A 2-2 draw with Real Madrid saw Liverpool's U18 side restored some pride after the chastening 3-0 defeat at the hands of Kashima Reysol yet they will be left pondering about what might have been after throwing away a 2-0 lead.

Having scored at will in their pre-season friendlies, there were high hopes for Liverpool's U18 side as they took off for the Villareal International Tournament. There is, however, a major difference between playing against lower league sides and that of facing top teams from abroad, as the 3-0 defeat in their opening game testifies. Socceroos: Brisbane gets the opener

1
Wednesday 15 October.

There has been a lot of argy bargy about the final game against Japan in June 2009 - who will get it Sydney or Melbourne. But this opener against Qatar is actually the critical game of the series. The Socceroos must win. Nothing else will do.

Their wins in the last round against Qatar allowed them to progress. Click to continue reading...

Toronto FC 1 - Montreal Impact 1 -- The Voyaguers Cup and History in the Making

4
First, an apology with not getting this out sooner; I have a great final week lined up to cap off A More Splendid Life's series on the history of soccer in Toronto. Today focuses on the historic Canadian Championship final game between Toronto FC and the Montreal Impact, and as readers of this series will know, it was a long time in the making. And the summer drags on

1
Yawn. I think the most exciting soccer-related thing I've come across recently was the head wound I picked up at my game on Monday. Seriously, y'all.

Anyway, I figured it was time for another periodic update from the Great White North...

Toronto FC's extended streak of mediocrity continues, as they drew 1-1 with the Montreal Impact yesterday in the Nutrilite Canadian Championship (god, what a stupid name). Click to continue reading...

So the schedule for the new season is out ...

Looks like Unai Emery's boys will have a tough go at it near the end of the season, when many of Spain's top clubs will be meeting Los Che for the right to carry the La Liga Championship in their back pocket.

This being the last season at the current Mestalla, the final game of the season takes on more meaning, against Athletic Bilbao the weekend of May 31st.

Guzan tribute: Top Five Chivas USA moments

1
Brad Guzan was a fixture at Chivas USA since the club began play in 2005. In many ways, I was lucky enough to have covered Guzan since then.

Watchig Guzan go from a kid right out of college to a seasoned veteran ready for the English Premiership has really been a treat and got me to thinking about Guzan's MLS career. Click to continue reading...

Final Result: Chivas USA-Galaxy

0

The game, played in front of a noisy, involved crowd, ended 1-1, a fair result on the night.

The Galaxy equalized after 72 minutes, Edson Buddle latching onto a Pete Vagenas through ball and scoring from an acute angle from about seven yards out for his 11th goal in nine games.

Somehow Chivas USA Coach Preki managed to get himself sent off in the aftermath, apparently for something he said to one of the officials.

EURO 2008 - Goodnight Vienna

2
With the final game of EURO 2008 now over, it is time to breathe in the Alpine air and take stock.

Overall, it has been one of the better tournaments of recent years. The football has for the most part been attacking and open, an improvement on Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup and broadly as exciting as Euro 2000, although the final's denouement will colour the final analysis. Xavi Named Best Player of Euro 2008

1
Uefa have named Barcelona and Spain playmaker Xavi as the best player of Euro 2008.

The midfielder has been outstanding in his team's tournament triumph. I have previously called Xavi the best midfielder in the world. His display in Euro 2008 reinforced my opinion. Of course he was the leading passer in the whole tournament, as he is in every tournament in which he participates. Click to continue reading...

Meager consolation for Azzurri fans, but the Euro 2008 final will indeed be represented by Italy... somehow.
