D.C. United will make what could be its last stand for a playoff berth tonight as it plays host to the New England Revolution in a match it cannot afford to lose.

D.C. United at Chicago Fire: Your Running Commentary

1

The Chicago Fire and D.C. United rekindle one of the most heated rivalries in MLS tonight as D.C. travels to Toyota Park to face Cuauhtemoc Blanco for the first time since his U.S. Open Cup dust-up against D.C. last month.

The match marks the debut of newly-acquired Fire forward Brian McBride, who will make his first appearance since leaving Fulham and signing with MLS.

Red Bulls 4, D.C. United 1: A Supporter's View

2

Blowouts are nothing new in the Red Bulls-D.C. United rivalry. In fact, they are practically a tradition. What isn't part of that tradition is the team from New Jersey being the one doing the smacking around.

The roles were reversed on Sunday, with the Red Bulls responding to a D.

Dynamo 2, D.C. United 0: A Supporter's View

1

The game that seemed like it would never be played finally was played last Wednesday and the result left you wondering whether D.C. United got tired of waiting.

Houston man-handled D.C., 2-0, at RFK Stadium in a game that had been postponed twice and was delayed for hours on the night it was finally completed.

D.C. United 4, Red Bulls 1: A Supporter's View

1

D.C. United's rapid recovery and rise up the East standings took a familiar step last weekend, as the Red Bulls rekindled the roll of D.C. punching bag in a 4-1 blowout loss. The match showed just how much better D.C. is playing than it was a month ago, while also revealing for all to see just how far away the Red Bulls are from being a legitimate contender.

New York Red Bulls at D.C. United: Running Commentary

0

The task will be a tough one for the Red Bulls. They have to travel to D.C. United, where they never win, and find a way to win without the departed Jozy Altidore and the injured Juan Pablo Angel and Claudio Reyna. D.C. will be missing players as well, but will be heavily favored to continue its recent hot streak.

D.C. United 2, Chicago Fire 1: A Supporter's View

1

Who said there's no place like home?

Not the Chicago Fire, which continued its struggles at Toyota Park. A week off didn't keep the Fire from dropping another decision at home, leaving a nice-sized crowd wondering where that unstoppable team they've been watching on TV was.

Revolution 2, D.C. United 2: A Supporter's View

1

D.C. United's climb out of the Eastern Conference hit a snag in New England last Thursday. D.C. was up two goals and playing the type of soccer most of us expected them to play.

Then the defense collapsed yet again.

New England rebounded from an awful first half to erase the two-goal deficit as Matt Reis kept his team in the match yet again with a series of acrobatic saves.

Chivas USA 3, D.C. United 1: Supporter's View

2

(Apologies to D.C. fans for not posting this Supporter's View from the weekend sooner. Although it's a bit late, the D.C. perspective offered by Joel Sanderson still pretty much applies even after last night's loss to Toronto FC.)

D.C. looked like it would find a victory out west, a precious three points to stem the tide and offer the club some sorely-needed relief from a disappointing early season.

The D.C. United debacle continues

2

Normally, a hard-fought and closely-contested 1-0 loss on the road would be seen as a disappointment but not a disastrous result.

Normally.

When your team is in the midst of a stretch of five losses in six matches then another loss becomes far more significant.

Wednesday's 1-0 loss to Toronto FC drops D.

D.C. United at Toronto FC: Your Running Commentary

The heat is officially on.

D.C. United head to BMO Field in Toronto tonight desparately needing a victory to stop a terrible losing skid, and possibly to keep their manager from being fired.

Tom Soehn insists that his team is is ready to turn things around and will try to do what no team has done all year, win at BMO Field.

D.C. United 4, Real Salt Lake 1: A Supporter's View

1

When D.C. United walked off the field at Rice-Eccles Stadium two weeks ago, the sting of a 4-0 blowout loss to Real Salt Lake was only tempered by the knowledge that the chance for revenge would come very soon.

That chance came on Saturday and D.C. took full advantage, riding two penalty kicks and two stunning strikes to earn a 4-1 victory at RFK Stadium.

You know, Gallardo's goal IS pretty good

0

As some of you know, I called the contest for this week's MLS Goal of the Week over, naming Amado Guevara's free kick as the unquestioned winner.

Well, he might have some competition.

Marcelo Gallardo's volley blast deserves consideration, though I still think Guevara gets the edge.

Columbus 2, D.C. United 1: A Supporter's View

When the Columbus Crew traveled to RFK Stadium last Thursday it was expected to be a predictable match. D.C. would get its attack going and post a win while the Crew would struggle on the road and lose in D.C. yet again.

The outcome was anything but predictable. The Crew thoroughly outplayed D.

D.C. United at Real Salt Lake: Your Running Commentary

D.C. United fans don't need to be reminded how tough it has been for their club to get results at Real Salt Lake. It is one of the more frustrating developments of the past two seasons considering how much better D.C. has been than RSL.

This time around, Real Salt Lake is an improved team that has shown good flashes early on.

Toronto FC at D.C. United: Your Running Commentary

Two games, one MLS and one CONCACAF Champions Cup, and zero goals. The D.C. United attack was supposed to be an unstoppable force but the flow of goals has yet to come.

It may come today against a Toronto FC defense that is still looking for the right combination.
