Socceroos don't need Craig Moore!

0
Every journo in the country wants Craig Moore back in the Socceroos.

Every player says we need Moore. We don't, and I don't want him nor his thuggish style.

Craig Moore has played and achieved great things for Rangers and the Socceroos. But he came back to Australia younger than many. Click to continue reading...

Back in the Playoff Race

0
With some help, the Wizards pushed themselves back into the playoff race with a 2-0 win over Toronto FC last night. Their result along with DC United's loss to LA put KC 1 point back of the final playoff spot. As for the Wizards result, we saw the same lineup that the Wizards put out in their 2-0 win over LA last week. Click to continue reading...

Rafa Benitez: Don't Get Carried Away By Liverpool Win Over Manchester United

0
Rafa Benitez refused to get carried away with his first League win over Manchester United.

Ryan Babel stepped off the bench to fire the winner with 13 minutes remaining after Liverpool had come from behind having conceded after just three minutes.

But after Wes Brown put through his own goal in the 27th minute there was only one team that looked likely to take all three points. Click to continue reading...

Yet more injury woe for poor old Everton!

0
Everton have had a truly crapulous summer. Gazumped in pretty much all of their transfer targets, they hadn't signed a single new player up until the final week of the transfer window. Now comes the news that one of the Toffees signings has knackered his elbow. Toffeeweb - who reported that ... Click to continue reading...

England 4-1 Croatia

0
So, I'm expecting Capello to be knighted before the week is out. The English sure love their revenge.

If it's too good to be true, chances are it is.

I'm hoping and praying the English media won't get carried away with themselves, but I know without even looking that they will. I actually almost feel bad for Theo Walcott; scoring a hat-trick in Croatia in an amazing feat, but the hype he'll get and pressure he'll be under are going to be absurd. Gustavo Cabrera must go

7
If ever there was an underhanded pitch for FIFA to hit out of the park, the vicious Gustavo Cabrera elbow to the head of Eddie Lewis has got to be it.

In last night's World Cup qualifier, the Guatemalan midfielder took a bead on Eddie Lewis and actually changed his run to time the collision as opposed to run on to the ball. Click to continue reading...

Innocent Elbow Leads To Defensive Questions

1

It was bad enough that I found Gabriel Cichero's elbow as innocent as a babies coo, but even the league thinks it was bad - bad enough, actually, to suspend our new stud centerback for not one, but two league games.

To quote a legendary duck,"Ah Phooey!" How that elbow deserves two games is beyond me.

USA beats Guatemala (a closer look)

The U.S. men's national team defeated Guatemala on Wednesday night, 1-0, in the opening match of the World Cup Qualifying group stage. It wasn't pretty. In fact, it was downright ugly for the Americans for the first 60 minutes of the match.

U.S. survives for three points v. Guatemala

I was able to catch the game at work, and got some coworkers into it. Here are some thoughts:
  • Had to watch baseball during the first 8 minutes of action. Lame. Also I never got to see the lineups. Double lame.
  • Not as lame as the first half. Goodness that was boring.
  • Why were there MLS games tonight?

Mutu can't catch a break

1
But he can catch a dislocation.

The Romanian season just got worse. Not only does he have to pay back Chelsea millions of dollars, but he just dislocated his elbow in training with the national team and will be out of action for a while.

Probably a couple weeks.

They might as well call it Mutu's Law. Click to continue reading...

Pierre Wome Is A Bad, Bad Boy

0
Cologne defender/epic journeyman Pierre Wome is about to be in some really big trouble. At the end of this weekend's game against Wolfsburg, Pierre threw what looks to have been a quite intentional elbow at Ashkan Dejagah (4:08 mark above) that is now under investigation by those who take care of these matters in the [. Danny Dichio "okay" after being elbowed

2

Toronto FC forward Danny Dichio looked clear-headed and alert as he walked out of Giants Stadium following TFC's 2-0 loss to the Red Bulls. The big English striker left the match after just playing two minutes when Red Bulls defender Gabriel Cichero caught Dichio with an elbow to the face.

Chivas USA Midfielder Jesse Marsch Out Up to Eight Weeks With Broken Jaw

1

Veteran Chivas USA midfielder Jesse Marsch, a team leader and defensive stalwart, is out for six to eight weeks with a fractured jaw suffered in Thursday's game against the Galaxy, the team confirmed today.

He joins an ever-growing injury list at the club that has hampered its effort to match last season's performance when Chivas USA was Western Conference champion.

Broken Jaw Sidelines Chivas' Marsch

2
Chivas USA midfielder Jesse Marsch is expected to miss 6-8 weeks of action after suffering a broken jaw midway through the second half of Chivas' 2-2 tie against the Los Angeles Galaxy on Thursday night. Surprisingly, no foul was called on the play by referee Alex Prus.

Marsch out

1
The injury list for Chivas USA grows longer as Jesse Marsch was ruled out 6-8 weeks with a fractured jaw.

Others such as Claudio Suarez and Jonathan Bornstein may be ready by next week's match against San Jose, but Marsch won't be one of them. In fact, the 6-8 week range puts him as possibly returning by late September, best-case scenario. Click to continue reading...

A Look-See Around the Corner

So, tomorrow the ruckus begins, and in the spirit of starting afresh, here's a quick breakdown of what to look forward to at A More Splendid Life over the 2008-2009 European football season. You can have some, but only if you're good. Footie Fiction To further elbow my way to the vague middle of the football blog queue, AMSL will try something different by offering a fictionalized summary of Click to continue reading...

Crazy night

3
It was a crazy night at Home Depot Center. Between an early goal, a rally, en elbow and subsequent broken jaw and a stoppage-time equalizer, the game had a little of everything.

Of course, the on-the-field action wasn't the only thing that made the night a crazy one.

First, celebrity chef Ingrid Hoffmann was there. Click to continue reading...

Preki on the Clasico

1
Preki talks about the game. He was about as upbeat as you can be after that effort, but it was obviously tempered by the late Galaxy goal as well as Sean Franklin's costly elbow that may have knocked Jesse Marsch out for quite some time.

After the presser, Preki was met in the tunnel by a former LA Laker. Click to continue reading...

U.S. v. Nigeria redux

5
I did stay up to watch this one the other day. The thoughts are coming late 'cause I've been working like crazy recently.

Anyways, I came upset that Adu and Bradley has disqualified themselves from the match.

That anger went exponential when freakin' Orozco -- who I never want to see again -- throws a stupid elbow like a petulant child to get ejected. Click to continue reading...

USA men tumble out of Olympic Tournament

8

The task was already going to be tough, but when U.S. Olympic defender Michael Orozco drew a red card just four minutes into the U.S. team's crucial Olympic match against Nigeria, the job turned into trying to swim in a shark tank with your foot cut off.

US Men’s Olympic Flame Extinguished By Nigeria

1
AAAGGGHHHH!

Sorry but I had to get that out of the way. Basically that is my reaction after watching the US Men's team fall to Nigeria by a razor thin 2-1 margin; but as you know in football, the margin doesn't matter – only the result.

With this morning's result – the US Men become spectators in the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, but all is not lost with this performance. Click to continue reading...
