Serie A Match Day 13 Schedule

0
The main event on Saturday will be derby d'Italia between Inter Milan and visitors Juventus. Sunday's center stage should be highflying Lazio against a rejuventated Genoa, (thank you very much Mr. Milito) both losers match day twelve to Roma and Juventus respectively. Lazio vs. Genoa might just be chock'ful-of goals with the South American strikers Diego Milito (Genoa),  Mauro Zarate (Lazio) as well as [. Click to continue reading...

Serie A Weekend Round-up: Giornata 12 (plus Serie B and other news)

2

Roma, languishing in the relegation zone before the derby, took on Lazio, who are flying high in the upper echelons of the table. Roma needed a victory over their rivals to kick-start their season and boost morale, while Lazio were looking to confirm themselves as a side to be reckoned with this season.

Juventus 4-1 Genoa: Bianconeri On Top of the Serie A Mountain Again (Serie A Matchday 12)

2
915 days, aka two years and a half since May 14, 2006: that's how long Juventus had to wait to breathe top-ranking air in the Serie A again. Granted, it's an ex-aequo lead for now, and too bad if those sharing 1st place with the Bianconeri are eternal rivals Inter Milan (set to clash at [...] Click to continue reading...

Juventus-Genoa and Coppa Italia round-up

0

Because of the Italian National Rugby Team playing a game at the Stadio Olimpico in Torino on Sunday, Juventus-Genoa had to be played today. Juventus have been playing well as of late and have been led by the inspirational play of Alessandro Del Piero. Genoa have proved a tricky opponent this season and have seemed almost unbeatable at home.

Serie A Weekend Round-up: Giornata 11

3

Can anyone tell me what type of performance enhancing drug Alessandro Del Piero is taking right now? (Juventus fans don't jump on my back, that was my attempt at humor). Another inch perfect free kick, and on his 34th birthday to boot. Serie A results after "il salto" (the jump).

Bologna-Roma 1-1

Scorers: 68´ Totti (Rom); 92´ aut.

Prospects and Parity Ahead for 2010 Champions League

0
As intriguing as the current edition of the Champions League may be, there's a chance the 2009-2010 tournament could be one of the strangest, parity-rich events in football history. Seems someone has taken the snowglobe that is European football, given it a good shake and the flakes aren't landing where people expect. Click to continue reading...

Daily Calcio News and Notes - 11/4/08

1

Here's what I found interesting after reading various calcio news sites today:

-First, we have another managerial change in Serie A. Chievo haven't won since the first week of the season and manager Beppe Iachini has been sacked. Taking his place will be Domenico Di Carlo, who was in charge of Parma until March of last season.

Serie A Weekend Round-up: Giornata 10

0

Wow can you believe we're already at Giornata 10? I feel like Serie A was just starting just yesterday. The highlight of the weekend was undoubtedly Milan-Napoli. Napoli have been the surprise of the campaign so far, led by young starlets Ezequiel Lavezzi, Marek Hamsik, and Fabiano Santacroce, and playing excellent, attractive football.

I'd like to extend a warm welcome to the new Bologna and Siena blogs here at the Italy Offside. Every Serie A club now has it's own blog here at the Offside, and that's really great! Serie A Weekend Round-up: Giornata 6 (Plus Serie B + National Team Call-ups!)

0

At the end of the 6th Giornata we still saw surprises. Inter is top of the table, but they share a place with Lazio and Udinese, two squads who have been impressing in this start of the season. Both clubs are putting in good performances and don't look like calming down any time soon. Inter beat Bologna (with a splendid goal from Ibrahimovic), while Lazio needed a late equalizer from Simone Inzaghi (his first goal in Serie A in 4 years) to draw with Lecce.

Olympiacos 2-0 AEK

1
Olympiacos beat an offensively weak AEK yesterday in the second main Athens Derby of the season. This was the first week in the Superleague where AEK did not gain a point (AEK had two draws and two wins up to this point). Fortunately for AEK, its still early in the season, and there is still time [.. Click to continue reading...

Serie A Weekend Round-up: Giornata 5

1

When looking at the schedule of the 5th Giornata, all eyes had to be on Milan-Inter. The Derby was important not only for fans of those teams but for fans of other teams, as everyone had to hope Inter were stopped. And they were stopped, as the Rossoneri prevailed with a thunderous header from Ronaldinho, who scored his first goal in a Milan jersey.

Serie A Quick Midweek Round-up: Giornata 4

3

For some reason whenever Serie A plays during the week I always feel like it isn't the same. I love the tradition of Serie A Sundays and Serie A on Wednesday just feels strange. But it's still Serie A, so I could care less because I love calcio. Giornata 4 was another great round of calcio: Inter took sole lead of the Serie A table after getting a result vs a tough Lecce side thanks to Julio Cruz, Juventus drew Catania at home and wasted many chances to get all 3 points, Milan keeps bouncing back after a win in Reggio Calabria, Roma continues to struggle after losing away to Genoa, and Fiorentina were outclassed by Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.

OUCH ROMA, what are you doing?  Falling behind to Genoa in the 4th minute the Giallorossi battled back on a beautiful goal from Daniele De Rossi only to be shattered by Diego Milito with two second half goals.  Mr. Milito is certainly making an impact in the early going of this season isn't he. Serie A Weekend Round-up: Giornata 3

1

The third giornata of Serie A had less drama and surprises then the last two weeks, but it was interesting and exciting nonetheless. All the big teams won (including Milan for the first time): Inter swept aside Torino, Juventus won a tricky away game vs. Cagliari, Roma ended their "crisis" by soundly defeating Reggina 3-0, Milan finally won with a 4-1 victory over Lazio, and Fiorentina keep chugging along (with Gila scoring goals) with a win vs.
