Rafael Benitez has lost his battle to prevent Javier Mascherano from going to Beijing after he was yesterday named in Argentina's Olympic squad.

Tottenham have made a bid for Argentina and Villareal playmaker, Juan Roman Riquelme, according to the playmaker's agent.

It is said that Villareal are willing to part of with Riquelme after the player spent the second half of last season back in Argentina with Boca Juniors. Reports mention that Tottenham had made an approach for Riquelme for a fee of around 10 million pounds.
