving through in my childhood). Much of it has been reclaimed as [...]SHARETHIS. Click to continue reading...

USWNT Wins Match But Loses Wambach

4
In a game featuring lots of possession, lots of tough tackles, and lots to build on, the USWNT prevailed over Brazil, again by a 1-0 score. Unfortunately, they lost stalwart forward Abby Wambach who went down after a first half collision and, as it turns out, broke two bones in her leg. She's [... Click to continue reading...

USWNT Wins Another (And Other News of the World)

4
The USWNT defeated Norway 4-0 yesterday in Fredrikstad, and Abby Wambach scored her 99th career goal! Next up is Sweden on July 5th. Interestingly, the US had not defeated Norway in Norway before - losing and tying their two previous matches there. The Norwegians must love it that the USWNT's first win [.
