Photo of the Day: Gallardo is back

3

Marcelo Gallardo is back in the district after about two weeks of rehab in his native Argentina. Media spoke with United's #10 and here's a few excerpts, via translation and my poorly written notes:

"I feel a lot better and I hope to finish the season on a positive note... The most important thing was to get rid of the pain I was feeling all the time.

Los Angeles Galaxy at Chicago Fire: Your Running Commentary

0

The Los Angeles Galaxy visit Toyota Park tonight to take on the Chicago Fire in what amounts to a must-win match if LA hopes to resurrect its faint playoff hopes. The Fire will be looking to avoid a three-match losing streak, and a three-match skid against Western Conference opponents at that.

Leonidas (the) Brave Rankings (Sept. 15)

1
Okay, so not sure if he had the Brave following his name but King Leonidas ruled. just watched 300 last night for, oh, the 300th time. Good movie, lots of action, good fighting. MLS... not always the most action, some good fights, some dull ones. Still, not a whole lot of intrigue right now. East is pretty much decided save for positioning. Click to continue reading...

How Nicol is undermining his own success

4
0-4.

That's not the type of score you want to see on a Saturday night, nevermind a Saturday night in which you were holding down the fort at home while braving the remnants of Tropical Storm Hannah. The sound of branches snapping off the trees and rain pelting the windows only added to the sense of portentousness that pervaded through the flickering television screen as it struggled mightily to carry the Revolution-Crew match into the living room. DC United Reaction - Hallelujah!

1
God, that felt good. The losing streak ends at four, and it's back to winning ways in the league as United holds serve at home against KC. Missing a big chunk of the starting lineup to suspension and injury, I suppose any sort of win would have been acceptable tonight. Still, there was something vaguely unsatisfying about the 2-0 victory, but we'll get to that. Click to continue reading...

Tony's Take: Morenology

3

During the 2004 season, D.C. United played a game late in the season in Columbus which they lost 1-0. At the end of the game Jaime Moreno had a chance to save a point for D.C. with a diving header. Jon Busch made a great reflex save to preserve the points for the Crew. At the hotel after the game I saw Jaime and I told him what a great effort the header was and I couldn't believe that Busch saved it.

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS HEAD COACH CURT ONALFO

The Red Bulls Rebound

3

I won't deny it. I thought the Red Bulls were finished.

Watching D.C. United shred the Red Bulls to the tune of a 4-1 rout two weeks ago, I couldn't help but see the defeat as the first step in a total collapse.

SBI MLS Power Rankings: Week 13

11

Call it the Curse of the No. 1 spot.

FC Dallas was once No. 1 in the SBI MLS Power Rankings, then the Hoops promptly fell apart. The Columbus Crew had it for a while, but eventually suffered a losing streak. Most recently the Chicago Fire grabbed the top spot and hasn't won a match since.

RailHawks Look to Snap Losing Streak Against Rhinos

1
The Carolina RailHawks continue their long roadtrip with games Friday night in Rochester and Sunday afternoon in Montreal. The RailHawks are in the midst of a 3 game league losing streak -- and a 3 league match goal scoring drought as well. History is not on the RailHawks side tonight, as they take an 0-2-2 streak against the Rhinos, who are riding a 4 game league unbeaten streak themselves, into PAETEC Park.
