GEORGE TOWN: Cash strapped Perak will get to see through their commitments in the quarter-finals of the AFC Cup tournament.

Upgrade, eh?

2
Maybe you've already seen it, or not. This is the new Wigan Athletic badge for the 2008-09 season. David Whelan and the boys seem to be focused on shedding that 'unfancied' term. It might infrinige on Lebanon's national flag, yet it's certainly better than that bird-and-suit of armor mish-mash. Call me crazy, but I'm drinking that Latics Kool-Aid (mmm. India, the Sleeping Giant

1
I have always been staggered by the fact that India does so poorly on the international sporting stage. India is a cricket power, I know, and they're strong at field hockey as well (though they have struggled of late), but what about the Olympics? The land of over one billion people claimed just one medal, a bronze, at the 2000 Games and just one silver at the 2004 Olympics. Click to continue reading...

Middle Eastern soccer confusion

1
In a recent World Cup qualifier against Lebanon, Saudi Arabia played the Syrian nat'l anthem instead of the Lebanese.

Then after a 2-1 win, Saudi Arabia fired their Brazilian coach Helios dos Anjos despite being on the verge of advancing.

I think the heat is getting to 'em. Click to continue reading...

Uzbekistan : The Dark Horses

1
Another great article from SBS's Scott McIntrye. I am really enjoying his Asian articles, he has really opened my eyes to aspects of our new federation I have never considered.

Uzbekistan is a case in point, I can't say I really knew anything about this team before the Asian Cup last year and they surprised me by the quality of football they played. Click to continue reading...

In Lebanon, Supporters Take to the Rooftops

5
In most countries around the world, football supporters often live in fractious relations with the authorities. But there's always somewhere that has it worse unless you live in Lebanon. There, James Montague of the IHT tells us, all supporters have been banned from attending matches, for fear that their presence could raise tensions amongst rival [. Click to continue reading...

World Cup matches force India to modify program

1
The All India Football Federation is hoping its Lebanon counterpart will assist in modifying the the pre-World Cup 2010 draw issued by the Asian Football Confederation. With Round One of the pre-qualifiers scheduled for the middle of India's overcrowded domestic football calendar, the AIFF has sent a message to Lebanon asking them to agree to play an advanced return leg preferably within one week Click to continue reading...

Mahindra Utd worried about next game in Lebanon

0
Indian club Mahindra United has requested the Asian Football Confederation to shift its 25 September AFC Cup quarter-final away match against Lebanon's Al Nejmeh to a neutral venue. "The situation in Lebanon scares us," Mahindra United coach Derrick Pereira told the Goan Herald. Last month two Al Nejmeh players were killed in a bomb explosion, which rocked Beirut – venue of the match — killing 10 Click to continue reading...
