Award 5: The Grosy

2
By definition, the Grosy Award goes to the player with the most cajones. In general, the nominees for this award are players who aren't afraid to play through injury and leave it all on the field. The award's namesake Josh Gros was famous for his work rate, and his career with DC United has seemingly ended way too soon, thanks to the numerous concussions he'd received throughout his time here. DCU @ Marathon: Starting lineups

4

The bad news is that Santino Quaranta will not be dressing tonight. The 23-year old suffered some pretty deep bruises on his ankle and shin Saturday night in LA and will be held out this evening. Bummer.

The good news is that the guys are all feeling pretty positive and will be coming out in a slightly more defensive-oriented posture tonight, running at type of 4-4-1-1.

Reserves Pump TFC 6-0 Sunday

2
Sorry for the delayed post, here's the release about the match. On the Marinelli goal, I've seen elsewhere that Souter scored, but the refs said the initial fumble by Edwards went over the line and Souter pushed it in afterward. Enjoy the rest of the rundown.

Wizards Cruise in Friendly

4
The Wizards played a friendly today at their Swope Park training complex against the U-23 Arkansas Wizards. Hillcrest Road has a more indepth write up on the game. The Wizards, though, had no problem taking out their Arkansas counterparts, as they beat them 13-0. All healthy Wizards players got into the game and most played a half. Click to continue reading...

2 Week MLS Recap

0
Being busy here at Tech I haven't had an opportunity to recap on the MLS matches I caught. However, here is what I have seen since the last time i posted.

DC United 1-2 San Jose Earthquakes
The only match I got to see two weeks ago was DC United travel to the west coast to take on the Quakes of San Jose. Click to continue reading...

I guess the better team doesn't always win

1
A tie at home against a lesser Western Conference opponent certainly should feel like a loss. Somehow for me though, this one doesn't. Maybe it's because we outplayed Dallas, to the point where I think we really deserved the win. This felt like it should have ended at 2-1. Oh well. I guess we'll just have to steal back those extra two points when we play them again on the road in two weeks. Click to continue reading...

Canberra United. It feels good, doesn't it, to have a team in Canberra finally.

Gameday: Galaxy Vs. Real Salt Lake

0

Today the Galaxy takes on Real Salt Lake at the Home Depot Center at 7:30 PDT. You can follow the action via the Direct Kick package or on MLSLive.tv.

After last week's much improved performance I should be looking forward to this game. It's at home, it's again a team that can't buy a point on the road, and they happen to be conference rivals.

Super Soccer Saturday

0
Despite the scribblings of MLS Asst. Commissioner Ivan Gadzidis, tonight's scheduled MLS matches are a complete fiasco.

However, it'll be a great night for sports bar viewing if you can convince the local barkeep to keep two sets on soccer. I'll be at FATS in NYC on W. 33rd Street for the US-Cuba and Fire-Red Bulls matches. Click to continue reading...

Champions again!

1
In a season that's had its fair share of ups and downs, we've finally got something to show for it! Maybe a title in the US Open Cup wasn't necessarily the goal for this season, but it's certainly an accomplishment the team should be proud of, and most importantly, its great that United has fought its way back into the international picture. Update on Kandji non-transfer

Leave it to an online source to figure out what's going on, or, in this case, shed more confusion on the situation.

Canberra A-League 2010? We're getting closer.

3
Three Cities left for two slots:
That's how I read it.

SMH's Mike Cockerill is rerporting today that Townsville and Gold Goast will officially get the nod for 2009 on Thursday. But more interesting to me is the comments from FFA Chief Ben Buckley on the other two places froo 2010.

With consortiums from Canberra and Wollongong, and two competing bids from Melbourne, also pressing to join the league, there is little doubt the A-League will expand further to become a 12-team competition by 2010.

Reserves Top UMKC

1
The Wizards reserve players topped UMKC easily this morning out at the Swope Park training center, 8-1. The game was as close as it was, as the reserves dominated the performance for long stretches of the game. Here's how the reserves started out:
Kronberg
Myers - McMahen - Wahl - Watson
Marinelli - Souter - Morsink - Espinoza
Pore - Trujillo

The scoring started early, as in the 9th minute, Kevin Souter overlapped Carlos Marinelli, who backhealed the ball as he went by. Click to continue reading...

Reserves Top Creighton

1
Not much to say about this one, Hillcrest Road has a small write up, including the starting lineup for the reserves. Creighton's website has a little bit more, including the time of the Wizards lone goal, in the 86th minute by Ivan Trujillo from Creighton alum, Michael Kraus. Stealing an ugly one

I remember writing before the season started that we would probably have to win a lot of games 1-0 this year. Well it took five months and a goalkeeper change to finally do it.

FFA: Canberra bid impresses but fans hold the key

The Ivan Slavich led Canberra A-League has impressed the FFA when the bid team and FFA met yesterday. FFA CEO Ben Buckley was impressed with the speed and quality of the Canberra bid's progress. We're clearly in with a chance.

The need to show a fanbase is clearly urgent. Getting 5000 Foundation Memberships is the challenge for everyone who has signed up, everyone who has ever wanted a team, everyone who loves the game, professional sport and the City and Region. Click to continue reading...
