Everyone thinks it's Sigi!

1
Sigi Schmid to be the Sounders FC coach.

That's what everyone is saying, so I figured I'd pass along the news.

Ives has him as the 5:1 favorite and Goal.com calls him a "slam dunk choice".

He's currently coaching the greatest team in the land, the Columbus Crew and used to coach the U. Click to continue reading...

OUTGOING: "Johnny X" from Red Bull NY Youth Academy to Royal Racing FC Montegnée

26
Special thanks to an MLSR reader for the tip off.

Remember the promising Haitian striker Johnny Exantus from Red Bull New York's youth academy? The same one Ives Galarcep said that Red Bull might sign in a year or two because he was not yet "ready for MLS?"

Well like another young prospect who Steve Goff said was "not yet ready for MLS", Bryan "Mookie" Arguez who made the jump from DC United's reserves to German club Hertha Berlin, Johnny X has also made the jump to European football. Click to continue reading...

Sounders FC coaching rumors

3
Goal Seattle has a great rundown of rumors and news surrounding the team's coaching search.

Added is a report from Ives that the K.C. technical director Peter Vermes turned down the job.

While current Sounder coach Brian Schmetzer remains in the pool, there is one name that's getting some mention. Click to continue reading...

Arena to be named next Galaxy coach

At least ESPN and Ives think so.

Good luck with that. Hope that 4-5-1 works out for ya.

On the positive, at least that inept GM is gone. Click to continue reading...

Video: Gooch Scores a Brace in Belgian Super Cup

1
Our man Ives from SBI just posted a rundown of how all of the Americans Outsourced to Europe™ fared on the continent over the weekend. One player was left off of the list an he probably had the biggest game of them all: Oguchi Onyewu.

The Standard Liege defender had a game a large as his body, scoring twice in a 3-1 over Anderlecht in the Belgian Super Cup. Click to continue reading...

(Some of) Your Questions (Finally) Answered

8

Admit it, you probably gave up on ever seeing the answers to the last SBI Q&A session. It's okay, I don't blame you.

More than month has passed since readers submitted the last bunch of questions, but after a very busy July, I was able to knock out at least half of the record-setting batch of questions.

All The Bull: Cunningham trade?

4

- Would Jeff Cunningham be the cure for our goal scoring needs up top? Would he be a good fit with Angel's game? If you are day dreaming, not so fast. Cunningham's baggage has ruled him out of the Red Bulls plans, so says King Blogger Ives. A Cunningham signing, especially in light of TFC's current scoring woes, would have been a grasp of desperation by the organization.

Roster Roundup - The Knives are Out!

0
Over at SBI, Ives says his sources tell him United is actively shopping one of their midfielders after picking up Vide. What's the over/under on Dyachenko? The only other one I think we might be looking to unload would be the disappointing Kirk, considering we're entertaining a new right mid on trial. Click to continue reading...

CLAUDIO REYNA RETIRES!

1

I am in shock. Seriously. I mean, we all expected Reyna to pull a "Djorkaeff" and simply fade into the history books. This is something else all together.

I have to credit ESPN with this gem. Though Ives also says he was the first to report.

Reyna is gone folks. For reals.

So the question now remains - what of the DP?

All The Bull: 7/14

3

+ Jorge Rojas is in camp with the team, as are Pietravallo, Cichero and Jimenez. All would like this weekends Galaxy game to be their debut, but none can be confirmed. I guess they have 4 days of training to prove their worth.

+ George Welcome is in camp as well.

Olsen v. Reyna - A Contrast

0

Last night, Goff broke the news that Ben Olsen could possibly be on the gameday roster today against Los Angeles or in Tuesday's Open Cup match against Rochester. Olsen declined to comment, and when even Olsen won't speak about it, you have to know something is up. I doubt he'll play today, because he can't possibly be ready to deal with the pace of the Galaxy.

You Write the Caption: The Osorio Edition

2

It has been a good while since the last installment of You Write the Caption but I can tell you that this week SBI will have at least two contests.

Today's photo, courtesy of ISIphotos.com, is of New York Red Bulls head coach Juan Carlos Osorio, who has done an admirable job leading his new club to a 5-4-4 mark despite a myriad of injuries and the transfer of Jozy Altidore.

Revolution 2, Dynamo 0: A Supporter's View

1

Playing without Taylor Twellman and Shalrie Joseph, two of the league's best players, New England showed off its depth in beating another short-handed team, the Houston Dynamo, for the second time this season. The 2-0 road win has helped push the Revs atop the Eastern Conference and has folks talking about them finally breaking that MLS Cup jinx.

New York Signs Columbian Striker

10
As reported earlier on Ives, the Red Bulls signed Colombian striker Oscar Echeverry. The 30-year-old forward should help added some depth to a solid attack for Juan Carlos Osorio. Plus, more importantly, he will he there for matches that Jozy Altidore will miss this summer with the national team for the Olympics and other duties. Click to continue reading...

Altidore Almost Sent To Reading

23
I must say, after reading this from Ives a bit ago, the MLS and New York Red Bulls showed their secrecy once more on how they handle the media. But you read the title correctly, Jozy Altidore was nearly sold to EPL side Reading last month during the transfer window. As Ives put it: The bid was [...] Click to continue reading...

Mastroeni to Chivas or New England?

Looks as though DC is not in the cards for Pablo Mastroeni now. According to sources, the Rapids are actively shopping Mastroeni, who is set to [. Click to continue reading...

Henry to Red Bulls? Maybe in 2010

16
Good ol' Ives posted this gem yesterday about the possibility of Thierry Henry coming to play in New York for the Red Bulls in the future. In a recent interview with the New York Times, Henry talked about his love for the city of New York and his desire to play there sometime before he retires. "I [...] Click to continue reading...
