…and then it got pissy

Earlier today, Dale Mitchell responded to Jim Brennan and, well, it looks like we've got us a good ol' fashioned tit for tat going on in Canadian soccer. When asked if he would ever call Brennan again, Mitchell responded with an emphatic "no". Mitchell said Brennan had turned down the call-ups in the last 18 months [. Click to continue reading...

Photo of the Day: DC United's Honduran Locker Room

How qaunt. It reminds me of the waiting room at the oil change place except it lacks a stack 18 month-old Time & SI magazines. They sure know how to treat thier guests in Honduras, don't they?

Hopefully D.C. United will rise above the less-than-lux treatment and provide MLS with at least one win in CONCACAF Champions League. Click to continue reading...

A listless Red Bulls squad took it on the chin last night, 3-1 at league-leading Columbus.  Even playing with playmaker Guillermo Barros Schellotto, the Crew were too quick, too skilled, and too composed for New York.  Other than a beauty of a free kick goal from Angel, the Red Bulls just weren't connecting on offense. Champions League game #1: DCU 0 - Saprissa 2

2

Not quite the way the team was hoping to begin the tournament, to say the least. The red card immediately following Saprissa's first goal didn't exactly put United in a good position. The team will now look towards Saturday's game in LA before heading to Honduras to face CD Marathon in its second Champions League match.

Jamaica sack Simoes after World Cup qualifying defeats

1
Jamaica have sacked their national technical director René Simoes following bleak results in the CONCACAF Third Round in a bid to qualify for the prestigious World Cup finals in 2010. Defeats to Mexico and Honduras during the past week condemned Jamaica to the bottom place in Group 2, leaving the Reggae Boyz with only minimal chance of advancing to the final qualification stage. Blanco tribute

I spent quite a bit of time last night, searching the web for relevant information on Cuauhtemoc Blanco. I fell asleep mid-story and woke up early this morning to finish it, early as in before 5.

So read it!

It's a bit of a tribute to Cuauhtemoc Blanco for SI.com.

Anti-climactic

2
So the United States, Mexico and Costa Rica are all on nine points after three qualifiers apiece. Each nation is pretty much through to the Hexagonal, though I haven't done the math. Maybe they are in for sure, don't know.

And while it's a great accomplishment for each nation to be 3-0 at this point, it's not exactly surprising. Click to continue reading...

CONCACAF State of Play

Mexico is reasserting itself as the dominant CONCACAF power. Last night's 2-1 win over Canada in Chiapas saw Mexico once again mix the old and the new as far as player selection.
