En un partido lleno de fuertes entradas y tarjetas, Brasil goleó 3-0 a una selección chilena que nunca se encontró en el campo de juego, y decendió al sexto lugar de la clasificación sudamericana rumbo a Sudáfrica 2010.

Había muchas expectativas por lo que pudiera hacer el equipo dirigido por el argentino Marcelo Bielsa, frente a una selección brasileña debilitada en los últimos tiempos, pero "La Roja" nunca fue efectiva y dio todas las facilidades al rival para que los venciera en casa.
